Title: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: rawfairylady on Sunday 05 August, 2007 Helloooo out there in raw land!!
I've been raw on and off for three months (trust me to find out about raw in winter!) and have been checking out this wonderful forum, just thought I'd say hi and tell you that I think you guys are all lovely. Look forward to chatting about this great way of eating/living/being! :yahh: Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: Jenergy on Sunday 05 August, 2007 Hello and welcome to the forum. I look forward to hearing more from you about your story and what questions you might have.

Newbie saying hi to another newbie. Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: rawfairylady on Sunday 05 August, 2007 Hi raw sensation, oxygen and happieraw,
Thanks for your replies, My story? Well, ok then.... I started eating raw three months ago after searching the net for a natural way to get rid of adult acne (vain, I know, I know) well, anyway, getting rid of pimples turned out to be only the tip of the iceberg. The clouds of uncertainty and indecision are lifting and I feel alive, well and incredible. YAY! I have a wonderful, meat eating, cooked foods hubby who is never critical, only supportive even though he doesn't agree, and two great kids to whom I'm feeding more raw foods, but not as yet cutting out anything. I'm sitting on around 80% raw at the moment (using the 80/20 rule) and in winter soups and cups of tea call my name, and I cannot resist - not that I make a big deal of resisting, as I'm still transitioning. Anyway, I'll post some photos soon, I love yours, raw sensation! You Go Girl! Love, light and happiness to all! Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: Jenergy on Sunday 05 August, 2007 Oh we are the same! I get adult acne too on my neck in particular. It can be very embarrassing can't it! It is getting better. I go for periods without it now and then it comes back for a bit and then it goes again! I know it will go for good soon.
My hubby is the same as yours. Gorgeous, meat eating, supportive. He did tell me a few months ago that he didn't want me to buy steak or chicken for him anymore, just sausage and mince stuff. He did a weeks raw trial a couple of months ago and this week asked me to give him more of what I'm having. He has annonced that he will go around 50% now! Where are you? I'm up the northern end of the Gold Coast. xoxoox Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: rawfairylady on Sunday 05 August, 2007 Hi Jennie,
I can't imagine my husband doing that... he's watching though- he sees me having yummy fruit for breakky, scrummy salads for lunch, sees the kids and I downing smoothies (some more green than others) and he doesn't ask for any, so I don't offer. Maybe someday he'll come round. He has sinus and allergies and I'm sure it would help if he was more raw, but that's up to him (I mustn't push, I mustn't push!!) My pimples have almost disappeared. YAY! I think what's helped also is doing dry skin brushing. I do it (gently) with my face as well, and it's made a big difference- I now bypass cleansers and toners, and use essential oils for moisturiser if i need it. I'm in Northern NSW- We're so close! Are there any get- togethers in the area? I think I read somewhere of a picnic at Byron?? Take care of you! Melissa Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: FreeleaRaw on Sunday 05 August, 2007 Hey Rawfairlady! Cool name :-)
Welcome to the community!! Yes it is hard starting raw in winter, I started at the end of last year so it wasn't too bad because I had awesome scrummy mangoes to feast on (actually that's all I ate for 2weeks at one stage!)...oh dear god mangoes where are you???!!sweeeet sweeeet mangoes...oops sorry got side-tracked for a moment.. How great is it getting rid of the pimples? I have suffered quite bad acne for most of my youth and up until I started raw. Initially on raw it didn't go as I guess my body was prioritising and cleaning up more serious internal probs but after a few months it all went. Now I only get pimples if I combine my food badly for a long period. It is really amazing the health improvements on raw. Have an enjoyable time on the forum, hope to meet you one day as I will be moving to Byron at some future stage... Lovefreexo Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: Jenergy on Sunday 05 August, 2007 *exited* I don't know about Byron but I'm trying hard to organise a Gold Coast picnic. I think it will be in Palm Beach/Tallebudgeera where the playroom used to be. I'll let you know. If you would like to be notified by email then just pm me your address.
