Title: raw faces! Post by: durianrider on Thursday 06 September, 2007 here is a little snippet i found on the net..
MERCURY IN MASCARA!? Researchers from the Environmental Working Group list the products and ingredients you should avoid , and mascara is among them. Know what is in your cosmetics Because of loopholes in federal law, companies can put virtually any ingredient into personal care products; moreover, pre-market safety tests are not required for any of them. WATCH OUT for terms like organic, natural and hypoallergenic. Read the fine print and check the ingredients. LAY OFF the fluoridated toothpaste. Little kids eat toothpaste, and fluoride consumption has been linked to bone cancer in boys. There’s a reason for the poison control warning on fluoridated toothpaste, so wait until they’re at least six before giving it to them. BRUSH WITH SOAP instead HOW ABOUT added fragrances - can cause allergic reactions, and products that claim to be “fragrance free” often contain masking fragrances that give off a neutral odor. Check the label to be sure. LIGHTEN UP on dark hair dyes. Many contain coal tar ingredients that have been linked to cancer. REMOVE the nail polish, especially if you’re pregnant. It’s a product that routinely contains ingredients linked to birth defects and other problems. If you do use it, always paint nails in a well-ventilated area. if thats not enough to make you chuck that female suppression goop they call 'make up' in the bin..then just remember that until we can accept who we are in the raw..how can we accept others too? we cant 'make up' beauty..its earned via being happy, healthy and living as natural as we care to. if i started wearing make up people would laugh at me. im a man. im good enough already society says. i think women are good enough too. so good already that they dont need to paint their faces with toxic stuff to try and 'make up' for the fact that they aint a man. as a women, dont you feel your good enough to let your true identity glow? boycott the industries that make teenage girls feel that entering womenhood starts with slapp'n on mascara n foundation. boycott the industries that use computer touched up 17 year old models to advertise their products... boycott the industries the have animal testing despite the labels.. if your partner wants you to change your face. or your employer..ask them 'cant you accept me for the way i am?, or how about you slap on some toxic goop and see how it feels..lol!' eating greens and fruit true means to be cute! Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: ~rawk star~ on Thursday 06 September, 2007 i love reading your posts.. they always make me think. I cant say im ready to chuck ALL my make up in the bin, but i have been wearing less since going raw. i can really notice if my skin and eyes "glow" depending on what i eat. . so then when i go to "cover" my face in the morning.. i think...hmmm.. i dont really need to cover my face when im glowing and happy! I'm all for being a (almost) all natural girl. i love having my hair messy and out. but the bf loves me "done up"...................................................
hmmm u got me thinking... Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: FreedomB on Thursday 06 September, 2007 I guess maybe I'm lucky cos I've never worn make-up so I don't have anything to get rid of! Al that goo has always seemed totally unneccessary and gross to me!
Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: Pinky on Saturday 08 September, 2007 I totally agree with what you are saying Harles *But I cant do it yet*. I cant give up all my makeup. I dont wear it very often just really when we go out to the movies or something like that. If its a special occasion (when the kids are home with Nanna and Pop) and Pete and I are going out by ourselves I wear it just so I look prettier or even feel prettier in my own self.
So I would wear makeup maybe once twice a month at the most. Funny story I was at the chiro about 2 weeks ago and the chiro that sees us when our normal one is away. Said to me 'what have you dont to your eyes there amazing' I had makeup on and he had never seen me with it on. That made me feel special but still I dont wear it all the time only when I feel the need to. Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: Jenergy on Saturday 08 September, 2007 After talking to Suay about the effect her makeup was having on those close to her I decided to ditch my cosmetics too. It was a descision that took a couple of months but I think it was the right one. Tonight I went out with Bill to a restaurant and put my hair up and went bare faced. I think Angela Stokes and Jinjee are two of the most beautiful women on the planet and I'm yet to see either one raw with makeup on their faces. In their before shots sure but not now... they glow with their natural beauty. I want to be like that!
Last week I joked with Bill about what people would say... "we've been married one year and already she's let herself go, look what she is wearing and not one ounce of make up on her head" and Bill just said "yeah well that's because you now know not to poison your system with that stuff'! eeeeeeeeeeeee my cup spilleth over! xoxoxo Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: RawAussieAthlete on Saturday 08 September, 2007 I can never hear enough stories of people rejecting the self-destructive far-from-natural products everpresent in our society (make up, shampoo, soap/detergent, toothpastes, alcohol, glasses, etc) and accepting the freedom of releasing their inner beauty. Empowering stuff. I love it!
Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: Pinky on Sunday 09 September, 2007 You go Jennie. That is fantastic I wouldnt have the guts to go out with Pete like that without the makeup on, maybe one day but not just yet. I am so proud of you
Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: Jenergy on Sunday 09 September, 2007 Thanks babe!
Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: durianrider on Monday 10 September, 2007 ive got an old mate that works in sydney for a marketing firm..
her job is to do touch ups on the computer of models in adverts.. so we have standards set by computers now..lol! impossible to reach standards. wow! what a way to make your target market feel guilty and try and save face by buying 'trash a face' in a bottle.. like anything worthwhile..the 'glow' cant be bought..it can only be earned by living a lifestyle you know works for you..and incidently it works wonders for those around us.. raw lifestyle..gives us more 'go' not to mention our true glow. i still remember janita's first make up free day in 26 years..she had a blast! set free by her own beliefs that she is beautiful enough with the skin she was born with..and a month later in thailand..well she was a totally different person.. i see it time and time again..make up covering true glow..its like putting a mango in a microwave.. Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: Jenergy on Monday 10 September, 2007 Aaaaaaaaaah good ole airbrushing. Take a look at this. I haven't worn make up since I watched it.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=dh54tlEpJrA (http://youtube.com/watch?v=dh54tlEpJrA) And just for some fun!!! http://youtube.com/watch?v=xhQP5_78NcQ (http://youtube.com/watch?v=xhQP5_78NcQ) Bill's diet has improved since he saw this! xooxo Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: Sweetpea on Tuesday 11 September, 2007 as a women, dont you feel your good enough to let your true identity glow? I am 37 years old and have only worn make-up 3 or 4 times in my life. You may be surprised to learn that there is often a lot of negativity / backlash, towards women who don’t wear make-up. I have been asked if I am a lesbian. I have been turned down for employment. I have been denied a promotion. I have endured sarcastic comments by air-headed space cadets.............and all because I don’t want to wear make-up. Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: Jenergy on Tuesday 11 September, 2007 Good for you Kittykat. I don't know how you handled all of that. Especially the getting turned down for employment bit. That would have made me so angry! You must be a very strong woman indeed!
xoxox Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: Pinky on Tuesday 11 September, 2007 Kitty that is so bizzar I would never have thought that wearing no makeup would have such a bad reaction like that. I say you go girl I think you are fantastic for not wearing makeup. It is just the normal that the world wants to see.
Love and hugs to you Angie Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: durianrider on Thursday 13 September, 2007 congrats! know you dont have to work with shallow idiots! lol!
female friends that were make up tell me the same ie; have a perceived sense of beauty (standard set by hollywood, computer imaging and estee frauder adverts...) to not be left out of the make up bandit gang. employment acceptance. yet i have raw make up free female friends that are more stunning than the waifs that couldnt lift more than a cigarette and a appetite suppresent pill..and im just talking looks,,i aint gonna get into the mental virtues.. them pinched faced waif's that get slathered in goop and then touched up to set this impossible standard..like the one in the chemist yesterday when i was getting photos..this hair 'model' photo..touched up beyond and then some..lol! but some people just cant see the fake faces... some women wear make up to impress guys 'that tell you stuff you already know just so they sound more 'understanding and sensitive', but when it comes to crunch time..and you want to talk about organic skincare products..they are like 'err..are we gonna get it on or what?' some guys dont want to be seen with a girl that doesnt fit the latest ralph or fhm magazine computer face manipulation programme..but what chick wants to be with a shallow hal? like they say 'perfect health is the most perfect beauty and perfect beauty is the most perfect health.' confidence is attracting..women that can handle their bare face to the public and feel proud instead of 'left out' are gonna attract and or sustain the guy that they wanna be with in the first place. people do change of course..as a booze'n beef head, i respected touched up movie stars...today my definition is different..and that definition is along the lines that true beauty is earned, eat'n, sweated, hydrated, fit n raw! Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: Petal on Monday 01 October, 2007 This is an old thread but i had to have my 2 cents worth on this subject lol....
