Title: 3 day water fast
Post by: BerryBliss on Friday 20 July, 2007
Next week I am going to do  a 3 day water fast, begining Friday 27th -ending on Monday 30th. (last meal thursday)I am really looking forward to seeing how my body reacts and how I feel, mentally, emotionally and physically. Hopefully it will be a fantastic experience and will lead to longer fasts in the future.  Are any of you beautiful people wanting to join me?
We can work up to it, and talk about how we are preparing and eating...what we will be doing and how we are feeling. You dont have to do the whole 3 days, 1/2 a day, 1,2 3 days...whatever, it is all about encouraging and talking together, sharing ideas and experiences...so...who is with me?

Love ya all

Hey BB! Oh I love a good fast! I usually do it once a week/fortnight for a day so I probably won't join u (never say never though) I will definitely give it some thought..
A great website to go on for extra incentive and info is www.freedomyou.com, it helped me heaps when I did my water fasts.  Since going raw I have done a couple of 5 day water fasts and experienced dramatic changes both mentally & physically...also decided to change my name during one!
It's going to be awesome BB, prepare to reap some amazing rewards!
p.s- I posted about my experiences fasting in this section somewhere if u are interested XX

Sounds good to me BB. I will do Thurs/Fri on GS,  Sat/Sun on water, Mon on GS.

Tomorrow I am on GS for two days, looking forward to that. I did a 19day GS challenge in my first month of raw and I really believe that it was the main reason I didn't have cravings or any real desire for cooked foods. Definitely time for a GS and water fast.

EXCELLENT site beautiful Freelearaw...thankyou so much for suggesting it, goes along pretty much with what I believe and will add so much more depth to my fast...I will study it more in the morning.

I now will JUICE fast 3 days before: Tuesday - Thursday
Then 3 days water: Friday - Sunday
Then 3 days JUICE: Monday - Wednesday

I really need to do this, my body NEEDS this and my spiritual needs to be set alight...

So glad you are joining me with your fasting too Dragonfly...looking forward to growing with you.

Love BB

Awesome idea, BerryBliss.

Sometimes I wonder about the synchrinosities in life, I had just decided last night to start a 3 day juice fast today, then I wake up and yours is one of the first posts I see here.

I thought that a water fast would be too hard on me, since I have not fasted before the idea of a juice fast definitely appealed. Thankyou Freelea for the link to the wonderful fasting website, I'll be reading up on the information they give to keep myself motivated.

Started today drinking water with lime juice in it.  Still wasn't feeling anything near hungry at noon (when I had planned to start juicing), so kept up on the water with lime until 4pm.  Just made a carrot-celery-apple juice which is wonderfully sweet and refreshing.  Still wondering when 'hunger' will start talking to me & trying to dissuade! Hopefully not until Tuesday, lol.

Will see how I go this weekend and following week, perhaps I can join you all next weekend as well :)

hey BB, I'll give it a shot, but I can't promise to make it trough! :P also have a couple of q: 1. how much water (in litres) do you drink in average a day during a waterfast? 2. how long till the hunger goes away approx? TIA

Welcome aboard the fasting boat everyone, I am so excited that we are going to be doing this together, sharing and motivating when it gets tough...I am really looking forward to "after" the fast...seeing the difference in how I feel and look.

Rudolf...err, I dint think I am ready to do a guts wash...for now I just want to fast, perhaps next time round, I will do one with you, please do let us all know how you went and how you feel during and after, I am very interested.

Way to go Waterberry on starting your own fasting, amazing isnt it how long you can go without food and not feel hunger...water witrh lime juice sounds yummy, I love water with lemon and mint...will probaby drink that during my water fasting...and just basic juice during my juice fast...have looked up that site that Freelearaw recommended and they say it is good to alternated between juice and water fasting...I would really love to do a 30 day fast...I will see how I go with next weekend, I feel deep within that this is going to be a life changing experience...just my internal feeling "gut" feeling!
Stine, so glad you will be joining us, you dont have to go 3 days, just listen to your body and see how you feel, even a 24 hour fast is excellent. I dont know how much water you should drink...or when hunger sets in...I think everyone would be different. For me I am aiming to drink no less than 2 litres of juice/water...if I can, then more. Dont know when hunger will set in, gotta think of some ideas to keep myself busy when that time comes...although with kiddies there is always something to do.

