Any good recipes that have passed the taste and appearance test at school for 13 year old boys in particular, would be REALLY welcome!

Sorry, I didn't read your post thoroughly enough! Fundamentals in Byron Bay or Lismore might have some or be able to tell you about a distributor near you - one call might lead to another good source.

Hi again Jenniem -

You can buy organic sprouting seeds from Macro Wholefoods, Crows Nest in Sydney. If you're near a Macro store in Melbourne, they'd likely have them too. I found organic sprouting seeds in Alstonville (near Lismore, North Coast NSW).

Good luck again!

110  FAQ - Check Here for the most common Answers! / Raw Food FAQ / Re: newbie!!! on: Thursday 21 December, 2006
Hi Jennie,

If you need a raw 'sugar' high, try to make yourself a smoothie with ingredients like banana, dates or raisins (very sweet - I love them!), nuts (for even more energy - almonds are yummy) and any other fruit you can think of. I make this for my resistant 13 year old son and often sneek in some leafy green vegies into it. He does drink it and is actually very energetic and healthy. The green and vegie juices will make you feel good too.

I'm about to order a terrific looking recipe book by Alissa Cohen called 'Living on Raw'. The photos in it are fantastic and look similar to the 'normal' food in most recipe books. And she gives fantastic advice on how to get the most out of being raw - energy tips etc.

Good luck!

Just read 'Cracker question' and it answered my question re. settings.

Thanks Sheryl for the tips re. getting them crunchy!

If I buy the EziDri Snackmaker, which setting would be for the crackers - low, medium or high?

And do you know what the temperatures for those 3 settings are??

Thanks again,

Eve

Just went to the shops to compare dehydrators - on my cracker perfection quest!

The Ezi Dri Snackmaker had three settings, but no temperatures writtten.
The Fowlers Dehydrator had actual degree settings on them.

I'll need to get rid of my Sunbeam (only one temperature and apparently too high for healthy raw), so not sure which one to buy.

And, not sure what temperature setting to make the cracker recipes above, on. Is there a standard cracker dehydrating setting that makes them turn out nice and crunchy?

Thanks,

Eve

Hi there!

I'm getting really hungry reading and writing down all of these great cracker recipes!

What's the technique for getting them crunchy?

Thanks.

114  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Recipes - Meals & Snacks / Does anyone have any recipes using durian? on: Thursday 21 December, 2006
Found out that durian can put on weight - thinking again about my 13 year old son on raw - very very thin already although really energetic and healthy.

Would love some teenage approved raw durian recipes.

Thanks,

Hi Durian,

And I'll show my son how fit and inspiring a role model you are being raw!

He's been raw and lost heaps of weight which he actually didn't need to lose. He was
energetic and really fit (he came 2nd in his year at school for fitness!) but looking really emaciated bone wise. Not just skinny.

I'll definitely look at those websites. It would be terrific to have a raw teenager website for Aussies who need inspiration and a chat forum like this.

Thanks so much for your suggestions.

Hi Marcus,

I go to a fantastic person called Dr Karin Cutter.  She looks at the body right down to a cellular leve. She finds scientifically what's going on and if there's something that is blocking detoxing e.g. mercury, lead etc. And she finds out what vitamins and minerals etc your individual body is lacking. She has a regular column in Wellbeing Magazine called Back to Basics. She's the best in my opinion.

Good luck.

Hi!

Just want to say that I really love this website. I've never been 'hooked' like this on the computer. I really feel like we're all on the same level. I have nice friends but when it comes to "Let's have lunch" or "You must come over for dinner" etc, it becomes really awkward because I know that yet again, I'll have to explain where I'm at foodwise and the same re. my son.

Anyway, thanks for such terrific group support - a great base to fall back on.

Sorry - this doesn't have much to do with the holiday discount except to say that it's a really nice offer Sheryl.

Hi Kerry!

I have a 13 year old son who I'm trying to entice to maintain his raw eating. School lunches are a challenge though. He says he just wants to be 'normal' even though he knows what the results of 'normal' are. I do show him through example the benefits of raw eating.

Sergei Boutenko has written a raw recipes book for teenagers, I've ordered it from Amazon. Looks grt!

Hi again,

Thanks guys for your encouraging words. Maybe I'll just have to purchase a dehydrator with varying strengths of
'heat'. My Sunbeam one is only one heat and doesn't state what level it is.

And, it seems that the thinner the consistency of the cracker, the crispier it might turn out - do you agree?

I noticed Igor's 'Live Flat Bread' in this website's book shop with step by step instructions on making crackers and bread raw style. Has anybody here tried it?
