Miss G., that's awesome you want to go again next year -- you must've had a blast! Title: Re: Raw Spirit Festival - California USA - October 12-14 2007 Post by: missgiggles on Sunday 18 November, 2007 Hi Rosal,
Yes it was phenomenal in more ways than I can describe. I will definitely be going again next year. And I loved the photos from the Green Fest of you, Narz, Jamie and Ari. Narz posted a number of them - the black & white one of you, Jamie and Narz is glorious. You should try and make it to Raw Spirit next year - Seb can take you for another twirl. miss g Title: Re: Raw Spirit Festival - California USA - October 12-14 2007 Post by: Rosal on Sunday 18 November, 2007 Miss G., wow, that's impressive you're planning on going again!
I'll definitely consider it. Being here in California, there are a variety of raw activities, events, etc. that I'm more apt to just get my raw fun here. However, if I'm free next year, I'll definitely go. Just saw Seb in SF at a "Green" event (the Green Fest) -- we didn't get to dance this time. Just briefly caught up. Talk to ya' later, Rosal Title: Re: Raw Spirit Festival - California USA - October 12-14 2007 Post by: missgiggles on Sunday 18 November, 2007 Not too impressive. When I set my mind to something, and with a heart in total directed focus, I become a manifesting demon! -_-
Yes, you guys are almost spoiled for choice on raw activities and events. And the health food stores!!!! OMG. I seriously contemplated just quietly unrolling my swag and "moving in" to a quiet corner of New Frontiers in Sedona. I loved that place. The funniest thing was, after 3 days at the festival, I needed to get batteries for my camera, and I went into Safeway and came back out within 2 minutes because it was just too overwhelming. Zack was sweet enough to run in and do the deed. As a native, he was in and out in the same amount of time, but with the goodies. I don't think he quite understood why I was such a scaredy cat in a grocery store. Title: Re: Raw Spirit Festival - California USA - October 12-14 2007 Post by: Rosal on Monday 19 November, 2007 Hi Miss Giggles, actually I should've put it more this way...that it was impressive that a raw food event would draw someone from a distant country back 2 or more times in a row....makes me think -- hmmm, maybe there's something to this event after all (well, there's actually a LOT to this event but I mean enough for me personally to invest in the trip. Well ya' never know...) ;)
I've heard Sedona is a beautiful place. I have a friend who went to Raw Fest and he'd consider moving there as well (in the serious/not-so-serious scheme of things). I'd consider that a place for me to live, but I'm not too excited about the fact that it's a desert (my skin's on the dry side). That's funny about Safeway. Personally, I can think of many ways it can be overwhelming, but am not sure if they're the same reasons you find them overwhelming...Did ya' mean it was so big and there were all these bizarre, colorful, plastic things with strange smells all around and tons of junk to choose from that's hiding among other junk??.... That's how I kinda' felt when I walked into a factory outlet here in the city yesterday. Found a free parking spot so I thought I'd explore this part of this city and buy a hairclip or something....Bad decision!! I had forgetten how bright, large, and how the air is irritating to the eyes, etc. Anyway, perhaps I'll see ya' next year. Title: Re: Raw Spirit Festival - California USA - October 12-14 2007 Post by: missgiggles on Monday 19 November, 2007 Oh, I see what you mean now Rosal.
It is indeed a long way to travel for a 3 day event, even when you stretch it out to 6! It's funny because the reasons that I adored the festival can also be what turns other people off. A girl that I met very briefly at my hotel, and who I had promised to send information to, commented to me in an email that: "as much as I'm convinced that a chlorophyll/sunlight/plant-based alkaline diet can not only prevent but cure so, so many of our health issues, I have to say the Raw Spirit Festival was a little much for me. I simply could not get into the whole hippy happy atmosphere." But, for me, it was the hippy happy atmosphere that I loved most of all. For me, it was like a 'coming home'. Sedona is extremely beautiful, but I absolutely hear you on the 'desert thing'. I feel it at an energetic level when I am THAT far away from the ocean, and in fact one day I had to spend hours in a pool to bring myself into 'balance'. I just can't live away from the coast - I get jittery being away from water. The "Safeway Experience" was probably a couple of things - it was just after the 3 day 'love fest' -_- and was something of a step into another reality, and also it was big and daunting. I find a lot of things in the US 'big and daunting'. I am rarely in supermarkets here, but when I am it is the same one, and I know the aisles that contain the few things that I buy. So I just got a bit overwhelmed, I suppose. It didn't bode well that it took me a few attempts at various pronunciations to even have Zack understand what I was saying when I said "batteries". The Australian accent in some cases is difficult for others to understand, especially with regard to vowels. I excitedly told a few people how I had managed to score 'seconds' on a phenomenal curried coconut soup, and each thought I said I was "sickened". I might need to have elocution lessons before my next trip. Indeed!.....perhaps we shall see each other next year. Title: Re: Raw Spirit Festival - California USA - October 12-14 2007 Post by: Rosal on Monday 19 November, 2007 Ahh...yes, the atmosphere at Raw Spirit Fest. I can imagine! :)
By the way, if you haven't already been to San Francisco, you'd probably enjoy it. Especially Cafe Gratitude. I tell new people I bring there it's very "San Franciscan". :) In addition, San Francisco, to me, has a "small town" feel about it... I saw on another thread that you have their recipe book. Have you been there? There's a NY Times travel article about Cafe Gratitude and other veg/raw restaurants in San Francisco. The picture below makes the place look almost main stream! When in fact, it's typically frequented by a hippyish-fun community. Hmmm...not sure why people are wearing black in the photo -- reminds me of NYC... Here's the slideshow link for the pretty pictures: http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2007/11/18/travel/20071118_CHOICE_SLIDESHOW_index.html (http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2007/11/18/travel/20071118_CHOICE_SLIDESHOW_index.html) (http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2007/11/13/travel/18choice.6.jpg) Title: Australian Post by: Rosal on Monday 19 November, 2007 In regards to the Aussie accent, I love hearing it! Actually, I think many American's do.