I am going to still keep up my walking every day, I was planning on begining a run next week, until I had the urge to fast...so I will begin my running regime after the fast.

Awesome to have you all aboard...and Waterberry keep us posted on what you are doing and feeling...so happy for you that things are working well so far...keep it up, the benefits outweigh the hunger...

Love ya all

Heya, thankyou for the lovely encouragement Miss Bliss :)

Stine - I think you should be aiming to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water at least. More if you feel you need it. If you have less than that you could be susceptible to feeling thirsty, which comes across most of the time as feeling hungry - and that could make things more difficult for you!

Okay... an update on what I'd been doing and feeling for day 1: drinking juice to my hearts content!
water with lime until 4pm, then a glass of juice pretty much hourly: carrot-celery-apple x2, fresh squeezed orange, pear-apple-kiwi. I finished the pear juice by 8pm and am just having water before bedtime. I've been sipping at the juices rather than drinking them down. It is taking me between 40 and 60 minutes to finish a glass. On the website Freelea mentioned it says to 'chew' your juice - to make sure each mouthful is incorporated with your saliva to make digestion even easier, so that is what I have been doing. How I have felt?  Firstly surprised that I have only been a little bit hungry, haven't had any stomach growls ;).  Secondly, I have felt very elated and excited at times.  I think some of the juices were very invigorating and that I am just purely happy that I am doing something good for my body instead of ignoring its health.  I was actually singing earlier today because I felt so happy, hehe.

2nd day of my juice fast is coming to an end.

Last night I had difficulty sleeping, awoke 4 times which was strange because I usually sleep well.  Stomach wasn't really growling, but making little gurgling noises at me.  Bladder was full at one stage too, obviously juice takes a bit longer to go through than just water which I usually drink - as I stopped drinking a few hours before bedtime.

I woke feeling somewhat hungry, so drank juice from morning until thisevening, every hour or two. Drank 9 glasses of juice all up. 4 from the juicer being: carrot-celery-apple-cucumber, pineapple-orange-sweet potato, pineapple-mango-orange-carrot, carrot-celery-apple, 1  coconut water, and 4 glasses of unpasteurised pressed apple juice* that I defrosted overnight.  Have been enjoying the juice immensely, still surprised how good it all tastes when fresh - although the carrot-cellery-apple-cucumber one was a bit icky tasting.  Am experiencing some hunger for the first time tonight; and have had numerous random cravings for dates/seeds/coconut flesh through the day.  Emotions have been very stable today.

There have been competing little voices in my head - one saying to break the fast tomorrow morning - one saying to continue it as long as I can with no plans, just to see how it goes - and one saying to finish the intended 3 days and feel the achievement of doing what I set out to do.  I do think I would like to continue to see what a state of detox is like, I had expected this to be more difficult from the beginning for some reason; and am feeling that because the juice fast is so easy so far, that I am not doing it properly or for long enough?  Not sure exactly what I was expecting, apart from more obvious signs of detox!

* This would have to be the best apple juice I have ever tasted - made from granny smith & johnathan varieties. It's pressed annually at a yarra valley winery, using a huge antique cider press - they make 200L in about 15 minutes, and a crowd gathers to watch.  I think they do this 6 times over a weekend - thats a lot of juice!  They run it through their wine cooling system to instantly bring the temperature down to 4 degrees, then pump it straight into huge oak barrels for decanting into bottles for people to buy. Yum. Now I can't wait until next year to buy more :)

Hi Rudolf, yes I am from Melbourne!

The winery is called Kellybrook Winery, and the address is Fulford Road, Wonga Park. (No street number, but it is well signed). It's about a 50 minute drive out of the city, mostly on the Eastern Freeway.

