1  Go RAW! The Testimonial Section! / RAW Journals - Your RAW Experiences / Re: Raw in Taiwan on: Saturday 17 May, 2008
The rest of the week has been pretty good for me. Yesterday was meant to be just a melon day, but it turned into a melon and carrots and hummous day - not all together, I just couldn't resist when james brought out the carrots and dip. I also found a guy selling watermelon from his truck just a few blocks down from my school - he chops it up for you and everything. I want to start just drinking watermelon juice in the evenings because I get home so late and never have time to eat between 2 and 8.
Another bonus was that james remarked of the dip last night: "This is so tasty, cooked food couldn't be this tasty." Coming from my meat and starch loving guy, this is a major breakthrough!
I have a birthday dinner for a friend tonight and we're all going out, I'll be able to skip the dinner part, but there's going to be no avoiding the alcohol - oh well, baby steps.

Hi, thanks for the responses. Yup, Asia is packed with fruits and veggies - and it's really easy to grab a bag of pineapple or wax apple, all chopped up and ready to go from the street vendors. You're right about people being very hospitable and generally they won't take no for an answer. But, I find 'I'm on a diet' works pretty well since people here aren't at all shy about pointing out that I'm overweight.
Japan is amazing too, and I've been teaching English for 7 years now - it's a great way to make money and travel. You'll love it.

This week has been pretty good. Green smoothies every morning and a salad for lunch. I made some hummous this week and we've been munching on that with carrot sticks for dinner.
The other night somebody gave me a baozi (little stuffed bread thingie) and I just started munching into it without thinking. Stopped myself about halfway through, but have got to be more conscious of what I'm eating.

I've got a few social things on this weekend, but nothing so far that's going to involve eating - so, here's hoping it's a good weekend!

I just love this journal idea - what a great way to stay inspired.

Ok, well, I've been overweight and unhealthy forever and tried a few diets and detox attempts with mediocre results. I tried to go raw earlier this year, but just kind of drifted off track in the winter. I got inspired again a few weeks ago when I browsed through my favourites folder one day. This lead to a flurry of new web searching and browsing and we've been green smoothiing up a storm. My husband, James, is on board too after reading Storm's e-books so we're both really excited about our new way of life.

At the moment we do have to give ourselves some leeway with being 100%, these are our last few months in Taiwan (after 7 long years) and this time of year there's always a ton of foreigner farewell parties and so on. So we're going to allow ourselves one cooked meal a week when we go out and try to stay 100% raw during the week. That's the plan anyway.

Today we had:

Green smoothie with mango, banana, and spinach.
Carrot spaghetti with tomatoes and nut cheese.
Some avo

Tonight might have to be the cooked night cause we got to go meet some people at a Turkish restaurant, but hopefully there'll be some healthy options.

Have a good one!

I've been lurking here for a few weeks and decided to jump in and introduce myself.

I've been a vegetarian for quite a while, and have been struggling to evolve into vegan the whole time. After loads of research I definitely think raw is the way to go. The past couple of weeks have been good and I love how much information is available on the net - although my husband is beginning to suspect that I'm a bit obsessed...

I'll be moving to Australia (Perth) in July, so I figured this is the perfect community to join - so many helpful people on here.

Looking forward to getting to know you all!
