Title: Columbia, Missouri - Let's Start a Raw Food Club
Post by: Pamrose on Friday 22 December, 2006
Hi,

I live in Columbia, Missouri and would like to meet others in my area interested in making and eating raw food meals.

I'm eating about 80% of my food raw and feeling much better for it.

I live in Chillicothe - a couple of hours away to the west of Columbi.  I don't know a soul who is raw other than myself.

I am currently mostly raw, but do eat out with my husband occasionally and have some cooked with him.  He is becoming more raw as the days go by though.  When I met him he referred to me as a bunny rabbit (to many fruits and veggies) and his raw and fresh fruits and veggies was nearly non-existent.  He eats tons of fresh and cooked veggies now.  His cholesterol panel came back simply horrible though and we needed to do something.  Triglycerides 313, HDL 30, LDL 60, total cholesterol 205.  Very bad.  I have tossed out the sugar, wheat products and dairy while he is out of town on business this week and piled the fridge full of fruits and veggies and for him fish and non-red meats.  (and now keep an electronic monitor in our bathroom to check his cholesterol weekly until we see good results) He is loving the nut mylks and every night we have replaced his big dish of icecream with giant fruit slushes that he absolutely loves.  He does not eat meat every day though, so at least that is good.  (So long as I replace it with something he likes that is fresh anyway.)  Oh, and he really loves cheesecake and enjoys the raw ones as well.  He will never be 100%, but the past 3 weeks have been such a huge improvement -- I am very thankful.  He is only 35 - way to young to go down that path of bad health when for him it is not rocket science, food and exercise is a key factor with his particular problem.  We've been together for over 14 years and he has always been such a treat.  Need to take care of him so I can keep him around a lot longer!

We tend to go to KC (City Market and the Asian Market next door) but may start going to St. Louis (Sappington's) as well.  And really, for me to go to Columbia once in a while is not terribly far.  Let me know what you think or have planned.  I am all ears.  Have you gotten any other email responses?

Thanks!  I just drool when I read all of your posts with all of those amazing fruits that I have never even heard of.  I tried Durian this summer - unfortunately my family now has disallowed it in the house.  Heheh.  I was not particularly fond of it though. I really want to like it --- will try it again one of these days when I find an alternate source.  The smell was overwhelming and it was soooo sweet.  Almost like sugar.  The aftertaste was quite strong also.  Maybe my tastebuds just needed some fine tuning and refining as I have not been following raw all that long.

Trying to convince hubby to start an around the world adventure with the family.  A different country each year so that I can taste them all!  He insists he is not flying to another country just for the fruit....   ah, well,.....will just have to bribe him with some ancient ruins or something like that.

Nice to meet you and thanks for the welcome!