The cider festival is on the first weekend of May every year, when the apples are fresh.  It's really worth going just to stock up on juice, nice grounds to picnic on too - or just show up near the end of the day to buy juice & they don't charge you the admission price:  http://www.kellybrookwinery.com.au/ciderfestival.htm gives good information.

Hey there, I decided to start my fasting early too, this morning I woke up to a big glass of rain water followed by a carrot, apple orange juice. 2 big glass fulls, I wasnt hungry to begin with, but it just helped me feel like I had "eaten", drank quite a bit of water in between and just now, I made a spinnach, apple, carrot and celery juice, beautiful green, a big bottle full, slowing making my way throught that. I have been out walking to school and shops, then home and kindy and park/creek and then home, busy doing house work and soon I will have to head out walking to pick up little chickens from kindy and school!, such a beautiful warm day here in adelaide to be outdoors walking.

How I am feeling?...well I feel fantastic, not hungry one bit, no dizziness just pure bliss...so far so good!...will post more tonight.

Glad your GS weekend went well dragonfly, what an inspiration!...lucky husband eh...lol...I must get my hubby to drink a few GS too then!...

Stine, no prob...when your time comes around.we will be here to support ya babe!...have a safe and happy holiday.

Waterberry, well done on your achievement so far, your juices sound so yummy and that apple juice sounds delish.
I think you should finish the three days,...just a few more hours, you will feel fantastic that you accomplished what you set out to...that being said...this is only my first day!!

Either way, two days does wonders for your body and you should be pround of yourself. Thankyou so much for sharing your experience with us...look forward to reading more.

Rudolf...you were thinking like me, I started early too, just beacuse my body was crying out for a fast...a good cleanout, perhaps one day soon I will do a proper clean out like you. It is nice to read that you have had the motivation to do this for your body, and that you are feeling great...what an exapmple you are!
Hey i didnt think of drinking tea, I love peppermint, and I also have some cleansing tea, whick I might drink later tonight. I think it will get a little hard for me as the days go by, because I am head chef in the home...have to prepare everyones food...I WILL be strong!.

Hey I have noticed something, just clicked lastnight...whenever I eat nuts...(almonds, walnuts, pinenuts and cashews),,,I get headaches and dizzy spells and a tightening in my chest...have you heard of this before?

Well done everyone, I am so glad we are doing this together!

Hey Tulip...you need the biggest hug right now...wish I was there to give you a comforting hug and a listening ear...be strong sis, you need to be strong, and when it all boils down to it, you are your childs mother, YOU see your child all day YOU know better than any specialst what your child is capable of...I think, just give it time, every child is different, there is no time line of when and where they should be doing things...your little one is enjoying being a baby...so what, you sweet chicken will catch up in time, I know many children who were far behind and now...they are fine. Breathe in, and feel a gentle hug on the breeze for you.

As for my day, I have had the best day ever, lots of walking in the warm sunshine and plenty of happy moments with the kiddies. I am not the least bit hungry or feeling physically drained. Tonight I made the most delish green smoothie...you must try this one is is really good...drank a whole litre and a half!

2 bananas
4 oranges (just the juice)
big handful of BABY spinnach (the big spinnach is too bitter for me in a smoothie)
and some coconut water
thick slice of pineapple

Vitamize all this and add enough water to be a thin drink.

I am feeling so good, resisted pecking at the cooked dinner that I had made everyone else, was quite satisfied with my drink...feeling fantastic that I got throught this day.

Tomorrow I will drink water all day.

Pinktulip, about the carrot soup...do whatever you feel, there is no hard set rule, it is up to you and your body...everyone is different and does what is right for them, if it is carrot soup you ant...well go for it, we shall call it carrot smoothie!!...just add a little more water.
The main thing here is, just doing what you feel is right for you body, not following any hard fast rule, learning form eachother and encouraging...we are all different and thats what makes us so special.

Looking forward to reading about all your greens!

