PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: Low platelets anyone?

It's still interesting to see how he goes with the platelets though, because as you said he is very healthy too, but with his history there is definatly reason to be concerned. As for the white bloods, anyone else that's been raw for a time and is low, let us know...please... ... it's an interesting concept. It's ok to say 'Yeah i'm fine', but if there is an underlying issue and anyone has any answers then I feel it must be addressed. xx

I will buy some off you if you want to get rid of some. Bring it next time we catch up.... just don't eat it before we catch up....

rudy, I used to wear glasses but since going raw I don't need them anymore, I used to put them on all day, now I don't even know where they are. (Yes I am the friend with the low White Bloods.)
I just got out my blood test results and Platelet count is normal, it's the White Cell count that is very low - sorry Jen to confuse you.
Causes stated on the form include, immune destruction, drug toxicity, infections (especially viral) adn vitamin b12 or folate defiency. None of these are relevant to me as I don't get sick..(touch wood)... don't and have never taken drugs of any sort, am not b12 or folate deficient.
It's quite confusing because doctors talk about white blood count and platelets together. From what Freedom said the platelets help with blood clotting and it is well known that white blood cells are for immunity. So if your body does not consume cooked food which sends a rush of white blood cells out to counteract the foreign matter entering the body and raw food does not do this can we assume that if you don't have a high need for white blood cells then the body willl not produce extra?....
To confuse the issue even more, my white bloods have been low for a very long time, even before going raw - (found test dating back to 97 and 98 showing them to be low). but I have always eaten a very clean, unprocessed diet with a lot of raw foods anyway, and have never been a sickly person and always been energitic.
It would be good to know if anyone else has low white blood cells and how they are going. I have decided not to worry about mine but since we are here it would be good to know.
So Rudy..... now will you please explain the question about eyesight.... i'm intrigued!!!!

Low fat.. but make sure you have some fat, preferably at night. Lots of greens and vegies and eat all of your fruit in the first half of the day....
Exercise.. lots of lunges, squats, leg press etc and lots of walking.... walk the lactic acid out of your legs after doing the excercises. Walking is great for leaning you legs out.
Patience, it won't happen overnight but it will happen and believe..... Believe that you can do it!....

Good on you Patti, I think what i was trying to say was that Dr Doug does say to eat some nuts and seeds, even he knows the importance of them, he does not encourage just fruit, so if you are following it to the book and eating what he recomends you will do fine. It just bothers me that 811 has been portrayed as "no overt fats at all" which it is not! The book needs to be read properly. He even recommends the occasional raw fat binge!
Thank you Rudi, MM and Rawsensation for your support!
I look forward to reading about your journey Patty, is the extra fruit helping with your cooked carb cravings?

Rawgasm, i've had the book for nearly 12 months, I also have Dr D's High Energy Diet Recipe Book, I've also lived it!...... Balance is essential, everything in moderation!!
I'm 100% raw have been for a long time, I love it, I live it, I have a family I look after (3 kids) and cook for, a business, my husband has a business, I'm happy, highly motivated, energetic and absolutely love life.... and I can tell you that an open mind and balance is essential. I think it is essential to that we all do what is right for us, this may not be right for the next person and the next will be different as well. Looking, listening and learning is what it's all about, Telling, following and instructing has shown itself to be conterproductive as I see so many people struggling with there raw journey. To me it has been nothing but a life of Absolute Indulgence.... raw foods and the raw food lifestyle continually makes my heart sing and always amazes me when I see so many fall off the wagon!! Nothing can take away my raw food and nothing tempts me but raw food.
But that's me, so everyone please just
LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH!
Enjoy!
kk xx
PS. Im usually very quiet on here, for some reason I found the courage to speak my mind today. My intentions are only good and Patricia, enjoy your raw journey... fruit is happy food, greens are nourishing food and fats are the balancing act that keep it all together..... everything in moderation!!............ and yes sometimes a little extras like spirulina and seaweed help finish off the equation, 100 years ago we may have been fine to just live on fruit and veg, but our soil is so depleted now, storage is longer etc etc, the nutrition in even 100% organic raw food is not like it used to be, lets be responsible and make sure we don't create unnecessary defeciencies. I strongly believe that if you are balancing all of these and having a few raw treat indulgences... life on raw food will be sweet! I think I have said enough on this thread as it is not the right place to addressing these issues.. Sorry Patricia! x

That's great, I hope it helps you to sort out your raw journey. I just think it is important to follow it properly and that is to make sure that you do get a small amount of overt fats which is what Dr D does tell you to do.
As for the spirulina and seaweed, isn't seeweed a natural living plant from the ocean, a green one at that, and the ocean contains all 92 minerals.... and spirulina is a natural algae that grows in water, full of nutrition.... sounds like very nourishing natural raw food to me!

Oops. Sorry Patricia, i've gone a little off track here. None the less it shows the importance of keeping a small amount of fats in the diet, even when doing 80/10/10. In Dr Dougs recipes book nearly all of his recipes have a small amount of nuts, seeds or avocado. So there you go he does actually eat fats! Obviously not too many but enough to keep the body in tip top shape. So many facets of the human body require fats, vitamin utilisation, hormones ect.
The high fruit is great but if you are not using up the sugars for energy then you may be getting too much, hence you are not really wanting to much fruit. Dr Doug's diet is very good for athletes and those that lead a very energetic lifestyle.
Frugi, you are a wealth of knowledge, so if you are eating seaweed and spirulina would you say that you are getting a good range of the necessary AHA and DHA? - that is if you are not breast feeding. These would be great on the 811 diet as they are low in overall fat and easy to obtain.

Thank you for that great information Frugi, I totally agree with you on the DHA thing. So you say we can it from seaweed? Does seaweed have AHA as well. I feel it is very important to keep the balance of good fats.
I absolutely love seaweed and have also heard the same thing about the availablity of the DHA in seeds. Seeds are a great source of Omega's, but obviously not complete.

Hi pos... great to see things are still getting better and better for you.
Will be great to catch up when you guys come for your visit. As for Tropical Fruit world, they have the best Black Sapotes (choc pud fruit) ever, I have 2 huge ones ready for my dessert tonight... And a Mamey Sapote which will be ready by about Thursday, just letting you know what you are in for. They have heaps of other great stuff too but I got out really quickly to save myself some money!!! as I only went to get the BS.
As for the growing muscles... amazing stuff that protein... mmmmmm.... growth and repair, that's what it does! Even as a raw vegan it's still important in my book. Good on you for acknowledging your need for it.
Much love
KK xx