I was selling advertisement for a local paper once, and although i looked well groomed i never wore makeup. One day my manager asked me into the office and proceeded to tell me that i should try to look more made up by using makeup to attract male clients, so i could sell more ads, you know what happened to that job :detox: lol... I was asked to model hair and make up for a local bridal shop sixteen years ago lol. I agreed, thought it might be fun. I had to model an after five look and then a bride look, wasn't married then, so the first time i got to be a bride was for a tv shoot lol. Anyway, the amount of make up was absolutely incredible, i had 10 layers of mascara, 4-5 layers of foundation and heavy lipstick and eye make up. Honestly my face close up looked flaky, from the heavy foundation, my eyes looked as if i went a few rounds with tyson, and i looked ugly.. When the ad was televised, my skin looked perfect... I was flawless and it looked as if i had no make up whatsoever!!! It was a bit funny, cause the ad said "for your special day, natural looking make-up etc"... I f only people could see what i looked like live, they would have thought i was frankenstiens bride lol... So yeah! that was definetly a cover up story lol....... Just thought i would share, from one that's been there, what you see is not what you get.... Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: RawGreenGoddess on Tuesday 02 October, 2007 ugh!! for a start that makeup artist shouldve been kicked to the curb................gives us a bad name it does...lol
i do wedding makeup all the time, and i get constant comments that they get me to do it,because i make them look so 'natural'...........dear god, there are many racoon stories out there know,i shudder!! Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: Petal on Tuesday 02 October, 2007 I dare say it was because of television, they probably had to put it on thick because of the extremely bright lights. My point however was that, all these supposedly beautiful people on television have been touched up, and in real life they're not flawless, it's only trickery for the cameras and to sell products etc..... My personal opinion, and i hope women don't jump on me about this lol, is women dress up for women, not for men. Men really don't give two hoots about make-up etc, women are more emotional, jealous and competetive beings, whether they admit it or not i beleive it to be true, and companies, probably mostly run by men, know this and exploit it for what it's worth, which is millions.... So if women stopped looking at each other as a rivals, men would have to start worrying lol..... Of course this is just my opinion ...
I watched Sunrise this morning and they had a segment on the toxicity of make-up, and how the chemicals in it are linked to various long term health complications, such as cancer, infections, allergies etc etc... Very interesting that i read this thread last night, wrote in, and this morning that same subject appeared on a tv show, is the universe trying to say something  lol.... with love :rose: Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: Sheryl on Tuesday 02 October, 2007 I've posted this before but it's too good not to post again:
http://www.campaignforrealbeauty.com (http://www.campaignforrealbeauty.com) It's the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty... have a watch of the video. It's quite amazing. When Piers and I got married I went for test makeup at a salon. It was HIDEOUS! I didn't even resemble myself, more a made up mannequin (with these over sized drawn on glossy lips too). Piers hardly recognized me. Now that's not what beauty is about! Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: Sheryl on Tuesday 02 October, 2007 Here are some more examples you can hover over for some extreme examples of photo retouching:

Post by: durianrider on Tuesday 02 October, 2007 i remember say'n gday to victoria beckham in a 24hour shop in london a few years back..no make up. just a real face.
make up..what we seek artificially is ours naturally is we live by mother natures laws... we cant break em..just break ourselves in the process. ive worn skirts, blouses and stilletto's...but you wont see me wear'n make up. a clean face is a confident face dont feel pressured by the rat race in the bin goes the goop and your out of the female suppression loop those vogue adds be sell'n sumth'n you should be smell'n sumth'n time to question what is encouraged and believe that make-up be discouraged what is a guy to say? 'please wash your face before my lips say gday' keep it fresh, keep it raw then our true glow comes out for us to adore. when we were younger they said we need to look older now we are older they tell us to look younger same companies, same lies as as always 'real eyes realise real lies'.. you aint no dipstick.. ditch the lipstick foundation and eye liner has us look'n like a coal miner industrial waste on our face just to win some imaginary beauty race race conditions set up by beauty magazines and touched up on computer screens they say 'this is how to get a guy' yet its just another corporate lie marketing crew say'n 'sucker born every minute' so better grab your make-up bag and BIN IT! Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: emily78 on Tuesday 02 October, 2007 Haha love it durianrider! rofl
By the way how on earth did you recignise Victoria without her makeup? Ive never really worn alot of makeup, though i do wear some lippy by Dr Husuhka (how do you spell it? ) it contains just natural plant pigments and oils. I also stain my lips with beetroot and berries if im eating them at the time ;) Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: emily78 on Tuesday 02 October, 2007 Oh and a little bit of beetroot on your cheeks makes a good blusher! true :)
When i was little i was obsessed with making makeup from crushed rose petals and berries etc, even smells nice! Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: durianrider on Tuesday 02 October, 2007 this cab driver pointed her out to me...and then i pointed her out to some teenage girls that starting screaming..whoops! lol!
