"When we deny negative emotions, they accumulate in the shadows of our bodymind and emerge to sabotage our best intentions and make us ill." (from the website)

Dear Melb - I can't help but applaud your decision to give us the link to this website.

I latched on to the quote I pasted above because this to me strikes a  very deep and very important chord. I've see so many people deny their negative emotions, paste a layer or mask of something over the top of this (usually some rather arbitrary 'philosophy' or 'ideology') and fall into something much darker and deeper, or ignorant. The negativity just bursts out somewhere - like that old chestnut of the car that when you close a door, the other pops open. And when you close that door, the boot flies open etc.

Staring your dark side in the face is hard. But pasting a mask over it is worse and yes, it DOES surface in your body. Psychological research that started over a century ago has shown me enough evidence that this is true. It is an effect that the conventional medical trade does not want to see, stuck in its own hubris.

What Alboher says about being a witness to others is so important - and never mind the modality. You can dress that up with whatever words you want to give it. It's the attitude of witnessing that is imporant.
'An enlightened witness can be anyone willing and able to closely listen to and support us without judgment or a particular point of view to defend.'

THank you Melb!  ok ok ok

2  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: Best Organic Food and Skincare Store Near Central Melbourne on: Yesterday at 11:46 AM
Hi RS!

Melbourne central is right in the heart of the central business district, and about the best place nearest that I can think of (others may think of somewhere closer) is the South Melbourne Market, which has a great organic stall. There's also the Victoria Market which also has some excellent organic stalls, but not sure what days they are open as the Vic market isn't open every day. You might want to check their website.

There are other good places but more suburban and not so close the Melbourne Central.

Hope this helps!

I have believed for a long time that our emotions can play out through our bodies. So my brother and my son both feel things in similar manner. Their bodies express themselves with similar allergies. Very much the same way that I hold anger like my father and let it out the same explosive way. We both have similar issues.

and oddly enough, this idea is not a new one. Repressed thoughts can and definately DO manifest themselves through the body, and can cause really serious illness. Although most of the 'psych' disciplines and CERTAINLY the medical trade poo-poo this, good old Dr Freud explored this very seriously at the turn of the 20th century.

our bodies and our minds are NOT divorced!

It also works the other way, IMHO. If your body is unhappy - say from a food allergy - it certainly impinges on out minds and emotions. I know this is from a different thread, but I think Theresa mentioned that we can repress our thoughts to such a degree, and ignore our emotions that it manifests in our bodies - we self-talk so well sometimes! And we can self-talk outselves into a state of 'bliss' that might hide something we don't want to face. (I should know, I've done this often enough!  uhuh)

I am of the opinion that kids of 'school'-age are under the pump - they are being constantly reminded by 'grown-ups' about how to behave that a great deal of repression goes on in their heads; and with their great big open minds, this is very hard. No wonder it comes out in their bodies!

I like to think that I create a little bit of space for my 6yo (nearly 6yo - she announced that she was 5 and 3/4 the other day!!!) where she can let it all out a bit. She's a very verbal little thing (ie never stops talking!) so that's a good way for her to get it out. I know I shouldn't try a pre-empt future problems but I AM a mother!!!

Hope Brock and you are doing well. It sounds like things are shifting.

Well done!

Artymama, last time this happened I was sure it was gluten. However I didn't really want to believe it so I didn't eliminate everything that had gluten in it. He still has a few things. However we are going to get rid of those and just keep in improving his diet.

I was wondering about this today as Brock is very, very much like my brother in temperament and my brother is gluten intolerant. Might have to give him a call.

Gluten also causes emotional changes - my daugher was really hyper before I realized she was gluten intolerant - the change in her emotions happened very quickly. She is much more calm and grounded now (as far as that can happen in a 6 yo!)

If flax crackers are not edible to Brock, could you try organic rice crackers? I know they're processed, but they are gentle on the tummy. Ella loves these.

Just out of curiousity - when you say that Brock has the similar temperament to your gluten intolerant brother, what does that mean for you?

Cheers, and keep in mind that humans might not really be able to cope with gluten.

Letting go is such a realization! I didn't know I let go of this until way after the fact:

I was talking to a friend of mine about Catholic education - she was telling me about how religions had their rules, and they were so very strict and enforced, and especially about how you can't fight it.

And I felt SO FAR AWAY FROM IT ALL!!
(having been raised cat, but not stayed there!)

I was SO proud of myself! I didn't entangle myself into this energy at all.

What a liberation!

DEFINATELY the moonlight!