Post by: waterberry on Tuesday 24 July, 2007
Hi again, Thankyou so much BB for the encouragement given yesterday to complete my 3rd day of the juice fast, it was very helpful for me to continue.  It is good that you have started early - when your body is telling you to fast, you might as well go with it.  I think that your determination will be stronger because you haven't made yourself wait and dwell on it for longer.

Yesterday I think I started some form of detox. Seemed to have very little energy, got dizzy in the shower, woke up with a bad metallic taste in my mouth that needed to be rinsed & spat out (no way was I swallowing that rancid mouth water). I'm um.. starting to smell bad and have bad breath too.  Later in the evening I had sharp cramps in the right side of my torso, then later in my stomach. Also had some gas.  Sleeping was difficult as I became itchy!  On the good side of things, I was still finding the juices delicious, and not feeling hunger to eat food.  Also I noticed that I no longer have any mucous in my nose - previously to this I have been sniffling for 4 weeks trying to shake a cold that did not want to go away.

Because I had less energy, I decided to juice all of the fruits & vegetables for my day in the morning so I did not have to follow a juice -> clean juicer -> drink -> rest for 15 minutes -> juice again neverending regime as I did the day before. I juiced groups of things together & kept them in seperate containers in the fridge to mix up different concoctions from during the day.  I jucied 1 orange and 1/4 of a pineapple together,  3 carrots and 2 celery sticks together, 3 pears and a nashi together.  This, with the 1L of pressed apple juice made up 10 glasses of juice for the day.

Rudolf, thankyou for the information you have given on saltwater cleansing.  I was a bit reluctant to try it at the start of my fast, mainly because it is my first fast and I wanted it to be a pleasant experience, and the cleansing sounded, well, slightly gross ;).  I am thinking I will try it today as the end of my fast.  I know it is already 10.30am and not really 'first thing in the morning', but I have been on nothing but liquids since Friday evening, and thismorning have drank only water.  Just waiting to get enough dutch courage to drink that water warm with salt in it.  I have done yoga before so I will be doing the exercises with it:

This site has pictures of the 4 yoga exercises near the bottom of the page, for anyone interested:
http://www.yogameditation.com/articles/issues_of_bindu/bindu_8/intestinal_cleansing

Pinktulip it's so lovely to have you fasting with us too :)  It is definitely a great thing to have others to share the experience with.  Yesterday my energy was so low that I did not post on the forum, but just reading this thread with others experiences & advice was so helpful.

I am thinking that I will not break my fast until the afternoon of today after my cleansing has completely finished. I am aiming for around a 90 hour fast.  I have clarified within myself the reasons I had wanted to continue this fast for longer than I had planned to - because I knew that the benefits of not consuming bad foodstuffs were good for me & that I wanted to complete my detox & start a fresh life.  But then I paused to consider how I am planning to break this fast - I do not plan to start eating bread, meat, dairy, cooked meals.  I plan to start with a mono-meal of bananas.  Then a simple lettuce-avocado salad for dinner.  Very simple meals, tomorrow will be my 4th day of 100% raw,  I will be trying out some of the recipes from the forum that have inspired me.  I will try to continue on 100% raw for as long as I can, perhaps even completing the 30 day challenge!  So yes, that nullified my want of continuing the juice fast longer - because with the diet I plan, I think that my detox will continue but at a slower more manageable pace.  Besides, I can always attempt another 3 day fast next weekend too.

How did everyone go with fasting today?  I hope well.

Title: Re: 3 day water fast

Well I failed allready. Yesterday was a very emotional day (yes I know that is an excuse) but I had pizza for dinner. I dont know if my body is ready to do a juice fast but I will give it another try today and see how we go. That is my biggest problem when everyone else is having pizza (my fav food from cooked days) I just crumble and give in. There is still some in the fridge and it is taking all my might not to eat it.

So I think yes I will try again today and see how I go. Tonight will be a lot better cause it will just be normal food for dinner and that doesnt turn me on at all. So lets start it today I was really tired though yesterday maybe cause I cried most of the morning (bloody men (sorry to rudolf and the other men here)).

Yippe a juice feast yummy.

