It's been 4 weeks, so far so good.  Today my hair feels good, but actually looks oily.  But it has so much body - absolutely heaps of body.

And I got a friend to smell it on Sunday, and she couldn't smell anything   yahh

This is my third attempt. I first tried back in october last year but I had long hair at that stage and I was trying to grow the chemical crap out. So dark oily roots just looked Blaaah.
Early December my natural colour was about an inch and a half long so whacked it all off. I thought this was the perfect opportunity to give no poo a go again. Hubby and I did a month long trip around the Sth Island which involved lots of camping and hiking...Ahhh it was pure bliss. And the haircut and no poo was working in so well. Until I went and stayed with mum for a few weeks. Had I not told her about it she probably would never have known. Unfortunately I thought I would share my excitement of our natural life with her and the extents we we go to (I have no idea why i thought this would be wise, shes never supported any of my ideas) so of course she went on and on and made me more and more self conscious about it until I broke and started washing it again. Thankfully not long after, I moved back to Japan and back to my supportive husband. Where I can be myself and hopefully gather the strength to stop giving a damn about what other people think.  nope
So that brings me to the present. Ive been no poo for a little over 8 weeks,  its usually pretty good, sometimes it just doesnt cooperate at all but I think that's due to the fact my hairstyle is in a horrible 'in between stage' and really needs some sort of style.

I just read today in 'neals yard' book a dry shampoo treatment.

1tsp orris root
2 tsp arrowroot
2 tsp dried herbs (choose what is best according to your hair type)
Mix together and grind to a fine powder in a pestle & mortar. Rub the powder into wet hair and then rinse out.

Good for you rawkiwi. I have started letting my hair go again too. After many nit treatments ranging from olive oil to hardcore chemicals my hair looks blerk. But after leaving it a week it has it's body back. Quite oily though. I'll have to find my awesome brush and get into it again.

Well, they say blondes have more fun  rofl

Right now my hair has massage oil in it with basil, frankensense and something else, maybe bergamot.
I have work to do before tomorrow morning and the massage therapist finished off by massaging my scalp.....she's awesome.  So my hair pretty much looks like it did this morning but smells prettier.

Rawkiwi, mothers can be like that.  My parents don't share my alternative views, but I've learned from them.  When my kids come home with pink hair they know they won't shock me, as I used to be an apprentice hairdresser........in the 80's no less LOL.  I think I had more wierd hairstyles in those few years than I had hot dinners.

I love the sound of your camping trip, and your hubby too.  It's so nice to have support.  laugh

My greying hair is a part of who I am. I have inner peace with that.
I believe we have a need to follow our heart and our instincts. We need to look for approval from the inside. It's quite a freeing experience. We should always be able to look in the mirror and love every part of who we see.

If the quote box didn't work it's because I couldn't spend any more time trying it. The above quote is from RawAussieAthlete and I am sorry RAA I have not replied to it as yet.

The first time I read it I guess I was in some sort of denial here about my greying hair. But you know, the longer I thought about it without getting all emotional, the more I realised that what RAA said is just so true. It is part of me, and I actually don't mind the greys. I kind of like them. It's more about what I think other people think- same old thing with most women (and men?) I guess... all that advertising "because you're worth it" and other such gunk messes with our heads.

So, thanks Rawaussieathlete for your words, when they finally sunk in, they were very helpful.

Love rawfairylady

Pics, no chance to take them, hairstyles and colours would change every few weeks or so.  And my parents weren't big on taking photos..........sorry.  I think I had one photo when I was in the local paper, I'll see if I can dig it out.   laugh

Ah yes. People didn't take photos as much then hey! But if you do find that pic it would be great!

We are just about to de-nit the household again today. Grrrr. Relentless little buggers. Best advertisement for homeschooling that I have known.

re bicarb to wash hair - I make it into a paste with water and gloop it onto my dry hair before my shower, concentrating mainly on the roots.  I then give it a little massage and leave to dry a bit as I make my morning smoothie, check my emails etc.  Then I jump in the shower and wash it out.

Just tried this for the first time and found that there is a very fine line between paste, glue, gloop and runny!

Can you please give me your ratios for the bicarb powder and the water.

And yes, cold water was a mistake  laugh

Hey Jen, head lice seems to be fairly popular amongst the homeschooling groups we frequent around here!  We are fortunate that we haven't had the little ones visit our heads yet...even after a friend started scratching her head and stated "aww, I think I've got nits again" after I had just given her a hug...hmmm.

Hugs (nit-free),
Jack

the ratio I use for the bicarb soda & water is 5 parts bicarb to 2 parts water.

hope this helps
