Title: Hemp Oil not for oral use in Australia Post by: No-Frontiers on Friday 16 March, 2007 i bought some cold pressed Hemp Oil in a Health Shop a few weeks ago and read some days ago the alert ''Not for Oral use in Australia"...
Does someone knows why that? Is that just a way of letting the product be in the Australian market as Massage Oil because of the Laws or has it other reasons? The product i bought comes from China and is organic certified and can be used as Massage and Oral Use (outside Australia)... Many thanks, Iv Title: Re: Hemp Oil not for oral use in Australia Post by: FreedomB on Friday 23 March, 2007 Hey Ivan, I am pretty sure that the only reson that warning is there is because hemp oil is still illegal for human consumption in Australia. I know there are people on this board who have consumed the hemp oil and had no negative side effects, I have also talked to a lady who owns a hemp shop (selling clothing, body care products etc) who said that there would be nothing wrong with eating it.

Australia is the last (I believe) 1st world country still to deem hemp illegal as a food. One day maybe we'll catch up. In Canada and the USA it's everywhere... even in popular mainstream cereals. I would love to get my hands on the actual seed and make some mylk but I know it's going to be a looooooooooong time before that happens. I haven't tried the oil yet but am looking at getting some just so i can also add them to the lotions and balms that I make.

Title: Re: Hemp Oil not for oral use in Australia Post by: Sweetpea on Friday 14 September, 2007 Eating hemp seeds in the UK is legal, they are sold in most High Street health food stores. In fact, I believe they are pretty much legal everywhere in the Western world.
Apparently (according to Dr Gillian McKeith from “you are what you eat” fame) hemp seeds are absolutely exceptional sources of essential fatty acids and zinc. I feel the major problem in Australia with hemp seeds is their connection to marijuana. I believe the Australian government won’t legalise the consumption of hemp seeds, hemp powder or hemp oil because they fear it is only one step away from the legalisation of marijuana. Honestly, what exactly do they think I will do with the hemp seeds? Try to smoke them!! As a responsible adult, I am quite aware of the difference between eating hemp seeds for positive health reasons and smoking marijuana from a crude home made bong. It really makes me very angry to be treated as a child (what a nanny state we are becoming) by the Australian government. Given the current drought Australia is experiencing (and the decline of the Murray River due to farmer’s irrigation etc...) I would have thought the government would have embraced and encouraged legal hemp growing, since it uses so little water and can be used for so many purposes (i.e.) clothes, food, cosmetics, paper, fuel, building blocks for eco housing, etc...., etc... And if I do buy hemp seeds from the UK, am I really going to get arrested for eating them. What a joke. P.S. - Avoid Chinese hemp as they often mix it, so it is not pure. I have been told that the Body Shop (I don't know how true this is) use Chinese hemp in their hemp products. I use a hemp body butter made with Australian 100% pure virgin hemp oil and it really works on clearing dry skin, psoriasis and eczema. The Fatty Acid and Protein Connection The essential amino acids from which protein is made and the essential fatty acids (EFAs) work together in our bodies to produce life's energies. ALL ESSENTIAL FATS AND AMINO ACIDS ARE FOUND IN HEMP SEED. You just can't have one without the other. Proteins and Omegas 3 and 6 combine through metabolic process to form lipoproteins, a whole family of organic compounds that make up every part of our bodies. Lipoproteins form the haemoglobin in our blood and are responsible for moving fats throughout our body. Every one of these elements are made from amino acids and essential fatty acids. Without the correct balance, the cells in our bodies don't form right! It is so important to balance Essential Fats and Proteins. Getting enough protein and fat isn't a problem. Most people actully consume too much protein and/or fat. The key is the quality of proteins and quality of fats we consume and the amounts as one can overdose on either causing toxicity. This has been known for over a hundred years. A researcher by the name of Lebedow in 1888 discovered when he fed dogs either 100% protein or 100% fat or nothing. The dogs fed concentrated diets actually began to die before the dogs fed nothing. A balance of healthy Protein and Omegas must work together to perform their magic. Hemp Seed contains all known essential fats and all know essential amino acids for protein production currently known to us. Additionally, the ratios of amino acids and essential fats found in Hemp Seed is considered to be suitable for long term use. Stress, Essential Fats and Amino Acids (Proteins) Dealing with stress in a positive way is physically assisted by a healthy protein/fat connection. The chemistry of this union is the catalyst for life energy flow. As we enter stressful situations, our metabolism and energy needs increase; leading to a need for an increase in essential nutrients also. In a busy, fast moving society, stress is applied from many directions and in many ways. Our bodies are uniquely designed to cope with stress on ever increasing levels, and a healthy body maintains a reserve of potential energy for such stressful periods. Unfortunately, the same circumstances that cause stress, also reduce our ability to eat healthily. It just never occurs to us that the symptoms may be caused by an internal chemical imbalance. Starting with the essential fats and amino acids will assist your body to handle the daily stresses. Functions of Essential Fatty & Amino Acids found in Hemp Seed: Improve energy levels, stamina and recovery from fatigue Make skin soft and velvety and help with acne, psoriasis and eczema Help weight loss by increasing metabolic rate Help in healing of wounds and injuries Improve the symptoms of ADHD Improve mineral transport and mineral metabolism Transport cholesterol, lower high blood pressure and decrease risk of unwanted clots in arteries Assist with premenstrual mood changes Curb cravings for sugar, and junk food fats Improve the functions of all the organs and glands Assist in brain development and adult brain function |