Awww pinktulip, I'm sorry to hear that you were having a bad emotional day (((((((((((hug))))))))))).

I was lucky enough to have the house all to myself for the first day I started, did not have to watch anyone else eat food, especially favorite foods - I am sure that would just be too much of a temptation for anyone.

Goodluck for today, see - you haven't failed at all because you're already jumping right back into it!

I should also say that my saltwater cleanse did not go as planned.  I could not drink more than 2 glasses full, as it was making me so nauseous.. ugh.  I tried, really I did, but I was afraid I was going to throw the whole lot up.  The two glasses I got down did go through me within an hour, so I at least showed myself how it works.

Hey everyone, sorry yesterday I did not post, (day 2) was so busy, and then when the kiddies went to bed...so did I, I was so tired.

So yesterday I water fasted all day, felt fantastic, still didnt feel any hunger, went to the toilet 3 times during the day, body was expelling waste and cleaning out. Towards the evening I had slight dizziness, I overcame this by having 2 glasses of mint water with a little agave in it, and the headache went away after a while.

It was hard in the evening, I still wasnt hungery, but I had cooked a rissotto for the family, everyoner was munching away so yummily at it ...and I felt like I wanted to join in, as I was sitting there feeding the lil chicken, and drinking my glass of water, I let my mind wander to some ripe bananas I had in my room, I ate one and a slice of pineapple, apple and orange...felt so nice to eat something solid and my taste buds felt like they savoured every moment of pure sweetness and freshness. Ended the night with a few stomach cramps and another BM.

Today (Day 3) woke up with a nice big glass of water, and made a 2 litres of green smoothie:

baby spinnach
2 bananas
thick slice pineapple
Durian
juce of 4 oranges
coconut water and enough water to make 2 litres.

I will continue to drink this throughout the day as well as water...so continuing the juice fasting. Tomorrow will be day 4 and I will be water fasting.

I am amazed that I still have not felt "hunger" and that I have felt quite well...be great if I can keep this up for a month...I will see how I go.

I have noticed that I have lost weight since going 100%  raw and now with fasting I expect results, I am still exercising, walking most of the time, will incorperate some weight training to, dont want to be a soggy skinned berry!

PIntulip, you didnt fail, it just wasnt your time to fast, you have good intentions, and atleast it is on your to do list, your body will let you know when the time is right, mine let me know because I was craving a fast, it was something I needed to do right at this time, and because my body wants it and I am not forcing it, it it much easier because I dont have cravings...the path is straight and I know where I need to walk.

So happy to hear your improvements Rudolf... and wonderful advice waterberry.

I will check back later.

Love BB

BerryBliss good to hear from you.  I know what you meant about being tired, I took a day off from much posting for that reason too.  It's great that you are doing so well.

I'm interested that you chose to have mint in water when you had a headache - I also go for mint to ease a headache.  Only I make a hot mug of peppermint tea & just inhale the fumes from it, maybe take just a few sips when it cools too, but it's the smell of mint that seems to ease a headache for me :)

Rudolf your progress is absolutely amazing.  It is wonderful that you are getting some instant results with loss of pain during your fast too, that would make it so encouraging to continue. Congratulations also on the weight release.  I did not mention on my fast that I also shed 1.75kg, believing it would come back after I started eating again - but only 0.5kg came back.

I was also drawn to extend my fast to 90 hours, it is indeed a special number. I am sure you can do it & have your PB fast!

I am planning to do my next fast at the change of seasons, it really was a positive experience.

I had only gs yesterday and felt awesome with that, though my calories were way too low (not actually fasting until the weekend). Today I am also having gs, but only one fruit with the greens (oranges probably). Then I will start water fast this afternoon and hopefully make it through until Monday morning. This is my first water fast since being raw, so I am excited to see the differences from when I was cooked...

I've found everyones posts here really inspiring and helpful. Thanks!

Hi Emi, your plans sound wonderful - I hope that it will be a very positive experience for you.

