Title: Evening with Don tolman.
Post by: Bobbi on Friday 29 August, 2008
Wasn't sure where to put this thread. Don Tolman (The Indiana Jones of Wholefoods) is doing evening seminars in capitol cities of Australia in September. He is into pure plant foods and high raw. Has some very interesting ideas. You can register for free tickets by going to Fortune Events. You just put VIPGUEST in the privelege code field. His seminars are usually pretty expensive, so I'm looking forward to checking him out for free!!! Hope someone finds this info useful.

No worries, Simon. I only found him searching around on You Tube. There are bits of past seminars, and an 8 part interview on there. Also found some good David Wolfe bits.

I love Don Tolman. I went to one of his seminars in May last year and learned loads. I'd love to go again.

hiya Jenergy, do you think you will go to this one in Brisbane?  I am registered and wondering who else is going to the Brizzbane talk.  If others are going from the Northern Rivers Region it may be wise to car pool.

mmmm... probably not. Monday nights are not usually that great for us. Interesting that they are not doing Gold Coast events anymore...

I don't mean to put a dampener on everyone's enthusiasm about Don Tolman, but I found him really disappointing :-(  I went along to a free night and thought he was an amazing speaker with an incredible way of story-telling and extremely entertaining.  However, on the free night they were selling tickets to a 2 day "Bootcamp for Brains" seminar and my partner and I signed up for $1500 each for the two days - very expensive!

The two days were very, very disappointing.  Don was still very entertaining, but he gave away very little when it came to raw food.  Anyone on this site would already know more than he gave away - but I guess anyone who was a brand newbie to the concept might get something more out of it...  There was also more hype than substance, and I find the whole "guru" thing a bit sad.  I think empowering people with knowledge to make their own informed decisions about health is much more genuine, than setting yourself up as a guru with all the answers - "just pay a fortune and I'll tell you the secrets of the world...."

Maybe I'm a bit cyncial but I paid $1500 and felt like I got not much out of it except a weekend of great entertainment - he is a great storyteller and the concepts he talks about are fantastic - no doubt there - but as for actual nitty gritty stuff you can use - nothing.

Just my opinion though!

I agree, I didn't learn a hell of a lot about food but I learned loads about other things. I loved learning the memory stuff and a lot of the history that he taught. When I was there he said he was being prevented by the FDA/FBI (?.. same thing?) from giving out the recipe. They had him going through court processes trying to prevent it. I wonder if he is allowed to give it out now. Could be interesting? I wouldn't mind going to the free night to ask him!

Yeah. It's a bit of a kack!!!  He actually reminds me of the cowboy out of the "Village People". I half expect him to launch into a rendition of YMCA!!!!  Still looking forward to checking him out in person.

Just letting whomever is interested know that I will not be making it to Don Tolman's Brisbane talk tonight.

My car has several kinks that need ironing out.

Broken struts and now excessive over-heating within 5 minutes of driving, despite recent top-ups with oil and water!  Major mechanical repairs needed before any further ventures.

A 20 minute trip home yesterday took me 3 hours +     with stops to allow the motor to cool.

Anyways, what a wonderful situation to propel myself into more cycling, walking and the fluency of being required  for instant decisions for lifts as they arise with friends and whomever.

sounds like your radiator is blocked or perhaps you thermostat is not working but more than likely  your radiator is blocked. How old is your car and what sort is it ?

Hi Simon!

Thanks for your suggestions!

I am usually quite capable mechanically with a sense of ability to diagnose problems and then fix them myself.  I have done this several times.

But recently my bonnet/hood has broken and I am not able to 'lift the lid' without jacking the car up and unbolting a plate, reaching up past the fan and using a long screwdriver and lots of elbow grease, push the metal clasp hook over to the side, so as to release the bonnet's catch.

So a mechanic helped me out on the spur of the moment last week, seeing the car was desparately needing some water, put the car up on the hoist and after some working it and me helping out where I could...we opened it...filled it with oil and water.

I expected the oil and water to last for at least a few weeks.  So this over heating so soon is a new thing.  It could be that the radiator is blocked.

It hisses, belches steam and shudders horrendously and the engine will not stop after I have turned the key to off and removed them...it can take up to 4 minutes for it to shudder to a stop.

