Title: What's your favourite thing to make chips with? For me... SPINACH! Post by: Sheryl on Saturday 05 July, 2008 I've been making dipping chips with spinach lately! Yep! Spinach!
Blended spinach with just the littlest amount of spinach, lemon juice and salt. All blended together (it's the spinach wrap recipe from Cafe Gratitude dehydrated until really crispy). That book is my FAVOURITE raw recipe book right now. It's so good! Every single recipe I've tried from it has been magic. Other favourites for chips are kale and zucchini. Anyone else have some new favourites? Title: Re: What's your favourite thing to make chips with? For me... SPINACH! Post by: Karenlovesraw on Saturday 05 July, 2008 Hi Sheryl... :)
they sound great but my favourite are zucchini chips and sweet potato chips.. they are great with salsa and guacamole! Much better than Nacho's. Oh and a dollop of nut cheese in top is good if I have any made at the time! xx Title: Re: What's your favourite thing to make chips with? For me... SPINACH! Post by: melb on Monday 14 July, 2008 The Cafe Gratitude cookbook is so good! Nothing has failed to turn out beautifully, though some of the deserts are very cocnut oil oily!
And available from the Raw Pleasure shop I am Grateful, Cafe Gratitude book (http://www.raw-pleasure.com.au/component/page,shop.product_details/flypage,shop.flypage/product_id,740/category_id,58/manufacturer_id,0/option,com_virtuemart/Itemid,49/) if the shopping cart stays as is :) Title: Re: What's your favourite thing to make chips with? For me... SPINACH! Post by: RawAussieMum on Thursday 17 July, 2008 Sheryl, Karenlovesraw - can I ask whether you need to do anything to the zucchini or sweet potato before you dehydrate them. I tried the sweet potato once and they came out really tough and hard to chew - did i just dehydrate them for too long?

Sweet Potato and potato both always seem to come out a little hard and chewy. You don't really get that crispy feel of cooked potato chips. A little coconut oil seems to help before dehydrating though to increase the crispness factor. It's not that you're dehydrating too much, in fact fully dehydrating them makes them less chewy. What does really give that same light texture though is zucchini chips. Just slice them (not too thin or they practically disappear), toss with a dressing (I do a little bit of coconut oil, lemon juice and some spices) and dehydrate. They are delicious. I've even used cucumber too when I head heaps extra I needed to use and it worked well. Enjoy! Sheryl Title: Re: What's your favourite thing to make chips with? For me... SPINACH! Post by: Karenlovesraw on Saturday 16 August, 2008 oh Raw Aussie Mum.. to ge the sweet potato chips nice and crunch you have to slice them really thin, I do mine with the thinest setting on the v-slicer and as Sheryl said a little coconut oil really help too. just slice them all into a bowl and toss with coco oil and flavour if you want such as spices, herbs and/or sea salt. then spread individually, you don't want them overlapping.
Have fun they are delicious! karen |