That's funny you mention the vowels -- I've sometimes "noticed", if you will, the accent on this newsboard. Sometimes words with vowels are spelled with an "r'...I never knew... For example, I noticed "Whoar! or something like that (rather than what I'm used to seeing: Whoa!). Anyway, I think the "accent" is cool! Title: Re: Raw Spirit Festival - California USA - October 12-14 2007 Post by: missgiggles on Monday 19 November, 2007 I have never been to San Francisco, but it is definitely a place on my 'must see' list.
I have often heard that it is similar to Sydney, but have no idea if it is or not. Most of my gay male friends have a tale or two to tell about San Francisco, and I know all about The Castro from them. -_- And yes, when I do get there - one of my first stops shall be Cafe Gratitude. I love the whole idea behind it so much. It just tickles me that I can order from the menu saying things like "I am Radiant, please". I love it. And Michael Franti eats there! *swoon* Thanks so much for the link - it was nice to see what the restaurant looks like, especially since I am still captivated by the book. Yes, I found that the Australian accent was definitely well liked, just not readily understood at times. Title: Re: Raw Spirit Festival - California USA - October 12-14 2007 Post by: MissBliss on Monday 19 November, 2007 Neat!! sweet Neet!! BlesSings!!! Thank you for your most scrumptious words, greetings of long lost summers days, lounging in the grass, gazing up at the shapeshifting clouds...
A wordless sky of tranquil calm...mmmmhmmm.... Hi Raw Connections, the Raw Spirit Festival was so very nourishing in many ways...this following photo is of the musician Tommy Anton and I. He took fortunate festival go~ers on magical, transformative rides on a trailer aka chariot (draped with jungle cat spotted materials) towed behind his pedal powered star ship and whereby one could recline like royalty, taking in the view of the festival from a breathtaking angle... Miss G, next year I recommend climbing aboard and making yourself cosy on the reclining trailer, and watch with fascination as the grass rolls beneath you at varying speeds, behind the constant shimmering gold of the pedal pushing god in front! (http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/9905/200711140525202ue8.jpg) Rosal!! :yahh: BlesSings!!!!!! I, like MyShell, love that black and white picture of Jamie, Narz and you ~ beautiful! And Cafe Gratitude......wow! I went there too, the vibrations of, 'I am WHOLE' type thingy left me feeling so incredibly inspired....wishing for Australia to have a similar lush restaurant experience... hehe, most people didn't pick my Australian accent instead they would think that I was from England athough my accent wasn't at all british! And even just recently someone said I had an internationally flavoured accent which was hard to place, but 'twas unique and very pretty! Title: Re: Raw Spirit Festival - California USA - October 12-14 2007 Post by: Jenergy on Monday 19 November, 2007 Oh wow. I've just read this whole thread!!! I love the photos. Love them love them and the words about the festival. It looks like a must go to event. I wonder how to tie it in next year!
Miss Bliss, It's sooooo great to see you. Whatever you are doing, keep doing it. You look radiant and joyful yet calm at the same time. And you look about 14. The vibrancy of your face struck me!..... in a good way of course! xoxoxox Title: Michael Franti Post by: Rosal on Tuesday 20 November, 2007 Miss Bliss, another awesome "portrait" photo - I like how your photos have a unique touch about them. That's awesome you went to Cafe' Gratitude and experienced California - I'm excited for you that you got to do a lot it seems while here in the U.S. Exciting!! I don't think I know Tommy Anton (is he related to actress Susan Anton by chance? He kind of reminds me of her from what I remember of her).
