last Tuesday I saw this documental on Omega 3 on SBS

The show was asking whether by eatin fish we were more intelligent.
This was an UK study.
They did several studies on the fish question and they said that fish was a good source of Omega 3.
And several doctors were saying how good fish was.
But the interesting thing was when they tested vegetarians who didn·t eat fish, and they had a good source in their bodies of Omerga 3. And the vegetarian kids were as intelligent as fish eating kids
This particular doctor who is not a vegetarian found  that people that were vegetarian had a normal amount of Omega 3.
And the answer was that vegetarians have a good amount of greens in their diet.

He said that linseed was not a good way to obtain Omega 3 and that Omega 3 in in green  vegetables
was sufficient for vegetarians.
That is very good because being raw foodist we are having a large amount of greens, vegetables and fruits.

Did anyone else saw this programme?

yes, I saw the program...wasn't it a shocker...
I especially loved the part when the school principal thought that diet didnt effect the kids learning - well not that much, not enough to worry about!!!!  what an idiot.  Well, I shouldn't be so harsh... I guess if you don't have any direct experience of feeling better than what you live with each day... then you might say such a thing.  I think he needs a good dose of omega 3, and then see if he still feels the same way!!

I didn't see the part that you are talking about though, cos I switched it off after I saw that guy.  What did they say about linseeds???

very cool info.  I also read about a difference in farm-raised vs. wild salmon since people eat salmon for the omega 3's.  This particular book was about inflammation and it said that farm-raised salmon is a no-no for those with inflammatory problems since they are given cereal grains for their feed.  I know that farm-raised salmon are also given red dyes in the water in order to make the flesh redder b/c otherwise it'll come out on the grayer side.  i guess wild salmon won't induce inflammation.  i'll have to let a friend of mine know this since her husband has major joint problems and they try to eat healthy.

thanks for the post patricia.

One doctor said that green vegetables were enough and linseed to be used for cleaning.
This was the doctor that said vegetarians had sufficient omega 3 in their diet.

I still have the linseeds in my smoothies, who do you believe?

Imagine if someone could make a corrections facility 100% raw vegan. Or a boarding school. Captive guinea pigs? Sounds unethical I suppose, but still... imagine!

Hey Patricia, this is great news! I'm going to keep that information in my head for all the non-believers. Thank you. I don't watch tv but maybe I'll have to start watching some doco's. If linseed is not hurting you at all then go for it. Try a few weeks without it and see how you go.

Hi Paul, I was having a conversation with another mother at school the other day and we were talking about kids behaviour and I said that I rarely give my kids sugar because it sends them off the deep end and turns them into nasty monsters. The other mother (big obese woman) told me I was ridiculous and did I not know that food doesn't affect moods? Believe it or not, there are people out there who are so far not into their health they just don't take any of that stuff in! I changed the subject and talked about something else for awhile. She probably thinks I'm anorexic!!! Never mind.

hmmm so what are our cells made up of-therefore our whole bodies...if not from the food we consume..duh! go figure! rolleyes

i was sitting peacefully in my car today,on my break, drinking my lunch and reading my book..and there was a park vacant opposite me...next thing i know i lady (mmm in a fashion i will callher a lady! :rolleyes:reversing flat out back to the park...yelling at the woman behind her,i was here first i saw it first its mine....oh my god, half expected to see her slamming down a large peperoni pizza at the same time...disgusting! she drives into her precious park, sees me looking at her..and looks all shame faced, and mumbling bit#h,under her breath....how ridiculous...
so foods and excitotoxins dont effect moods eh...oh and she was sucking madly on a cigarette, looked like she was around 23...but hey maybe she's really only 17,and the ageing process has just been madly sped up by the "its my park,episode"..lol

Hubby can tell when I've been eating cooked. Says I'm cranky when I eat cooked. Brave man. At the moment that means he cops it every three days or so! Oh dear. Personal experience tells me the truth.

i believe that every school already does serve raw vegan..fruit. maybe not the best quality but some is always better than none.

food affects how we think.
how we think, affects what we eat.

we are what we eat. chilled out organic sun loving fruit

or caged, trapped, soul broken, drugged up piece o' flesh

Of course, schools these days are sensative to the "healthy canteen" issue. P and Cs are always debating how they can do better. Some have even eliminated things like soft drinks, etc. Good on them for that, but really, they've got no idea. I had the idea a while back of making raw vegan snack bars, and pedalling them to the local high schools. Of course, I wouldn't tell them they were raw vegan, just that they had "no artifcial ingredients, and no preservatives". It would depend on being able to deliver every other day, and keeping everything well refridgerated. The goal is to trick kids into preferring them... without Snickers and Violet Crumbles to compete with, I think that would be doable.

food is a powerful mind altering drug...i get comments all of the time about how calm i am...and i eat high fruit, low fat and some greens...who says you cant be grounded on high fruit!and most days my fat intake is 5-7% of my total cals...

yep raw vegan in canteens, bring on the fruit...gives the kids the best brain food that they can ever hope for..the carbs make the mind so clear and the memory formidable...

There were some studies conducted awhile back in America where kids doing exams were given a banana to eat just before their exam, and those who had the nana were generally calmer and did better in their exams!!
