I have started seeing apricot kernals used in raw food cuisine for the almond taste... how wild is that! I don't know if you've ever tasted one but they definitely taste like marzipan! We usually crack ours open after eating the apricot.

A friend introduced Piers and I to the idea of apricot kernals... he had used them with his treatment of brain cancer (he's 5+ years past when doctors told him he could live, and totally symptom free). Phillip Day also has a whole book on B17 (which is the active element in apricot kernals people use them for). I've also seen them sold in health food stores as 'northern almonds' presumably becasue they couldn't sell them as apricot kernals legally... I don't know for sure though.

My understanding is that in Australia the status of selling / eating apricot kernals is iffy, but they are available. If you want to research them some more you can check out the following sites:

http://www.apricot-kernels.com.au/ (a source to purchase in Australia)
http://www.vitaminb17.org/ (information and articles)
http://www.cancure.org/laetrile.htm (information and articles)

Happy reading!

If I dig deep into my brain I think that the substance contained in the kernals is laetrile and iiiiiiiis favoured by german physians of the early part of  the last century.
