What a fantastic Mother you are. You kids loving gs that is fantastic. You should be so proud of yourself. As with the baby drinking gs its fine I think you will find that he will only drink the amount that he wants and not over full on it. That is societies way of telling us that we cant have this or that and this is bad for bubbas. But if he is drinking it keep it going if you ask me. Your daughter (#1) will come around with eating as soon as she sees you guys eating more fruit and vegies you will find she will start to eat more herself.

Anyway welcome to the forum you will love it here.

Love to you and your family

wow Vi, what a good start the kids are getting. They are very lucky indeed. I don't think green smoothies would be a problem...can't get any of mine to drink them yet but they are a bit older. Something my kids love is an apple and a carrot put through the juicer with the blanking plate on. Comes out like stewed fruit and very tasty. This is 1 of the only things i give them if they get sick.
look forward to hearing more about your families transistion to raw.

Hi Vi,

Welcome to the forum.  Sounds like you are doing a fantastic job incorporating the raw with your family.  It certainly makes a huge difference in the amount of time you spend in the kitchen cooking.  I'm new around here myself (3 1/2 weeks) and when I first started it was dinner for my daughter (19 mths) dinner for hubby and then something different again for me.  Thankfully hubby came on board for dinners.

Look forward to swapping recipes with you that the kids might like.

Enjoy !!!!

Hi Vi! Glad you started a journal.

I think gs is awesome for everyone, especially kids. Full of all the good stuff.

I have trouble giving it to my baby, the simple reason being that I can't work out what to give it to him in. I tried cutting a bigger hole in the teat of his bottle, but it clogs up still. And his cup lid doesn't have big enough holes either. What do you give it to your little one in?

Emi try putting it through a strainer first. Then either in a teat or a sipper cup. That will make it ***hopefull*** small enough to pass through. Good luck

Vi sorry to steal you thread for a second but you can have it back now   Tongue Kiss

Hi Vi. Just repeating what everyone else here is saying... what a great start for you and your children. It will be easier to see how the sleep issues go.

Hi Vi,

Just a quick note on the sleeping issue.  My daughter Sophie got her first tooth at 3 1/2 months.  Then most of her teeth came through 4 at a time.  Which was great in that it was over quickly but not so good for her at the time.  I know I used to rock her to sleep when she was teething, and at one stage was thinking like you that it was a bad pattern I was getting into.  However I found the minute she stopped teething she immediately went back to her usual good sleep pattern of putting herself to sleep.  Just wanted the extra comfort while she was teething.  If I can give any advice it would be just do what works for you, that way you are calmer, bubs is calmer and you work out your own little routing.

On the upside there are only so many teeth that they get and it will be over with one day *grin*

Vi dont freat about the gs you will work out your fav recipe very soon. The first few I made I ended up throwing them out cause they where so bad. Then I was using the food processor to make them and thought one day I would try the blender what a difference. So you arnt the only one who is finding it hard with this raw way of life.

As for tastes with the dehydrator your taste buds will change over time (trust me) I use to make stuff in the dehydrator and go yuck and throw it out or it wouldnt work at all. Give your self time with all of this please.

I agree with watermuma, with teathing you do what you feel is right and yes I did train both my kids to put them selves to sleep. But Connor is doing the same thing as your LO wanting to be cuddled to sleep most of the time I just take it as it comes. There is a stigma that you cant do this or that or you will spoil your child, Sorry but I dont believe it. Who wants a baby who is teathing to be screaming half the night. Not me. So please do what you feel is right and not what the dr says. Does the dr know you bubba as well as you do No. And with the co-sleeping can you put him in his own bed when he has fall asleep maybe that is what you could do. You will get him to sleep in his own bed if that is what you want just take it easy with him cause those pesty little teeth hurt.

Love to you Vi

Vi, when I first started out I tried all sorts of raw concoctions. We don't have a dehydrator, but I tried anything that didn't require one. One night hubby and I were talking and he mentioned that he would eat more raw if he could just eat things as they are. lol.

So now it is all very simple in our house. A box of bananas on the bench. Apples and pears on the table. The rest of the fruit and vege in the fridge. I make a GS in the morning, if anyone else wants some I happily put extra in. My daughter prefers a simple fruit salad. Lunches are mainly fruits, including capsicums, tomatoes and avos - which I chop up and put in lunch boxes. Then dinner is either fruit or a simple salad. I realised that I was making it much harder than it needed to be.

Some people love being in the kitchen, making all sorts of fabulous meals. I'm just not one of them I guess. Wouldn't mind eating at Jen's (raw sensation) house though. Or Berry Bliss. Yumm!!!!

Vi, We have a lot in common.  I organised a few cooking lessons for hubby as he said he wanted to cook more gourmet meals (he's already an excellent cook).  Then he treated me to the same gift as I wanted to learn more cooking techniques.  The chef then said hubby who will never follow a recipe needs to do so, and I who will not substitute one ingredient and make him go to the shops to get the missing one has to loosen up and go with the flow more, and not folllow the recipes so much. rofl  Cooking or uncooking is all about finding that gorgeous balance.

There's a lot of wisdom in Emi's words re keeping it simple.  That way you get to savour the individual flavours.

And I empathise with cooking for 4 so much easier when we are single but lots less love in our lives.  I'd rather take the love and muddle thru things in the kitchen.  I'm lucky that Sophie is still young and not so set in her ways so she loves the salads, and fruit combos she gets thru the day.  Although I am struggling by still cooking her a cooked meal for dinner to get her proper nutrition (which is anti all the stuff I am reading on raw) so am doing my head in by beleiving in one thing (raw is best) and behaving in another (giving cooked).  Slowly, slowly does it and we weren't born the perfect mums, I think its something we evolve into.

Enjoy then journey.

Kitchen dyslexia got a grin out of me! I've got common sense dyslexia! What makes sense to me is ridiculous to others and sometimes I can see their point of view. I just think differently to others!

You'll get there with things. When I first went raw one of my favourite things to eat was a 'raw-cheese' dip. 1 cup of pine nuts, juice of one lemon some salt and pepper in the food processor. Blend until pasty adding water if needed and then add some spinach. I don't mind grown up spinach or baby spinach. Yummmm! you can omit the spinach and add some semi dried tomatoes and olives for a different taste. Sometimes I would add garlic also. I'd have this with chopped snow peas, carrot, capsicum, celery, asparagus... whatever took my fancy. Yummmm!

As the others have said, you will get there. you just need to work out what you like raw.

I've been thinking about the rice bubbles... maybe some buckwheat that's been soaked and dehydrated? You could soak in apple juice or diluted juice and then dehydrate it and they could eat it with nut milk? Does that appeal to you at all? Something to think about anyhow.
