Title: Immunization Post by: simon on Friday 29 August, 2008 I heard the tail end of a story on the radio the other day about a couple who had won a court case again having there baby compulsory vaccinated. Did anyone come across the same story ?
Title: Re: Immunization Post by: niqi on Friday 29 August, 2008 Hi - I didn't catch the report, but I don't think it is actually compulsory to immunize your child in Australia. (or at least in Victoria. I don't know about other states)
It's a bit difficult to go through school bureaucracy without an immunization certificate, but it's not legally compulsory. Probably not a help to you, but food for thought! Cheers, Niqi Title: Re: Immunization Post by: jackson on Friday 29 August, 2008 Vaccinations aren't compulsory anywhere in Australia. There are forms called 'conscientious objection' forms that can be filled out and signed by a GP.
P.S. Didn't hear anything about the story you are referring to Simon. I am fairly sure that vaccinations are compulsory for school attendance in USA (not sure if everywhere, or just certain states), so maybe the story came from there? Title: Re: Immunization Post by: Organic_Girl on Saturday 30 August, 2008 i'm guessing you're referring to the couple in sydney i think...hospital was trying to enforce vaxxing there newborn bub against hep B because the mum is a caririer for the disease. they're educated conscientious objectors who had to go on the run and hide from the authorities to keep the baby safe from being jabbed until it was settled in court. i donated money to the fund that the AVN set up to help them. The dad actually is on the committee or works for the AVN. bloody terrible what they had to go through...couldn't imagine having to go into hiding after giving birth. so glad they won the case or it would just open the flood gates for compulsory vaxxing here in oz...i mean it already exists with defence force staff, healthcare workers and who knows else...get jabbed or get fired!

Mantoux (tuberculosis) testing is compulsory, but you can fill out forms for vaccinations themselves. Its not widely publicised though, put it that way. I only found out working in an office doing rosters for an agency when one of the nurses didnt supply the immunisation records and i was told to send one of those forms to say that their aware of the risks. When i was at uni studying though, i was told we had to have vaccinations agains hep a and b to go on placement. But i think its still not really compulsory, am pretty sure looking back knowing what i know now i could have voiced objections and filled out the form. |
