Title: Where's The Drug Money Actually Going? Post by: Piers on Friday 07 May, 2004 According to Pills, Profits and Politics by Milton, Silverman (university of California Press) the drug industry spends more on promotion and advertising each year than it actually does on research! Even more interestingly, this is also more than the sum total of all money spent on all educational activities by all of the Medical schools in the United States to train medical students and doctors.
What's been the result of having more money spent on convincing us to take drugs than on educating doctors in the role of drugs in a healthy society so far? Great to see this raw food taking off.I got into that first after reading the Spartan Health Regime . One of the stories that really stuck was of a soldier in one of the wars , perhaps Vietnam .Or even ww2, korea. He ran into the deep forest to wait out the end. He finally emerged years after having eating nothing but the raw foods available . He was now middle aged but time had stood still whereas all his compadres were now old,fat.. Well, you have sure all gotten the idea . Great stuff. I used to think you had to be an extremist fanatic to eat as i do :)) Even Anthony Bova was impressed by my insects and grass diet. hmm That recipe book looks good :)
yes im in Australia . And i like to M-o-o-v-e . That sig. comes from the Taco song Puttin on the Ritz . xxx  -_- Title: Re: Where's The Drug Money Actually Going? Post by: Mae on Friday 11 August, 2006 That's shocking, Piers. But, it doesn't suprise me one little bit. There are a few other forums I visit and this is the FIRST that not nearly everyone pops a pill for something. Or, has problems from a bad diet and then has to resort to pills.
They obviously make more money keeping people sick. Title: Re: Where's The Drug Money Actually Going? Post by: Kimba on Saturday 16 September, 2006 Hi Everyone!!!
A very interesting and controversial topic!!! My day job I work for Pharmeceutical Benefit Scheme Authority's Line!!! For those of you who don't know what that it is , it is where "Dr's" ring up and get a subsidy so there patient's can receive the drug at a lower price rather than paying the full price for drugs.( I take around 250 calls a day) and as a call centre we receive 50000 to 60000 calls a week!! It is very sad to see what state our health as a nation is in and how much the Australian tax payer pays per year to run the PBS. Alot of the calls i receive are for people who are depressed, schizophrenic or are getting treated for high blood pressure, heart attacks type 2 diabetes and strokes. All problems which can be fixed by a simple change in diet!!! Pharmeceutical companies have no intrest in helping you get better if anything all they want to do is control the symptoms while the side effcts of the drugs slowly kick in and break down some other part of the body. They are not part of the wellness industry but the sickness industry because they only make money off you while you are sick. And here we are the tax payer paying 6 billion dollars a year to run the PBS so people can continue to eat crap and feel sorry for themselves. THe only way to beat the pharmeceutical companies is to be as healthy as possible, to educate ourselves on good nutrtion and fitness and most importantly be happy!!!!!!! ^_^. THe more people who change at an individual level an d live a happy life the less power the companies have because people are less dependent on them to keep them "alive" Kimba (organicgirl) Title: Re: Where's The Drug Money Actually Going?