*double exited* (((((((((((((hugs))))))))))) Free! That's so thrilling. When are you moving? Oh wow I feel so lucky! xoxoxo Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: garfield22 on Monday 06 August, 2007 Hello there raw lady,
Wishing you every success on your journey to a improved and vibrantly healthy new you! Blessings, Gx :yahh: :ohyeah:  Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: Pinky on Monday 06 August, 2007 Hi Rawfairylady (I love the name its fantastic)
Welcome to the raw community. I have on of those men in my life and I dont think he will ever eat raw food and I mean ever. He is very supportive but its just not for him. And he says I cant force it on the kids (I have 2, 2 years and 7 months) they have to make up their own mind, which I do agree with but I make sure they have fruit before biscuit (or at least the 2 year old). You have all support that you need with these wonderful ppl here. And any question just ask its so nice to know that you are not the only one going through this stuff. Love to you Rawfairylady and your family and once again welcome you will love your stay here. Angie Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: rawfairylady on Thursday 09 August, 2007 Thanks everyone!
It's so nice to hear that other people are able to stick to this great way of living even though they also have to dish up dinner to meat eaters and other non-raw family members, just like I do. We're living OUR lives aren't we- we don't have to make choices that have a negative effect on our health just so other people feel more comfortable with our way of living!? YAY go us!! Raw Sensation: Thanks, sorry I've been too busy to post back about GC picnic- I'd love to get there! will you post info on the forum? Freelearaw: Hi, make the move to Byron ASAP it is lovely!! Thanks for your post! Wishes of love, light laughter to you all XOXOXOXOXXO Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm about to start a journal- wish me luck!! Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: swami on Tuesday 14 August, 2007 Hi rawfairylady and welcome!
I'm kind of new too...I joined the forum a while ago, then fell off the wagon so badly that I had to run away and hide my head in shame. Anyway, I've come back in the last couple of days, and just started a journal yesterday! I'm on the Gold Coast too, so hopefully we'll meet at one of those raw picnics (this is the first I've heard about them as well). Good luck for your journal; I'll see you in the journal section!! Love swami xx Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: princessbee on Wednesday 15 August, 2007 welcome rawfairy, I am the prodigal royal rawness.
My partner is supportive too, but meat eating - very bad diet - but I hold out hope that he will eat more and more raw as time goes by. He is in bad shape health wise. I too started raw for vanity so don't worry about it. :) I'm exceedingly vain. Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: Jenergy on Wednesday 15 August, 2007 I used to have my eyebrows done regularly and cleanse tone moisturise every day as well as about 7 different layers of make up to make myself presentable. Now I don't do any of that. I pluck the eye brows when I get mistaken for John Howard (JHo) but that's about it. I often feel colourless and drab though and wish I had a face full of cosmetics! Does that mean I'm still vain? I don't mind vain. I'm just looking for definition I guess. Thoughts anyone?
xoxoo Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: princessbee on Thursday 16 August, 2007 missjen, many things you are but drab is not one of them!
My makeup is rarely heavy unless it's to accompany a costume or fabulous ensemble. Usually just sheer foundation, light powder. Three eyeshadows, eyeliner, mascara and lippie. I see makeup as being like a part of a mask, a costume, a theatrical presentation of oneself so I love it! I personally love it when I feel confident enough in my glowing skin, clarity of eyes and lack of shadows under them to not wear makeup but go free and have people admire my skin! :D it is awesome. Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: rawfairylady on Thursday 16 August, 2007 My makeup use is somewhere between you, Princessbee and you, Jen.