I think having just had GS in the lead-up will have prepared your body well for it. You would already be in a semi-fasting state with a relaxed digestion and getting used to the lower calories will hopefully lessen the possible feelings of hunger on the water fast.  Good luck & tell us how you go over the weekend :)

i can just imagine her' faaasting? why would you want to do that for? i hope you arent turning anorexic. you have to eat something. comeon, here have some of this, here *loads up a place for me* ' ......
oh gaaawwwd. why this weekend!!why?!?
i cant deal with her at the best of times..
WHAT AM I GOING TO SAY TO HER to hopefully get her off my back?!? if i had a car I could go visit a friend and tell her im eating there or something, but i dont even have a car. im stuck at home!
she does know ive had a few health concerns latey, but she will think ive gone "extreme" to try to fast it out.
and this ist he first time ive done so well, im so motivated and ive lasted 1.5days already...
ANY ADVICE??

You could start by explaining you reasons for going raw (just read your reason in the other thread), most of the time when we are open and honest with our family and close friends they then respect our decision. Show her that you have really thought about it. Then explain why you are fasting - use calm, gentle wording but show that you aren't going to change your mind.

Also, look at what you wrote above - you have already decided how she will react and how 'bad' it's going to be. Perhaps try having a conversation in your mind. Imagine that you know exactly what to say and that she responds positively and lovingly.

And at the end of the day, if she doesn't understand - you always have 'us'!!!  :ohyeah:

Goodluck!

YEAHH I finally got ot use that face~!  :nope: :nope: :nope: i love it so cute.

i just noticd that you write alot about fitness and you seem very knowelgable.

I am a qualified personal trainer, but i confess that just because i studied it, doesnt mean I agree with it.
before i got any qualifications i was a world ranked tennis player - yet had never stepped foot in a gym. I trained my mind and body hard- i ran, skipped, did footwork drills, sand sprints, bodyweight exercises. I was fit in what i think of as a "natural way"  - simply using my own body and nature ... then i go and learn about reps and sets and the whole "gym environment" and "sports nutrition" ... and well i dont really agree with what i was taught. I dont think people need to pay gym fees for the rest of their lives to stay fit.. i think its absurd that someone actually invented a machine to make us walk/run (treadmill) i mean how lazy can we get. and dont get me started on those protein "nutrition" bars.............
there are new qyms opening up every day, but people continue to get fatter and lazier - so its obviously not the answer.

thanks for that site, ill definately take a look.

I have done well today. I am proud of myself for sticking with it. I honestly wasn't sure whether I would make it through even one day! I started at 4pm yesterday, so will reach 36hrs at 4 in the morning. That was my first goal and I will reach it easily.

Rudolf, you have done so well. Reaching our PB is awesome motivation.

Seeing a sudden HUGE energy surge?
Starting to see weight lose?
The pretty much non existence of stomach?
Headache gone?
Still dark colour urine?
Sour togue?

Congratulations Rudolf! You are doing amazing and are an inspiration.

Zeus - I definitely felt more energy after drinking juices, they seem to go straight into energy without having to wait for the digestion stage.  I did lose weight, 1.75kg which normalised to about 1kg after I started eating again. Stomach was less bloated, did not notice headaches but did not have any to lose. Urine was clear, and on my second morning I had sour tongue but that was it :)  Hope that answers your questions.

Well, I lasted on water from Friday arvo, until Sunday arvo. We were out doing physical work and I broke the fast with a banana, which was so yumm! I am having gs today.

I feel really good. I did a workout this morning and it felt awesome. I felt like I could reach further, do more reps, etc. I was surprised about this because I assumed I would have quite low energy for a few days. Though, admittedly, I do have plenty of reserves... lol

How did everyone else go?

Hello!

I am on my 4th day - waterfast only and herbal tea ( horsetail and linden) - i feel Ok - quiet, focused, smiling to the world and not weak yet - tongue white and skin oily - besides that OK.
I have an intention stay on water another 4 days - but i might drink juices a little earlier - as i have to go to work - not sure how i will function.

I really like the lightness and clarity of my mind and "room"in my stomach.
Feels good