i ate mulberries for close to an hour yesterday..my lips and fingers mulberrie'd. they say make up is multicultural. i say we just join the mulberry culture.. Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: RawGreenGoddess on Wednesday 03 October, 2007 hee heee...sorry,but im highly doubtful posh wouldve been out of the house without a lick of mascara....remember that makeup is very devious...can be extremely artfully applied so it LOOKS like you're not wearing anything....(whooooooooooooooooo look out...!!) rofl
whether its beetroot or mulberries or blusher from a cosmetic container, isnt the false illusion still the same end result..... hee hee off i go now...bye bye............*thwack thwack ...get out get out!!!* Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: emily78 on Wednesday 03 October, 2007 I find it really funny when they have the "celebrities without makeup" in magazines, trying to piont out how hidiouse women look without it  and i look at them thinking, wow she has bronzer, mascara, eyeliner, highlighter, concealor, eyeshadow...so yes makeup is very deceiving. My boyfriend also points out girls sometimes and says how stunning they are without makeup, i look around to try to find the makeup less women only to see someone with fake tan, styled hair, a full face of neutral makeup that would have taken two hours to apply. lol makeup is a hard one as women have been wearing it for hundreds of years, think of cleopatra with her amazing black eyeliner. I still feel at my very best if i have a clean makeup free face though :) Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: FreeleaRaw on Wednesday 03 October, 2007 Great posts everyone :-) Awesome poetry Harley as usual and I agree. Makeup is big $$ business, no wonder companies flog it so much & attach so much 'pleasure' to wearing it, like u can have any man or that job you desire etc They're all just trying to sell us an emotion, a state change - happiness and makeup or the physical world doesn't equal happiness, mayb temporarily. This is something I"ve had challenges with currently and in the past, I have never worn much more then just mascara but I find it very hard to let go of, I realise its the meaning I attach to makeup (sexy, beautiful, classy, happy, accepted ultimately loved)....will go makeup free one day this week & ditch it - thx harls
Thanks Sheryl for that dove link, its shocking the hypnosis most of society lives under. Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: RawGreenGoddess on Wednesday 03 October, 2007 Free you are truly beautiful...as you are...without makeup or with a touch of mascara..do what makes YOU happy...
cos judgement against those who do wear makeup,is as nasty as judgement against those who chose not to wear makeup... love seeing this pic of us..with hair,he he and ohhh those mangoes 'dear God..' lol...mwah! Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: durianrider on Wednesday 03 October, 2007 some good points neetster..
and yeah im sure posh had some fake up on that day..but it wasnt the usual slathering. my angst isnt with the individual as much..its more with the advertising that makes chicks think they need the product.. just like a certain person stopped cycling the other day near some wet concrete and wrote 'GO RAW VEGAN' with a stick. the same person has been known to deface fake up adverts.. www.adbusters.org Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: emily78 on Wednesday 03 October, 2007 haha nothing better than advertising life and health on the streets, that permanant spot on the pavement would have cost a add agency at least a couple of grand ;)
My boyfriend and i have started to do street stencil art, its so nice to look at a wall and see a beautiful picture that isnt trying to sell you something. Just art, to make you smile as you walk by :) Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: VegiesMakeMeSmile on Wednesday 03 October, 2007 I will never go without my mascara because my eyelashes are the same colour as my skin and I hate looking as if I don't have any. The option would be dying them with the danger of going blind if the chemicals get in my eyes - I don't *think* so!!!
Or I could get eyeliner tattoed on, but it still wouldn't look like eye lashes. I'm sticking with my mascara unless it gets completely outlawed LOL Love May Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: RawNaturopathJen on Wednesday 03 October, 2007 The only thing i use is pawpaw lipbalm.
Ive always hated using mascara (only a few times per year for occasions) because its such a pain to take it off when you get home and bed is calling! Coconut oil does the job fast, though. x x Title: Re: raw faces! I'm sticking with my mascara unless it gets completely outlawed LOL Love May May there is a really gorgeous mascara made from all natural ingrediance, ill find out the brand if youd like :) It smells like almonds, which is a nice change from mascara smelling like a buring tyre lol Ive also heard that dabbing castor oil on your lash line before bed helps with making your lashes really lush and healthy Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: VegiesMakeMeSmile on Wednesday 03 October, 2007 That would be great Emily, thank you  I am aware of the nasty chemicals in mascara but have been willing to pay the price, but obviously a healthier choice would be fantastic.
My hubby, daughter-in-law and grand-daughter all have the most beautiful long thick eyelashes. At least there are some in the family. DIL used to get hauled into her school office all the time for wearing mascara and made to wash her eyes, sometimes more than once a day. But they are natural!!!! The teachers never did learn. Love May Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: Savvy Womyn on Wednesday 03 October, 2007 I used to get that too May. I was born with a stork mark accross my eyes. It faded within my first year, but along my eyelids remains darker and looking like I have makeup on. I remember getting into LOTS of trouble for using some choice words at a teacher when she made me wash my eyes for the THIRD time in one week. There is a line in the sand, and she took too many steps over it... o:)
Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: Sacha on Wednesday 03 October, 2007 Emi you story of the teacher made laugh out loud. Very funny. Sorry if it's not meant too.
Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: VegiesMakeMeSmile on Wednesday 03 October, 2007 Some people in authority are a bit power hungry. Good on you for sticking up for yourself!
Love May Title: Re: raw faces! Post by: RawGreenGoddess on Friday 05 October, 2007 atta girl!! yayyy...she is a switched on girl by the sounds of it...its one of the best things i ever did...so empowering to shave my head....i would definitely do it again...non-conforming,being different it rocks!!
