1  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: Its Not Worth It on: Wednesday 13 December, 2006

What's left to say this has been a terrific thread.
With the help of this forum I've transitioned from almost all cooked, high GI, SAD
to almost all Raw, by definition Low GI, and vegan.

If i'm not 100% that hardly matters and it was the first thing i was told on my raw journal thread.

It's true I couldn't go back to how I used to eat, now i can hear my body complain.

ok, good, we don't have a compost because nothing much gets past the chooks and worm farm

but I haven't reached the stage of bringing food scraps home from the office
3  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Recipes - Drinks / Re: whats your favourite smoothie recipe?? on: Saturday 28 October, 2006
until now I've been wolfing the smoothies down straight away
but today i put a jug in the fridge to cool down

and it seperated into a clear part and a froth on top
the clear juice was delicous
the froth wasn't, I felt bad about throwing it away but did anyway

i think i may only have noticed now as i was reading about a guy who uses a strainer to get rid of blender froth as if it was a bad thing.
Do others even notice it, or do you just shake and mix it up again

first of all don't ask what others like, you'll get some weird answers  evil

see http://www.raw-pleasure.com.au/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,71/topic,1913

start with your favourite fruit, mine is  banana
add a glass or two of water,
JEN suggested blending fruit first to make it smoother and it works
the other suggestion was tougher things first which seemed logical but there you go
add a bland green leaf eg. lettuce
my favourite is bok choy only because I never used to eat it
and a few dates
i prefer a smoothy consistancy rather than too runny

>Whats with the spins on your wrist?

RGG got it,
it's seemingly minor, but my wrist thinned and now it's between sizes of the notches
If go to look at the time, the face is either hanging down or spins to the inside.
I went years and years without a watch now if it's not strappend down it bugs me

>and getting my hands in the soil

hands up who has garden dirt under their fingernails ,me me

I have a dozen chooks, it's a toss up whether they are going to eat the vegies or the bugs
I chased some away but later DW pointed out the bantam was picking between the plants for the bugs.

The chickens make great tractors, put them in a cage and they pick the grass clean and fertilise a new bed

the BMI  equation was wrong it's
( mass in kg / height in m squared )
73 / 1.78 2 = 23 so i'm still almost overweight ;-)

there have been changes
i need to tighten my belt another notch and my watch spins on my wrist which is annoying

raw is full of seeming contratictions,
on the one hand we have to eat enough
on the other we shouldn't eat until we're hungry

it's almost biblical, in that the answer is both obvious, but can mean anything

I don't have any answers but your not the only one thinking like this

I've been raw a month, my weight dropped from 82 > 73 kg
which is BMI of 26 > 21  (height in cm / square root of mass in kg)
In a land of overweight people I didn't feel overweight and didn't expect or care if i lost any
A BMI of 21 is normal now but how far until it isn't, 15?

It took me nearly a month to work them out
now i make them approx as per jen's advise

1/2 blender of one type of green, lettuce, spinach or bok choy
large glass of water, blend
add 2 or 3 bananas, enough so the drink isn't watery, not so many you go broke
i add a couple of dates for extra sweetness

they are banana smoothies that happen to be green

Thanks RP for introducing flax seed crackers to my diet !!

http://www.guardian.co.uk/food/Story/0,,1924088,00.html

For Hibbeln, the changes in our diet in the past century are "a very large uncontrolled experiment that may have contributed to the societal burden of aggression, depression and cardiovascular death". To ask whether we have enough evidence to change diets is to put the question the wrong way round. Whoever said it was safe to change them so radically in the first place?
11  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: Raw Pleasure Seed Exchange Anyone. on: Wednesday 18 October, 2006
Seed saving is a great idea,

It was the main talk at out local organics growers society on the weekend

Joining a similar group may be a better option then re-inventing the wheel
there are about a hundred here, just select your state

I'm looking at buying a couple of fridges

I did an energy audit after my power bill kept climbing
with a gadget that measures appliance usage it came as not surprise that our fridges were the worst offenders

a 3yr fridge/freezer was $20/month
a smaller 15yr fridge/freezer was $30/month
a mid size chest freezer was $20
a large chest freezer was also $20

extra fridges may still be viable, just be aware of the power costs

>behind porn and gambling, raw vegan gets the third most hits on the internet!!

I think this is producer's hyperbole,

http://google.com/trends?q=%22raw+food%22&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all
google trends shows a flat line for 'raw food'  'raw vegan' doesn't register
and that the board here is showing record visitors (300+) is entirely coincidental :-)
14  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Recipes - Drinks / Re: GGS (grape green smoothie) on: Sunday 15 October, 2006
ok, most of my efforts have had strawberries

I just nailed my first dark green gs, had the family with wrinkle inducing winces all round

half a blender of spinach, 3 nanas, 3 dates, 2 cups water
now i'm on my gs way
15  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: Veggie Spiraliser Help on: Sunday 15 October, 2006
I'd like some ideas to please,
I haven't taken it out of it's box, grumpy partner expects we need perfectly round food for it to work

we have an apple corer/peeler/spiraliser which needs near spherical apples to work effectively
then it's great