Miss G., that's cool that Sydney and San Francisco have been compared to each other. Cool!... Ah, Michael Franti! (http://blogs.sfweekly.com/shookdown/band_michael_1photo.jpg) I haven't seen him perform yet but I caught a snippet or two of his songs on a website not too long ago - it sounded smooth. I like the world-reggae type sounds he has in some of the songs I heard. Not too long ago, he was playing at a free concert "(Power to the Peaceful Festival") at Golden Gate Park. I would've gone, but somehow never made it over. There were about 60,000 people there. Next time. ;) I'll keep a look out for him next time I'm Cafe' Gratitude though. Hey Jen, now I remember the Australian word that was new to me ... you used it on a recent post: "kwor!" I interpret it as whoa!, wow! and/or Holy Guacamole! Is that right? Title: Re: Raw Spirit Festival - California USA - October 12-14 2007 Post by: missgiggles on Tuesday 20 November, 2007 Rosal - thank you!!!! That is a glorious photo of the Franti man. *swoon*
Have you seen his dvd "I Know I'm Not Alone", where he travels through Iraq? It is just exquisite. I'm a little (ok, a lot) biased when it comes to Michael Franti & Spearhead - he could record the contents of the phone book, and I would probably put it on my iPod. Power to the peaceful! Title: Re: Raw Spirit Festival - California USA - October 12-14 2007 Post by: VegiesMakeMeSmile on Tuesday 20 November, 2007 Hey Jen, now I remember the Australian word that was new to me ... you used it on a recent post: "kwor!" I interpret it as whoa!, wow! and/or Holy Guacamole! Is that right? In case Jen doesn't see your question Rosal... Yup that sure is what 'kwor' means lol 'phwoar' means the same - perhaps even more so actually. You do well to cope with us all, I know we're practically separated by a common language. The UK has differences again! All adds to the interest doesn't it? Love May Title: Re: Raw Spirit Festival - California USA - October 12-14 2007 Post by: MissBliss on Tuesday 20 November, 2007 Why thank you, MadamRosal!! I love and am deeply appreciative of hearing artistic interpretations!
What a mouth watering journey that sliding show of piccies was....heavens! -_- Oh my poor tastebuds, tortured with the titilating, tantalising treats gifted from those of tremendous talent! Yes indeed it was exciting to experience Raw America with Cafe Gratitude being my first Raw Restaurant visited. However, the restaurant itself didn't look at all like that picture you posted above :uhuh: Maybe that is an old picture... Cafe Gratitude immediately impressed me, as being a place that I could spend some considerable time at. Alternatively enjoying being both, an eager and active participant with the consuming of the most delicious, degustatory delights imaginable and also the silent observer of others totally smitten, lost completely within rapture. Medinah and I devoured these spring rolls... and yes! I am Bliss....... (http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/1135/img2584lv9.jpg) oh Rosal, I am not sure about that connection with the actress Susan Anton...I'll let you know if there is...I have a feeling there may be....that is a hunch....nothing certain.... Quote Miss Bliss, It's sooooo great to see you. Whatever you are doing, keep doing it. You look radiant and joyful yet calm at the same time. And you look about 14. The vibrancy of your face struck me!..... in a good way of course! xoxoxox Oh my Gosh!!! Jen!! Thank you! It is so wonderful to receive your words of excitement over seeing me! Thank you so much for sharing your enthuiasm and sight, I do appreciate your openness and love it always rushes from you in heavenly bursts of stardust. It is wonderful to hear that not only the radiant vibrancy is clearly seen, but also that a sense of calm and peace is evident alongside the spark! Soon we shall be sharing some sunny summer fruits....mmmmmmm :rose: Title: Re: Raw Spirit Festival - California USA - October 12-14 2007 Post by: Jenergy on Tuesday 20 November, 2007 Hi Rosal,
You are right. Thanks May! I actually got the 'Kwor' from May. I love it! It's one of my favourite words right now. I also like munted which doesn't really have a meaning. I just throw it around when I can't find a word. The word you have when you don't have a word!!! Miss Bliss, I am really really really looking forward to meeting you. I do believe that you might just be one of the most in tune with yourself people that I've unmet here! I do love my summery fruits. Had some peaches today that were summery yummery and mango.... yummmm! Time for summer sunshine pudding I do believe my dear! Big hugs... xoxoxox Title: Re: Raw Spirit Festival - California USA - October 12-14 2007 Post by: Rosal on Wednesday 21 November, 2007 Ah, so it's Miss May havin' fun with all the words! ;) Hi May! Yup, "phwoar!" is the other word I've seen....I haven't heard "munted" ... my "Australian" is expanding. :) Yes, variety is the spice of life...I like learning new words as well.
Miss Bliss, there are 4 Cafe' Gratitudes in the Greater Area...And there are 2 in San Francisco within a few miles of each other...Perhaps you were in a different location than the one shown in the picture? The one in the picture is the first Cafe' Gratitude that was built in SF. Yeah Cafe' Gratitude has a nice vibe. And that's cool you (and also Miss G) met up with other raw folks here in the U.S. (I remember Medinah and Zack from the raw cyber world). Great dinner picture (or piccie as I've heard the word used on this board ;) ) of some live food! *~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Pic of Susan Anton below... (http://www.superiorpics.com/hs/susan_anton/main1.jpg) Title: Re: Raw Spirit Festival - California USA - October 12-14 2007 Post by: VegiesMakeMeSmile on Wednesday 21 November, 2007 LOL Rosal - you are pretty phwoar and kwor yourself you know.
Yes, I love to translate the American/English/Australian languages. There are a few words we can each get ourselves in trouble with in the other countries. Munted is more a derogatory word and I take its meaning to be along the lines of 'mutant, distorted, screwed up, not nice'. But anyway, this isn't Raw Spirit so I won't do you a list.
