..slight tangent... has anyone tried celeriac? I had never actually seen one, and there it was, so I bought it. It's a very interesting vegetable. I don't know, but I suspect the tops can be regrown for greens. I'm going to try, anyway. Has anyone used celeriac?

Brett,

I haven't tried celeriac, but I love them to look at.  I always see them as a 'mr potato head' and want to put little eyes, nose and a mouth on them.  They have great green hair.  cheesy

A friend uses a lot - but he cooks them, so that's of no help.  In fact this whole post is no help.  But I do love them aesthetically.

In my head, I would approach as fennel.  Grated in salads or coleslaw would be divine - but that's just a hunch.  You could dehydrate and make celery chips too I suspect.

In deed, I chopped it finely and mixed it with chopped walnut. It had a definite potato-like starchy quality, and a very mild flavour. Like turnip but not strong in flavour. Dehydarated is a good idea... they would probably make excellent chips.

I like it grated in my salads. Try buying the smaller ones as they taste better than the larger ones too.
I saw some really big ones today for 3.99 each. However I didn't buy one as their is only so much food one can eat in a week.

I want to eat your picture RGN. That looks yummy.. what is it?

As I said, this is the first celerriac I've ever seen.. or maybe it's just the first I've ever noticed(?) Can the heads be replanted? I seem to remember Dr Ann talking about celeriac greens. I will try some of it in a soup, and also will try kohlrabi (I'm a virgin with that too). Celeriac looks like a good staple for the vegie garden ... just thinking out loud..

Seeing celeriac is a root I wonder if you bought one and cut it up and planted it, would it grow like potatoes?
I guess the only way to find out is to try it.

isn't it so colorful brett...that is one of my versions of raw soup...

here's the recipe

3-5 ripe sweet lush tomatos
1/2 to 1 small avo
1/2 red onion chopped
corn scraped fresh from the cob
1/2 bunch of parsley
1 small apple cored and de-pipped
small dash of pure water
blend until roughly combined,i don't like mine totally smooth
in another bowl
1/4 chopped red onion
grated parsnip
little more corn kernels freshly scraped off cob
pour in soup,and stir through
decorate the top with grated carrot and halved cherry tomatos and grated zuchinni..

this is so awesome and filling and pure joy to eat,the colorfullness makes me so happy when i eat it...

sometimes i take out the avo and add celeriac instead, makes for a slighly less creamy soup, but no less delicous...

I've had a lot of luck with the bananas since the cyclone...not to be cruel to those who have suffered because of the disaster.

I've found at organic shops or at markets they have bananas at half price because they are ready to eat and ripe now. We are talking perfect bananas....just because they are not green and unripe they become cheap. I've found bananas for $3 dollars a kilo at Queen Vic Market, and $4 a kilo at an organic shop...and this is for organic bananas... not even conventional.
Has anyone had similar experiences? If not ask where you shop if they have any discounted!

I hope avcocados are not too affected....oh I could live on avocado if they weren't so high in fat.
