Title: Where do I get raw foods from in Melbourne Vic1 Post by: ladyvisser on Thursday 11 January, 2007 Hello everyone,
I'm an official newby to eating raw foods, and while shopping for raw food items apart from organic fruit and vegetables, everything else I found was only organic and not raw. I've been to a few places now, and it seems like the only places I can get these other things from is either over the net (which is a bit too expensive for me) or from America (mmm even worse) does anyone know of a good store I could go to in Melbourne, to find these things?? Thanks love Emma Title: Re: Where do I get raw foods from in Melbourne Vic1 Post by: RawGreenGoddess on Thursday 11 January, 2007 heyEmma, when we stayed in Melbourne,i googled organics, and went to the big Macro organic supermarket, produce was excellent..but i am sure there are some melbournians that can tell you about little organic shops which are less expensive and have excellent produce too..good luck..

There's a thread here somewhere where someone mentioned the organics restaurant at the Victoria Markets (I hope I'm remembering right) has raw food options. If you're looking for a place to go out that would be it! We don't have a wholesaler in Melbourne yet... sorry! If you have a store you love to shop at suggest they contact us for a wholesale list. Janita and Harley can tell you how much they like having a local source! Cheers, Sheryl PS There's a great organic market north of the city that has a whole garden market thing happening... have you been there? Title: Re: Where do I get raw foods from in Melbourne Vic1 Post by: snoopy on Thursday 11 January, 2007 Hey Emma,
Yay! Another Raw foodie in Melbourne... cool! Like you I'm a newbie (2months) and have slowly been finding my way to the organic sources near me (St Kilda) so I can vouch for the following as places that seem to at least understand the raw thing... even if they don't yet stock a zillion raw products... maybe if we keep talking to them about it they will eventually realise there's sufficient demand.... okay so here are my fav's so far: Macro - Armadale, Richmond and Glen Waverly .... all fantastic organic supermarkets that do stock some additional raw products they really helpful if you ask. Passion Foods - Which is a shop near the South Melbourne Market (smaller version of Macro. Seems to have more gourmet type food and its pretty expensive but the staff there were also very helpful) South Melbourne Market has a wonderful organic stall on the street side (york St from Memory... best check that info though) Sheryl ... great idea. I'm going to take your cards into these places next time I go... would be wonderful to have access to more raw products locally. snoops Title: Re: Where do I get raw foods from in Melbourne Vic1 Post by: ladyvisser on Thursday 11 January, 2007 Thanks, guys thats a start, I have been to macro before, and did buy a few things, It would be lovely to have a 100% raw shop somewhere, save me wondering around for three hours.
Sheryl I haven't heard of the market your talking about, but I'm definetley going to have a search for it. By the way I also found that you can't get unpasturised milk or cheese in Australia as it's illegal to sell it, is this true? Thanks for your help love emma Title: Re: Where do I get raw foods from in Melbourne Vic1 Post by: RawNaturopathJen on Friday 12 January, 2007 We are slowing creating the dream of a totally raw shop here in Perth!

Title: Re: Where do I get raw foods from in Melbourne Vic1 Post by: Paulo on Sunday 14 January, 2007 Raw fruits and veg in Melbourne???
Where do you live??? There's a whole lot places. If you want the cheapest, don't go anywhere that has branding!!! The vic market is the best and cheapest... South melbourne market is ok... a bit more expensive though. I like joes organics in heidleberg. Joe is really nice too! he is a character, and if you live out that way you should support him, because he really does offer a whole lot for the raw/vegan/vego organic society in melbourne. He will throw you some freebies most of the time too! If you are Raw...I wouldnt be buying or looking for things in packets. The only packaged raw foods are on this website. They rest has more than likely been processed, cooked, steamed, frozen, pasteurised, or fumigated to get in onto the shelf. Stay away. Fresh is best. Or even better, make it yourself. Piers and Sheryl sell soem great products... and are at fair prices. It will be easier for you to be a healthy raw foodist too! Eating fresh that is. Discovering what is not RAW, is one of the hardest transitions when going raw. Yep, eat a mango, or a bannana truly is the alternative. And when your body catches up to where your mind thinks it is, it becomes one of the best things you have ever done. The cleansing of your body from cooked foods to raw in intense. It takes around 6 months for caffeine and other toxins to start coming out... Imagine how your body would feel, when you continue along the raw path for longer eating even more fresher foods than before. It won't happen overnight, but it will happen!!! Keep it green is the key. Start your day with a green smoothie. a handful of spinach, or two, some bannanas, or some other sweet fruit (mango, peaches, necatrines, cherries), add some water, blend and drink!!! Thats your first meal... it can also be a snack for whenever you feel like a snack, if you have a craving or hankering for any cooked foods. Cravings are your bodies way of saying 'give me some calories'. Hunger cravings are your bodies way of saying 'I am thirsty'. So, if thats the case, have a glass of water, or piece of fruit, or a green smoothie. A green smoothie will give you the energy you need, the nutrients and minerals your require. Its easy too. My favourite snack foods are FRESH dates, Tamarinds, banannas, carrot and celery chips, nectarines, and did I mention bananas??? The day I discovered dates, I wondered why and where they had been all my life? Who was hiding this spectacularly sweet fruit from me??? I should have discovered them much earlier than the age of 24!!! I love to shove a few raw cacao nibs in them!!! hows that for a snack??? Stay away from dried fruits like figs, dried apricots and the like. Stay away from nuts and seeds. These are sometimes foods, and not foods to eat when you get a craving. They are fats. And not the calories your body truly desires. Dont make the mistake of eating a dry full of fat raw foods diet. Dont eat too much avocado, nuts, or olives. You may think they are filling you up, but they aren't. What you body really wants is something else altogether. Your mind is playing tricks you!!! Or is it?? Actually my theory is that SOCIETY IS PLAYING TRICKS ON YOU! If you can, grow your own, even start sprouting- sprouting is cool. Sprouts are fun, they are super good for you. And taste so much better if you grow them yourself... its not hard. Get yourself a sprouter jar from MACRO or Passionfoods and get sprouting. Well, goodluck on your raw journey. Oh by the way... Yes, I confirmed it... If you go to INVITA next to the Organic section at the VIc Market, they will make you a RAW cake, if you special order, they will make you a RAW lasagne!!! Hows that!!! I havent tried it yet, but if you would all like to meet and have a lasagne one day, we could all be the judge of that!!!!!!!! xxxxxpaul p.s. I am working on creating some RAW products for everyone. I am also working on a RAW cafe for everyone too. I know some of the Raw recipes can be quite time consuming and not everyone has the time or patience to make them... I am working to make it easy for everyone to be RAW!!! ok... xxpaul |
