Oh Jackie that's no good! I hope that you didn't all get them. Hugs!

Sanga thanks for the ratio. I'm going to start this tomorrow. My hair is ridiculously oily again. I have to wash it every day now or I look like Professor Snape.

Tee hee. That is one of my favourite youtube vids. Sad hey! The kids and I watch it almost daily and have been driving Bill crazy with our singing!

I got up this morning with my hair in greasy lank strands and made up the bicarb mix. I ended up with a half and half mix of the bicarb splattered through my hair! It did the trick. I was a bit worried because when I was in the shower my hair was squeaking as I ran my fingies through it but it's fine.

Non greasy and curly and awesome!

To all those who have recommended the bicarb in this thread thank you! And to those who have not tried it, please do. It's amazing.

Caitlyn has not used shampoo for about 6 months now (except during nit times) and her hair is looking amazing.

For the last few weeks I have been using African Black Soap on my body in the shower.

Last week I lathered up my hands and washed my hair with it. I rinsed it well under the shower and then did a final rinse with a mix of organic apple cider vinegar & warm water

It left my hair looking clean and shiny and it felt really soft to touch.

I hope Jennie does not mind me posting this link here ~

More info here:

I am going to use it (and the ACV rinse) to wash my hair from now on.

Ok I feel like a complete idiot now but I have just re-discovered this thread...

What is bicarb?? Is it just baking soda?? or something more mysterious...?

I have been doing the baking soda and apple cider vinegar thing for almost 3 weeks and
I am almost not losing any hair, and it just feels more like hair....  shrug

My son Luke has never liked washing his hair and I was never too worried about it cause it just did not got really dirty anyway. He is 7 now and has beautiful thick hair anyway I am now trying to talk him into growing his hair long.... :-)

I think that they are different things. I don't know if you have it over there but we do here! I've reduced the amount i use though to two teaspoons to five tablespoons of water because the 1 tablespoon was stripping too much oil from my hair and it went all staticky! It looked like someone had rubbed a balloon on my head!

Hi Jen,

I had a look on wiki but it is actually the same, just different names I am hoping.

I never used it on dry hair gotto have a go tonight see if that works better I just cannot get it really clean at the moment.

Apple cider vinegar 1tbs in 500 ml you can use as a conditioner after just poor it over your head and then rinse under the shower to avoid smelling like a pickle :-)

Eve! *pounce* How are you hun!? I was thinking of you the other day.

Bicarb and baking soda are the same thing. Baking powder is the one that's different, it is bicarbonate of soda and cream of tartar.

Hi there oooh you changed your screen name miss Dragonfly!

Yes all good here, coping with winter at the moment :-)

Yes I did mean baking Soda not baking powder.... confusing things even more.
Oh by the way I did do the paste on dry hair last night wow what a difference that makes, feels nice and clean now.

Thanks for all the advise

Just wanted to tell my little hair tale. It's been a month now since I last washed it with shampoo, and I'm not looking back!

I had been meaning to try it for a while, but didn't have the courage, since my hair is extremely fine/thin, and has been since I was a teenager. I have been washing it with shampoo every single day pretty much since then because it would look greasy instantly if I didn't. I used 'natural' organic shampoos, but still…

Anyway, last month I went on a 5 day trip to Melbourne, and forgot to bring shampoo. I decided not to buy any, and since it was cold, I could just wear a hat. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that my hair did not get particularly greasy, and washing it just with water seemed to do the trick. So when I got home, I just kept at it, and my hair very quickly started looking thicker, and wasn't greasy if I rinsed it every day. My hair looks healthier and thicker, and I am happy! I was expecting to go through a horrible period of terribly greasy hair, and hat wearing, but that didn't happen yet. Fingers crossed!

How is everyone else's shampoo free experiment going? FreedomB, still at it?
