46  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: Raw fats article on: Saturday 22 November, 2008
i have a question rudolf? just curious as to what your approach is to diet? do you get calories from fat mostly? i think i've seen you mention it in some of your posts but just thought i'd ask.

also if 80/10/10 is propaganda then aren't high fat diets propaganda too? there's plenty of info out there saying high fat is bad or high fruit is bad what does one believe? in my opinion there's too much conflict on this forum about how much fat to eat in the diet. it's great that people can share their experiences about how a high fruit diet works for them or eating a low fruit diet works too but the arguing over ideologies doesn't get anywhere. i like fruit and i like fats like avocados, olives and coconuts. i eat alot of fruit too and it works for me fine as long as i combine it properly and have it on an empty stomach and it helps my energy levels. i do not eat enough fruit and 10 percent fat so i don't do 80/10/10 but i don't have a problem with fruit or fat. my point is though the fat wars are getting a little bit old.

i hope this post doesn't come across bad and i'm just curious about your approach rudolf not asking in a derogatory way.

hello journal. i've been away for a bit. not literally. too much thought about food lately and not enough living. i needed some distance. i will admit i've had some cooked food being social but still eating alot of raw food. when i eat raw food for a while at 100 percent i often loose sight of things like food. i know raw food isn't to blame. its me. i lose focus and i've started to realise that not everything is about food. i need to realise that i'm still the same person and that a raw food lifestyle doesn't mean i need to compromise on other aspects of my life.

i need to get myself on track and in control to stay on raw so that's a priority. i honestly think that when i eat raw food and am not hungry it's almost worse than having cooked food and not being hungry. when i eat raw there are times when my body just shuts off the desire to eat food completely and i need to learn to listen to that feeling. i need to channel my energy into more things and be in control so i don't turn to cooked food. i have been putting way too much effort into trying to make super gourmet raw food all the time. i'm very over it as a day to day thing. maybe once a week i might make something that tickles my fancy from now on but its so much easier to keep things simpler.

i've learnt alot about emotions and eating from gosia's site. thanks gosia your little lecture was really helpful. like my goal for now is to change how i think and feel about food. its just fuel not entertainment and i am going to try being more instinctive. less preparing food and planning out menus for the week. as long as i have alot of raw food at hand i can be prepared but not thinking about recipes and stuff like that.

i have a question too. does anyone know where to get disposable or reusable but practical cups to put smoothies in when on the go? i was thinking about getting a whole bunch of those smoothie type cups they have at juice bars ect that i can throw out or reuse. i often eat early in the morning when i'm not hungry before work but if i could make a smoothie and take it with me and have it when i'm hungry it would be awesome.

i can't wait for the weekend which i have off for the 2nd week in a row now  ohyeah
last weekend i went to the currumbin sanctuary farmers markets. it was really good some really cheap strawberries, peaches, apricots and other fruit. i am going to try and go to farmers markets every week for my shopping. much better value. after going to those markets i couldn't believe how the variety at the miami organic markets is so much better! it must be the best farmers markets on the coast which surprises me. i would think that non organic markets would have more variety considering with all the spraying ect they could have all sorts of exotic out of season things. anyway this sat i'll hopefully go to the mudgeeraba markets and organic one's on sunday. i refuse to eat non organic greens for some reason. oh and tomatoes too. anyway ciao for now journal.

well all those bugs eating my spinach outside must have warped instincts and must be dying from all that spinach they eat. there's alot of mixed up info there.

spinach is fine in salads raw, people eat it raw all the time. some foods are supposedly toxic raw, potato for example but you shouldn't even eat that cooked. soy beans are too hard and other beans also can't be eaten raw. some you can sprout though. phytates in grains are removed from sprouting, protease inhibitors in nuts too are removed when sprouted. oxalic acids occur in all greens so you have to rotate greens but the amounts are minimal so its very hard for them to poison you. just read victoria boutenko's green for life to find out more about that.