Black smoke is starting to pour from its exhaustion pipe too....

Argh the fumes from such a hot motor...headache material...

I had to keep exercising control of my thoughts to bring the car safely home...the sounds and everything else going on with it, could easily stimulate one to fearing of a major 'accident'!

It is going to be some orchestration with the mechanics to fit it in and also for me $

I am glad that it/I made it here and I/it didn't break down on some windy mountain ridge road and require towing.  I read this from many angles too..

I am aware that the car is an outer expression of an inner process.  AnyOne and the Many are welcome to offer feelings and insights if feeling pulsed to!

love and appreciation,

~missy b

You do look hot covered in grease Miss B  but that's not going to help you !
It is hard to say without seeing  the car , i would be getting rid of it just get yourself something small and economical to run even if you have to borrow the money. In the long run it will cost less to run a small car and borrow cash than run and old heap.

If it just the radiator then it should be OK but it you have over heated it a few times then the engine might run but it will never be quiet the same again. If it is falling apart then just get something else.

Holden parts are general keep if you have to buy parts that one good thing.

Owning or buying a heap can cost heaps and it's  just a pain in the butt to be fixing this and that all the time it really make life a hassle.

Are you in NSW or QLD?

I will PM my number and you can call if you want any more advise. That's if you want to.

Did anyone else see Don last night in Brisbane. I really enjoyed his presentation; he has a unique way of explaining the "disease" process. I didn't really get any new information, however I feel my understanding of some concepts has deepened. Based on what I saw last night, I may do one of his workshops next year. Anyone else got comments???
Hope you"re all having a Terrific Tuesday!!! :yahh:

Hi Bobbi, thanks for sharing your experience of Don Tolman's lecture.  I'd love to know more!  Please share some more!

hmmm, thank you Simon, I think you are on to something!   Maybe looking 'cool' rather than 'hot' would be the way to help the car to not overheat!

I love this car, it has run very well for me.  It has been maintained in immaculate condition for years...and yes....Holden parts are very easy to come by and they are hardy, durable and long lasting.  I really like Holden Station Wagons.  I have had curvacious EH's, HJ's, HQ's and now this one.  But alas, I digress.

Your suggestions for getting a smaller, more economical car makes sense.   It has overheated several times now in the last few weeks.  The engine may have suffered some damage.  I know blowing a gasket can cost in excess of $1,000 to repair.

If it is the radiator, then 'hopefully' years of keeping the car fueled on flash lube and premium has kept the motor working like new, and smooth enough, to withstand such high temperature pressures, a protection of sorts.

I like station wagons as I find them highly practical for my lifestyle.  Straw bales, fire wood, camping, bamboo tipi poles, rocks....my kar doubles as my TractOR....

The romantic in me likes the idea of a moped or similar motorized bike, rather than a smaller car.  Some kind of clean green hue...

Like my brrrrrrrrooooooooooom!!!  Which reminds me, thanks Janita!  I leant my broom to a Fool once many moons ago...I will see if the Eternal Child is finished with it.

Thank you Simon for the generous offer of giving me further advice if needed.  Are you a mechanic?  I am in NSW.

Sweet Neet, I thought that grease bindy might be perceived as purposely placed - but I'd prefer a mulberry finger print on my forehead any day!  Though ye be right Neet, light joyfilled spontaneity rules the here and now...and who knows what may take one by surprise!

Hello Miss Bliss , Mechanic was my second job after school so yes but other than fixing my own stuff I don't work on car anymore. If the rest of the car is OK then it is probably worth fixing but don't over heat it if you can help it. We use to have to EH Holden's and I learn t to drive in one and I have to agree Holden station wagon are a great car.

Bamboo titi poles?

NSW I am guessing that is a long way from Sydney if you where going to go to Don Tolman?

You should be able get a exchange radiator for less than 200 , I wouldn't buy a second had one but that's up to you.

Simon.

Great!  Thanks for sharing Ivan, that sounds like an encouraging story!

Thank you too for your further advice Simon.  As I can arrange my life to fix it I shall.  Presently I am feeling ok to be more reliant on my own resourcefulness/body power.

I won't let it sit for long though before it is fixed.

(I am not online much at all these days, so please excuse any delayed replies, or very brief replies)
