it is autumn here in the states. made Will and myself some cashew yoghurt- which came out beautifully and which Will adores. hub and i have offered him bits of cooked occasionally but he tastes and turns his nose up- yay! we are currently sharing the kitchen with ants and the house altogether w/fleas. the ants make it slightly difficult to soak, sprout, etc. i have found a walnut tree down the street. walnuts all over the ground in their round green fortresses. i will look up how to handle them and conquer undoubtedly. the last of the figs have ripened on our neighbor's tree. i was given free reign on "our" side. there were mornings that i would go all morn'n doing chores, not eating, then wander out and delight in a handful or 2. he's offered to start a tree for me if i can find out how to start it from a cutting. i have saved the seeds from a few org galas that i hope to start on the sill by winter. starting in november i will be receiving shipments of florida citrus- not org. but fresh and less enviro-affecting transport-wise as the only decent citrus available lately has been s. african! sorry for the sudden wordage and sparse activity 'til now. the cost here is outrageous! peace

Hey Ms Wytch,

Long time, no see!  Funny thing - I was only thinking about you yesterday, and wondering how things were going.

It sounds like you're in fruit tree plantin' mode, girl!  I've only ever wanted a lemon tree, 'cos I just love lemons.  And a magnolia, but you can't eat them - just a means by which to faint at their sheer beauty.

Oh, and I made Jordan's nuts a little while ago - they still rock!

Happy fruit cultivating....

Hi Motherwytch,

Well, I've just decided to peek in and have a little read at your journal.  Well, lo and behold the first entry in this journal sounds like me RIGHT NOW.  But anyhoo, this is not about me.

Just a quick email to ask you how on earth you made the cashew yoghurt? And can you substitute the cashews with any other nuts?  Wow, the name itself sounds delightful.....CASHEW YOGHURT!!!!

Anyway nice to "meet" you and hopefully I'll be armed with your recipe soon.

Rita -  really raw cashews blended either simply on their own with a bit of water, or with a bit of lemon juice, or even cucumber or parsley, will make a great yoghurt.   It turns really white and creamy.

Beware though--  cashews that are not really raw will just taste like cashew nuts blended up!  Smiley

Smiley 1 c cashews, ground fine blended with 1 c water. pour into a jar, cover with a paper towel/cheese cloth and place in a warm place until liquid separates. pour it off or stir it in, cover properly and refrigerate. i secure my paper towel w/a rubber band. the top of my fridge serves as my yoghurt maker and it has taken from a few hours to over 12 to achieve whey separation. i am on my way to make another batch- poss w/pepitas. funny this- even if i have conventional cereal i cannot stomach dairy or soy milk or yoghurt anymore. Will enjoyed his yo w/cinnamon and soaked raisins and agave and mashed strawbs.    Giggles, it is so nice to be thought of. Thank you.          ----------- i'm not doing well. there are so few trustworthy about me that i find it nes to complain to a journal on the other side of the world. the fruit we have is 3 mangoes, 2 bags frozen blueberries, raisins, sultanas, horrid figs, and dried apricots. i'm not in a good mind right now. i'll try to jot more in a few days. Monday is Sam's 6th birthday.

Oh Whytchie, I wish I could send you some fruit or something to make it all better. I hope that life improves for you dramatically and that you get to enjoy your son's 6th birthday. I hope he enjoys it as well! Much love.

Hello! Or, hello? Day 4- again. Ha!  So, i thought i'd get some aus-some inspiration. Tho i seem to wake up every spring and drop off every fall (opposite for y'all, course!) there are a few differences this go around: we've a raised bed that is growing radishes, bunching onions, carrots, beets, turnips, zucchini, cucumbers, peas, corn, and melons. Nasturtiums, also. We have raspberry canes that should produce for us next or the following year. We will be building a greens bed soon. And will be planting hazels in the fall. Oh, we also have a mulberry tree. Now, groceries are dangerously low but Dan has promised to stop on the way home from work. This time i am avoiding grains and GASP! chocolate... I know, me too! Been juicing daily and daily gs. Also paying attn to fats. Need to figure out how to get to the member page to change my name as i am no longer qualified to use the name wytchy. Love to all!

I think i'm going to make stuffed shrooms today. I gorge them w/spinach, alas, there's no spinach to be found. I'll come up with something. Does anyone know a good way of marinating that doesn't call for shoyu or its ilk? I forgot to mention our little blueberry bush earlier. And that i'm staying away from agave. I am using raw honey, however. W/bits... Mmmm, bits. Love

I'm dreaming of cherry tarts. Dan brought home a bag of cherries. So, the crust needs to be pine nuts and... apricots? Hmmm. Wound up making stuffed peppers for supper. Had green and orange- orange are my favorites! I am going to try to update my journal once a week, unless i hit on something special. Love

There is a gorgeous recipe for a cherry tart in Raw Food Real World I've always wanted to try. Thanks for the reminder.

Piers and I had 8 1 pound bags of cherries a few weeks ago and they were all gone in a day. It was quite a treat. We're getting 12 pounds for $80 that we split with another couple. What a deal!

Let us know how you go with the cherry tarts!

What a lot of cherries! Lucky ducks, you 2.        Husband in a charming mood today. This is making it a bit difficult to be positive and upbeat but Shocked) have had some lemon water and a gs so far today. Last night i started a jar of yogurt- added a bit more of the cashews to make it thicker. This raw thing certainly helps me practice patience! Should have spinach today for stuffed shrooms. Day 4!