how did you find it savvy? did it give nut cheese a more cultured taste? always wanted to try make a really good nut cheeze. the one's i've seen in recipe books look really cheezy.

another thing i meant to mention was i need to cut down on frozen fruits. i often have frozen bananas or berries in my smoothie and i wonder if this isn't playing up with my digestion after reading about it today in sunfood diet sucess system. from now on it's fresh fresh fresh!

i too am glad rgg. i think it shows that people's mindset is starting to change and theyre slowly becoming more open minded. plus i was looking at mccain's policies and obama seems to be a bit more green friendly.

hi jen. i'm good. like metamorphisis guessed i am in the middle of exams. today i had a bit of a rest day. after too much reading i am feeling a bit spaced out. i got out the sunfood diet from the library and read alot of it. i should have done some exercise i feel even though it's good to rest. it got me thinking that i need something to channel my energy into and start making plans for my days so i can get the maximum out of them. other than today though i have been sticking to my raw food. i did have organic and preservative free vegan red wine that i found at dan murphys for a friends get together on monday. lesson learnt there. i don't know how some of those people do raw food and alcohol. i just needed to sleep the next day and i guess that might explain my laziness today as well.

on a positive note i've put together a plan for my raw eating. i won't go into too much detail but i've written up combinations that don't work for me ect and guidelines that i find work best for me. i want to pretty much cut out nuts and maybe have a nut dish once or twice a week if i really desire but i find they just don't work for me as an everyday food. some things that don't zap my energy though are chia seeds as long as i don't overdo them and a tiny amount of pumpkin seeds or sesame seeds. also almond milk doesn't seem too bad maybe because it's not so dense like the whole nut? fats that work well for me though are avocado and olives so i don't mind having half an avo with a few raw olives with a salad at night. i am aiming for more greens and will accommodate for this with green smoothies/juice every day plus a green salad. one thing i have to start doing is making up a big salad at night for the next day if i'm at work or uni. i don't feel like large fruit meals when i work. i wouldn't mind some fruit as a snack but a salad with a bit of avocado seems to be the thing i want for lunch when i'm at work. lastly i need to drink more water for so many reasons. i've read it everywhere. so many signs of not enough water. actually i've just had a glass of water and feeling a bit clearer already  shrug

i had a little slip up but i'm charging forward today. yesterday i had a really bad acid belly or some sort of stomach ache at work. i really wanted relief and so i had some organic yoghurt and it settled down and then a sandwich with lettuce and tomato on organic bread. i don't know what caused the tummy ache exactly. maybe the whole pint of raw ice cream after a avocado salad i had the night before and then having a mango banana and paw paw pudding for breakfast didn't sit on that well. either way i've learnt that you can't eat that much ice cream even if it's raw.
I'm really glad i'm not beating myself up over it. i'm almost pretending it didn't happen. lesson learnt. i'm sure it wont hurt that much and i feel like i haven't really slipped up much at all since i had a big salad at night. a green smoothie packed full of kale this morning and went and did run swim runs at the beach this morning again. just thought i'd post about my stomach ache and see if anyone has ever had a bad stomach ache on raw food too. it was painful even my back was hurting from it. i think i shouldn't eat so late also so when i have fruit for breakfast there is nothing to intefer with it. i'm not so much going for a high fruit or high fat raw diet at the moment just getting used to eating raw but i have found eating fruit till afternoon is good for my energy levels and it digests best on its own. so if i must have gourmet food i think it's best late in the afternoon and waiting a good 10 hours before fruit and i've been avoiding mixing starches from veges with fruits also which seems to work well.

i thought it was great too. alot of people seemed interested. apparently they'll be stocking the raw pies now. i don't think they'll do sydney or expand from the south east to be honest raw connection. they've been on the coast for a long time i think they would have done it earlier but i've heard there's lots of good organic bargains to be had in sydney.
