I'm wondering if it is ok nutritionally to make up a big lot of juice that will last me a few days.  Does it lose nutrients if left to sit for any amount of time?  I'm trying to get out of cleaning the juicer 4 times a day.

Cheers

Hi Deme, it can depend on your juicer. I juice daily and then store my juice in glass bottles which I put stoppers in to make it air tight. Doing this I can keep my juice for two days before it tastes different. Yummmm! I bought some mineral water to get the bottles. Works well!

It really depends on your juicer type and model.

The juice from most of the common juicers on the market won’t last long, in reality it is more like a matter of minutes, rather than hours.

Specialised models like the Oscar Vital Max can keep the nutrients alive for 48 hours but only if you store the juice correctly once extracted. But it is not the same taste as fresh.

I use my Oscar Vital Max four or five times a day and it is a joy to clean,

I have actually timed myself – it takes me around 90 seconds to dismantle, wash and put the thing back together again.

Hi Deme,
'Choice' have done a study of juicers, where they tested the cold press juicer and the centrifugal juicer.  The tests showed that the cold press juice kept better, loosing less nutrients than the centrifugal juicer after storing in the fridge for 12 hours. It did not mention whether the juices kept longer than that, however the full article may do.  It is available on the choice web site.   The juice did not discolour either.  I saw this on a web site some where but cannot recall where it was.  The company showed the video of the test.  It was an OZ company.
Personally, I juice every day for smoothies , but  two times per week I prepare juice at night because we leave home at 6:00am the next morning.  I put juice into the blender bowl and store it in the fridge.  I prepare the fruits to go into the juice and have the containers ready on those nights.  In the morning i blend the ingredients(juice and fruits)  and pour into the containers, rinse out the blender and fly.  On the other days, we juice about 750ml and make a huge smoothie with it, the whole process takes about 20 mins.  I pre wash all veg after purchase and store in the fridge to make fruit prep easier and quicker.
We juice, blend and wash up all within that 20 mins.
Glass jars are good storage.  I use tupperware for my take away meals but I prefer glass at home.
Hope this helps

Hi Deme,

The second you cut an apple it starts to oxidise- the same goes with juice! It is best to always make juice when you wish to consume it- however sometimes I will consume it up to 6 hours later- just give it a shake- I'm sure it's still good for you! I don't use an extractor though anymore- too much waste. I just through everything in my vita-mix- the seeds, cores, peels and all the precious fibre- no waste at all! I also put in oats, flaxseeds nuts etc. I just rinse it and I'm done.  Easy! Regards, Dan. yahh
