1  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: How are your teeth, on high fruits? on: Tuesday 29 July, 2008
this would obviously vary for diff people, but i'll make a note that both my brother and i have pretty well ruined our teeth after years of munching on salads with heaps of lemon juice in em. then it was set off by a blueberry eating competition... had really sensitive teeth and burning gums after that so couldn't eat anything sweet/acidic or hard for the next 4-5 days...
rather than the sugar, it was definitely the acid that etched the enamel of our teeth. we also both got receding gums soon after that.
its ok now cause we're eatin heaps more greens and raw milk & eggs anyway, but all it takes is a pink lady apple, some berries or citrus and the sensitivity comes right back and takes 1-2 days to recover.
we've only heard of a few others that have similar problems, and i think it takes a fair bit of abuse to do it... the burning started at around 600 blueberries, and we had to call it even at 1000 each... (and didn't pay a cent for em laugh)

3  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: Is there any Vegan Raw Foods that produce B12 on: Tuesday 19 February, 2008
maybe just that you'd be wasting two raw egg yolks every few days... lol
nah as you can see, I really support eating raw eggs, and i really believe that the yolk should be consumed as well (i don't mind 'the fats', our bodies are made from it).
when younger and going to gym nearly every day, i would have 8-10 raw eggs each day.... never had any ill effects and felt great on them. Although i now look back and see that as very 'over-board' i still think 1-2 each day is good.

Maybe I missed an earlier mention of this, but why not down a few raw eggs???

It's been discussed over and over that the b12 analogues from our comfrey, wheatgrass, etc... don't match up to the animal sources, and many have concluded that we should be taking supplements daily.

Fair enough this is against some vegan beliefs, but heres how i see it:
when my chooks are laying eggs nearly every day of the year with or without a rooster around, its obvious that their eggs are intended for food of other animals. The hens lay the egg and then walk off without a care in the world for what happens to that egg. (unless broody of course)

So whilst their giving me a perfect little package of protein and nutrients, I don't feel the need for supplements.

Just some food for thought ai...
6  Locally RAW / Australia & New Zealand / Re: New Permaculture/raw foods farm in Coffs Harbour on: Sunday 17 February, 2008
fbi, yeah land prices are pretty low at moment we paid $275 000 for our farm (close to town) but its dropped to somewhere around $220 000 over the last year or so.... shame. word is that the next price 'boom' will be in 2010...
but just last week i saw a 5 acre block 10 mins sth of coffs with creek and close to beach for $169 000. sounds to good to be true. so if there was a time to buy round here, it'd be right now....  shrug   hope that helps...

time seems to go slow Stine.... we don't take on wwoofers atm but would love to in years to come.
nevertheless, there's heaps of work to be done and we can surely take in visitors anytime lol
i'd say that next summer most trees will be starting to crop, and we'll be much more established

can't wait!
7  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: Raw Retreats on: Wednesday 16 January, 2008
The closest thing I've come accreoss to a "raw" health retreat in Oz is the Life Force Health Retreat in byron Bay. It's around the $1700 / wk mark so pretty pricey. and i've had no first hand experience with them so you may pay for alot of pampering etc...
There's a good 'health farm' in QLD that was mentioned on another post....

hope that helps

Its really hard to judge whether the raw eggs are gonna spoil the smoothie or not....
We've had terrible experiences with some whereby I'd rather just down the eggs seperate
But Just yesterday I had 4 eggs in a 1L smoothie that wasl ~60% greens with nana's, avo and grapes and there was hardly any aftertaste of egg... may have been the combination of weeds or fruit but she went down well.
and yeah the essential oils go well... just no more than 1 drop as mentioned!
9  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: A cheaper alternative to the Vitamix Blender? on: Wednesday 16 January, 2008
We use the "breville ikon 600" blender and its tops.
It was around the $150 mark and she gets any green smoothie as smooth as you want.
I've only used a Vitamix once at a mates place but I rekon this blender does as good a job.

There's my 2 bobs worth anyway   shrug

ah sorry its been so long...
for mushrooms the best guide we've found is Edible and Poisonous Mushrooms of the World but I think there's another good one on edible mushrooms of Australia an NZ, and I think Ian Hall is the author.
and for bushtucker, definately Tim Low's many books.

happy hunting

Suay are you heading over in 2008?

By the way its a fair bit cheaper to fly out of Melbourne than Sydney or Brisbane.... so those from Vic have no excuses not to be there !!!