Full moon does amazing things to me - always leave something out for the faeries! Love the feeling of this type of moonlight! Some interesting things happen!!!!
Dark moon too, great for peeling away unwanted energy.

On the topic of strawberries; I have a pot growing and have just discovered that I have a big, healthy new strawberry plant growing in another pot next to original pot.

I'm thrilled, because it means more strawbies, but I'm also thrilled because my little strawbies were smart enough to fly from ont pot to another!  yahh yahh yahh

Plants are so clever, it never fails to amaze me!

I agree - Coles strawbs are suspicious; how can you trust a strawberry that is that big? It's only the price of them that seduces us!

I haven't crunched any numbers on my grocery (just to tune in to this thread) but I spend a LOT on strawberries because all my kids eat them all the time!

9  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Recipes - Meals & Snacks / raw bread on: Friday 29 August, 2008
Hello everyone - does anyone know of a way to make raw 'bread' without gluten in it? Am having trouble with reflux and indigestion and need something to soak up some acids in there. If I am completely on the wrong track, please let me know!

I love essene bread, but family can't eat it as it is full of wheat and gluten.

best cheers and thanks, Niqi

10  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Off Topic Chat / Re: Immunization on: Friday 29 August, 2008
Hi - I didn't catch the report, but I don't think it is actually compulsory to immunize your child in Australia. (or at least in Victoria. I don't know about other states)

It's a  bit difficult to go through school bureaucracy without an immunization certificate, but it's not legally compulsory.

Probably not a help to you, but food for thought!

 yahh yahh yahh

This is a goody; it doesn't matter how or at what level of drawing you are, this is not the point.. Getting out of the logical/logos/word zone of the brain is what you are aiming for.

Take a pencil and a piece of paper (or whatever you want to draw with). Hold it in the hand you DON'T write with.

Look at an object - it's better to do this with one eye, the same eye that is on the side you are holding the pencil with -

look at the object, but don't look at the object; look at the SPACE around the object.

Draw that space.

Don't look at the page at all. Keep looking at the space, and let your eye caress that space.

Let your eye and your hand guide the pencil without looking at the page until you are finished.

Without judging the result (this is the hard bit!!)
get a colour - crayon, paint, whatever,
and fill in the space AROUND your drawing with colour.

HAVE FUN.

Cheers, Niqi

edit:  Niqi, your signature quote is rather poignant "Your real duty is to preserve your dream" ~ Amedeo Modigliani...wonderful!  Lovely humour too!  Thank you :-)

Just a quick query - exactly how is growing your own food going to be policed? I am unsure as to how growing your own backyard carrots is going to be monitored unless it's going to be an entire police state situation with neighbours peering over your back fence and then reporting to the veggie police - a bit like under a communist/socialist regime.

Would my neighbour report me for growing my parsely? Only if she hated me, I guess. I could always bribe her with my best fresh potatoes. (I'm not trying to be flippant, but under soviet communism, a lot of this blackmarket trading went on, all the time.)

I'm actually quite amused by the idea of my neighbour dobbing me in to the carrot cops because I need to feed my kiddies vegetables because Coles only sells genetically modified food with wheat products in them. I know it's happened before in other dictatorial regimes, as history has shown us.

But history has also shown us that there is a great deal of underground resistance as well. It might be illegal, but people HAVE written poetry, made art, practiced spirituality against the state AND then overturned it. Remember the Czech Velvet Revolution.

*taking up her carrots and heading on down to a cop shop for a hoe-in protest*

14  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Beauty / Re: Recommendations Please on: Thursday 14 August, 2008
Can anyone suggest a natural (SLS-free) toothpaste that actually works?

Weleda do a good line in toothpastes. They are a bit more pricey than Coles rubbish but they last longer and are effective. I get mine from my local healthfood shop, but Weleda do have a website and I think you can order from them.

My teeth have actually become whiter even though these are not whitening products. I use a paste called 'ratania' from Weleda. I've found other brands of herbal toothpastes quite ineffective.

Hope this helps!

15  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Off Topic Chat / Re: Shocking Waste of Food on: Thursday 14 August, 2008
Sheesh that's awful!

This waste of food is a real family-guilt laden pet peeve of mine. My parents were children during ww2 and often went hungry (not to mention family in death camps etc). It also makes me think of when I first became aware of this during the horrible Ethiopian famine in the 80s.

Good to know it's still going on and that humanity has REALLY got off it's a***e since the 21st century.  evil

Even more reason to stop buying from Coles.

*grumble grumble grumble*
