Whoops sorry 'neet. I didn't write up what I meant properly. I actually was supposed to write that you should not use products other than natural oils as it strips it away and makes the skin work harder in reclaiming the oil- plus the skin needs oil. The 'i do that twcie a day' was actually meant to refer to putting rosehip oil on the face to keep the skin lubricated.

Sorry about that, yes definetly don't strip away the oil!

Thanks for the tip about hot water though, i read that the hot water gets rid of the oil rosehip oil and opens the pores for the new oil you should apply...I didn't know it would dehydrate. Shall use a flannel instead. Ta!

Thanks raw'green'neet. I've been having large green salads, but i must start the green smoothie process.

Raw Vegan Radio is fantastic! It's really inspiring to hear people tell their own personal journeys and they are having lots of well known raw vegans (shazzie..etc) coming up on the show. David Wolfes interview was really energetic too but I loved the one with the raw runner the most, she was charming and honest.

I see raw pleasure sells Davids new book too...i really want it but it's so much. Sheryl, how much is the book including p&h to Vic?

Thankyou everyone for your helpful answers. I'm back to raw and I am feeling much better again as my body has really adjusted to just eating raw food.

I was listening to raw vegan radio and that also helped me to feel better about the right food choices too. I'm hoping to read a few books that will weed out where you can go wrong.

Thanks for the encorougment and personal insights.

I've had a lot of luck with the bananas since the cyclone...not to be cruel to those who have suffered because of the disaster.

I've found at organic shops or at markets they have bananas at half price because they are ready to eat and ripe now. We are talking perfect bananas....just because they are not green and unripe they become cheap. I've found bananas for $3 dollars a kilo at Queen Vic Market, and $4 a kilo at an organic shop...and this is for organic bananas... not even conventional.
Has anyone had similar experiences? If not ask where you shop if they have any discounted!

I hope avcocados are not too affected....oh I could live on avocado if they weren't so high in fat.

I suffer from a dry skin problem too- it only started when I began to eats heaps of fruit and and has continued through my vegan years. It's also left me with a rash on my cheeks and little bumps...none of it's noticable but I'm quite worried what it is as my hands are dry and horrible now. Sometimes I wonder if it's because I have really high levels of Vitamin A in my system (to the point where I'm slightly yellow or tanned from so many carrots, carrot juice and all other veggies) hmmm. Or perhaps I am deficient in something.

Anyway....I stopped using my lovely vegan cleanser because I realised that harsh chemicals...should not be used. I use rosehip oil on my face after reading about oil cleansing methods and how the stripping oil away from your face makes it produce a larger quantity to reclaim what was lost. I do that twice a day after rinsing my face in hot water. I've also tried a oatmeal, soy milk and almond meal mask which was nice and cammomile to relax my eyes.

I even popped some cammomile teabags in the bath today which made it smell lovely. It looked rather funny though.
82  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Fitness & Health / Re: Do trainers know best? on: Wednesday 26 April, 2006
I don't know if this helps but there is a guy in my class who is 'training' to be a personal trainer and we were having a discussion about food and he mentioned Low and High GI, only he mixed them up and I had to correct him on which was which. I don't know if they get a decent nutritional course unless they've been to uni but who knows? I've read somewhere doctors only get 2.5 hours worth of nutritional training -whether that stat is true or not I have no idea. (if you look at doctors they tend to be overweight and unhealthy themselves). I find vegans on the veganforum.com are critical of doctors because they don't know much about nutrition, so what can be said for a personal trainer then?
83  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Need help regarding a couple of things on: Wednesday 26 April, 2006
Hey everyone, I've have a couple of questions I need help with. Firstly...I jumped of my transitioning raw food track for two days and indulged in 50% raw and 50% cooked. Part of the reason is I've become a little nervous reading up on some articles around the net. I've heard that raw foodists can end up with: grey hair, holes in their teeth etc and even saw an article where it mentioned raw foodists not being able to give an example of someone who has lived long on this diet like a cooked vegan diet. It mentioned that some raw foodists had died since the author (also a raw foodist) had last seen them, seeming to me that he was insinuating to be weary of the diet.

However, reassesing...I don't want to put cooked food into my mouth and plan to go back to full raw foodism tomorrow.

I just feel perplexed because there is so much different information out there that I am not sure which I should be turning to so that I can make sure I can do the best I can for my body on a raw food diet. Also, does anyone have any information about stopping grey hair, holes etc...I have heard this may be to do with lack of protein, or the need for more greens..?

Secondly, does anyone know how to make sure the RDI of protein is achieved without resorting to nuts? I have been overindulging in almonds and it made me nauseous and "uncleansed". I assume you can do this through veggies, but I cannot find info on how much protein comes from individual veggies, and which are the best.

Finally, can anyone recommend a good first book to buy? Because there is so much stuff around I'm getting overwhelmed which is not what I want to be...and also a little panicky because of the differing beliefs about raw food. I just want to take care of myself in the most natural way possible.

Any help is most appreciated!

P.S - I found Kale at the market and got so excited because it's impossible to find anywhere. YAY.

Thankyou everyone here for the lovely welcoming comments and suggestions! I'm still going strong and shall definetly check out the green smoothie section.

I did end up terribly sick today, with my IBS for some reason. Hmm. Oksyoks...I don't think raw sprouted bread is available in Aus...I did end up at a health food shop in the city and they had sprouted bread but it was cooked (we did a thorough investigation).

Miss Manda- thanks for the tips re: IBS. I shall look into the book Sheryl recommended (thanks Sheryl).

Looking forward to posting, asking lots of silly questions and so forth Smiley *she says as she sits eating watermelon...yumyum*

Hey there,

I've been checking out this forum for awhile and thought I would start to post. I'm a 20 year old vegan from Melbourne who has 'attempted' raw food veganism twice for a couple of weeks but never stuck with it.

About a week and a half ago I was sick of all the bad food I was suddenly putting into my mouth (although normally I eat rather well) and decided to juice fast. After 60 odd hours I've since been eating raw (although still drinking non caffeinated tea) and had an entirely fantastic first week. I'm hoping to stick with raw this time and see where it will get me. I'm also hoping it may help with my IBS which was doing well with veganism but has been acting up again.

The last few days have been the hardest as I've been wanting cooked food again, mainly bread...and I cannot stop eating... but I am hoping this will pass.

That's about it from me Smiley

P.S Does anyone have a nutritious, yummy green smoothie recipe that is choc full of veggies? I'd love to up my green intake beyond salads.