I use only eye makeup- one colour, eyeliner, mascara and lippy. And I use this most days- it's just part of the routine! When I stopped working to have my youngest daughter, I felt very drab without makeup, and started putting it on again in hospital- made me feel pretty! and something about applying it makes me feel better. Also if i need to go out or someone drops by, I'm ready! I do love not wearing foundation tho- a few years ago I would dread it, but my skin is so much healthier now without it, and I don't think I actually need it now- hooray! maybe someday I won't feel bare without the rest of it.... who knows? I've very dry skin on the rest of my body, skin brushing seems to help a bit, but what should I put on after? Haven't really found anything I like much. So you ladies do brushing too? Take care Melissa Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: swami on Thursday 16 August, 2007 I want to start skin brushing too...where can I find a brush and when it says "natural" bristle, does that mean it's animal derived (I know some hair brushes say boar hair)? My skin is really dry and I've started putting coconut oil on it after my night time shower, usually when my skin is still a little bit wet. It seems to hold the moisture, although looking at my arms now, it doesn't seem to have made a huge improvement. I think hydrating from the inside is meant to be good too, ie. drinking loads of water!
Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: rawfairylady on Thursday 16 August, 2007 Hi Swamigirl,
I got my brush from the local health food shop- it's made from veggies (not sure what it's called- will check after little one wakes up- she's asleep on my lap) it's great- I use it on my face as well- only sort of sweep like with a broom, not scrub! fantastic- really got rid of flaking and associated pimples! Will try the coconut oil- thanks! XOXO Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: Savvy Womyn on Thursday 16 August, 2007 I use almond oil. I get it from my local health food shop. I have the lady there using it to now!
When I first started eating only raw, my skin felt quite dry for a few weeks, but it seems to have righted itself now. I only need to use the oil on my knees and elbows. It's all a process, one day at a time... Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: princessbee on Thursday 16 August, 2007 the brush sounds interesting rawfairylady!
not sure re the natural bristles, I know my fabulous Mason Pearson brush is boar bristle and I have another natural bristle brush which is different but I suspect probably animal derived as well. Unfortunately, synthetic bristles simply are not the same as boar bristles and will not do for your hair what they will... I use a loofah and dry skin brush every day before the shower. feels awesome!!!! Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: Jenergy on Thursday 16 August, 2007 Oh Dani! *blush* Thank you. My posture is much straighter now and Princess, I adore you. Thanks for what you said too dear raw sista but methinks you could be biased! Hehehe. Melissa I miss accentuating my eyes. But not all the time. You look stunning in your avatar. Mwah!
I read here awhile ago that 'the body shop' sell's good body brushes that are vegan. I haven't started yet. I bought myself a back brush from woolies. It's taken me awhile to get used to it after the softness of the loofah's I used previously. Skin brushing is supposed to be done before you hop in the shower isn't it? Hmmm. Now it's getting warmer methinks I could do that! xoxoxo Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: rawfairylady on Friday 17 August, 2007 Helloo, good morning!
Ok, finally made it back with the brush info- mine is a Bernard Jensen Products brush, made with tampico fiber- which is: Tampico Fiber is made from a plant unique to the semi-desertic areas of northern Mexico (did a bit of research for you all) so it is vegan- yay! It's really quite rough, but you get used to it. I googled Bernard Jensen, and found some interesting info on his website too, if you're interested. My brush was about $18. Not bad I guess, and I just wash it about every two weeks in natural shampoo and leave it in the sun to dry- easy! I can definitely say I'll be doing it more often too Jen as it gets warmer Oh, and it is a workout too! I read somewhere that a body brushing session is equivalent to a 30 min aerobic workout!! Love to you all, have the best day ever!!!! :yahh: Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: Jenergy on Saturday 18 August, 2007 Oh, and it is a workout too! I read somewhere that a body brushing session is equivalent to a 30 min aerobic workout!! Must need to brush vigorously!!! rofl Well that's great news. I am looking forward to getting into a routine of walking, brushing and then working. I was warm today. T-shirt all day. Made me feel ! Happy Jen is a warm Jen! xoxoxo Title: Re: Hello Everyone!! I'm new Post by: beckyji on Sunday 19 August, 2007 Hi Raw fairlady.
