Title: How good is the Sunbeam Cafe Series blender compared to a Vitamix?
Post by: colquhoun on Sunday 09 September, 2007
I was fairly happy with my breville 700 watt blender until a yesterday, when I decided to add more greens, than usual, to my mix for a GS... Consequently I had to chew my way through 2 1/2 litres of the stuff lol.... If anyone had visited they would have laughed cause I would have reminded them of that add, can't remember for what lol, but there's this woman blending greens and when she smiles at the camera her teeth are covered in green stuff, not a pretty picture lol, that was me yesterday lol..... So now I'm interested in a more poweful blender. One that will be able to break down stalky greens etc, but I definitely can't afford a Vitamix and I read somewhere in one of the old threads someone saying the Sunbeam Cafe Series is really good, I just need to know what their really good is. So if anyone has one or knows someone that has one coud you please let me know, will it juice (so to speak) greens so I dont have to chew, and what else can it do say compared to an ordinary blender, or is the Vitamix the only blender that is good enough!!!

I have a Breville and it is fantastic. Did you add water to you GS if you didnt then that would be why. They are too think without the water and it helps the bleder blend everything.

I dont know about the sunbeam so cant help you out there.

Thanks missgiggles,

I too begin my blending with greens and water, then add fruit... I was having baby spinach with bananas and grapes, and sometimes I would add some bock choi or whatever greens I had, and my blender blended away really well, I was able to drink my GS, although thick in texture, but because it's been a week since I went raw I decided to mix it up a bit lol, so I began to add mint, pasley, corriander, basil, silverbeet etc and that's when my blended decided it did not want to play well anymore, it just couldn't blend the stalks properly, and I cut most of the stalk off, lol..... That's when I thought to myself, Hmmmmm!!!! I need a new blender and a $200 blender sounds better than a $1,200 blender at the moment lol....

What is the wattage on the Sunbeam? (if you know it), and can I buy one at places like Betta, Harvey Norman etc?

Thanks for taking the time to answer my Q's missgiggles lol...

I just bought a Cafe Series yesterday!   :yahh:  I was presented with a Coles-Myer gift card for $100 when I left my old job a week ago and I immediately knew what it was going to go toward.  My old Breville has been struggling for a while and the jug just isn't big enough.

The model on display was 1000W but the one I got is 1200W - no difference in price, though.  My green smoothie this morning was silky smooth and without the little lumps of banana I used to get with the Breville, so I'm very happy!

That's it, you guys have convinced me - I'm saving up for one of these! My little Tribest blender is great but it is just that - little! 2L capacity sounds fantastic!

Hi
I also have a 1200watt cafe series and I love it. I've never used a vitamix so I can't compare but the sumbeam blends everything silky smooth.
If I remember rightly it was $200-300 so lots cheaper than the vitamix.
I on'y use it for smoothies....I have the cafe series food processor I use for everything else.
The main reson I bought the cafe series was I could get the 2 powerful machines for under $700.

I too also love my sunbeam cafe series blender  :yahh: And if you need more proof of it's durability, then here's one...

I woke up to stranged noises coming from the kitchen, more like a monster than a blender!...my dad was in the kitchen brewing up a storm (green smoothie) as I had been encouraging him to do! Either the chickweed he had brought in for the garden had a bottle cap in it...or it was on the bench...because that is precisely what got blended up in the mix...I normally drink most crazy brews, but not this one!! It made cratch marks all around the base of the blender jug, but that was ages ago and it still produce lovely smoothies!!!   :ohyeah:

I love how the sides are so easy to scrape down, cos the have no groves in them at all.

Another point on the Sunbeam - it is wonderfully easy to clean!  With my old Breville I had to take it apart after every use as there was always stuff stuck in the blades, under the seal, everywhere.  After making a gs in the Sunbeam this morning, all I had to do was give it a rinse and it was sparkling again.  It took me about half the time to make my gs than it used to.  I love it!!   :yahh:

That will be the second thing I buy after a dehydrator, because I've been waiting a long time for one, then it's the Sunbeam blender Woo Hoo!!!   :yahh:  :ohyeah:...

That was funny lou! I had this vision of an elderly (sorry if he's not) man with a befuddled look on his face when he heard the noise your blender was making  :snicker:...

I agree with you Michaela, cleaning my Breville is painful cause of the stuff under the blades, and the grooves on the sides make it really hard to pour and scrape thick soup or GS :battle:....

Pinktulip, you made me laugh cause I know exactly what you mean about my name  rofl.. If you think writing it is hard you should try to pronounce it  rofl... If I change my name how is everyone that I have so far been writing to know that cheeky is colquhoun? sorry if this is a stupid Question, but I am sometimes  :kookoo:.. :P lol..

with love, the yet to be renamed

hi lou
i've had funny things go into the blender too.  we always have to check the juicer before turning it on as ashriel (22months) loves to put things down the chute.  the other day i found 5 macadamias (in their shells).

Yep - another Sunbeam Cafe Series blender user here!  I am very happy with it, but then I only have a slender blender to compare it too (talk about chewing your smoothies!)

The Sunbeam sales rep was in the shop when I went in, so I bombarded him with a whole heap of questions about the blenders.  One tip he gave me for cleaning them was to half fill it with water and add a drop of dishwashing liquid and blend - clean jug.  Then I just tip the water into the sink to use for my dishes and rinse out the jug.

And ask them whats the best price they can do - thats what I asked and I got $30 off the price displayed.

Hey Rawnaturopathjen,

it's my fault, obviously lol, that this thread is in the pregnancy and kids section. I must have been in this section either reading a thread or adding something in, when I decided to post my question  lol Hence, the thread being here. The site must not be able to place posts in their respective title, sorry about that  lol...

well i just bought a sunbeam 850 watt multi blender electronic (whjat a stupid name!) lol its nice and SQUARE, but CRAP!!! it was about $130 from Myer
its as tho the blades are too low, and it only mixes the stuff right down the bottom of the jug. so i was disappointed and took it back and got another one, but its exactly the same.
my bf has a cheaper $80 one and its HEAPS better!! go figuer... =s
It does eventually blend it all up, but not as quick or as easily as my BF's cheaper one.  im not allowed to take it back again they said! coz i waited for more than a month b4 returning it. so im stuck with it. . it does the job, but I certainly dont recommend that model to anyone, even tho it does look nice.

My GF has a VitaMix, and it's awesome (although @ $1k, it would want to b!!) GS come out smooth an silky, & I put broccoli!

When we met I went out an bought a $60 Sunbeam 800w, it does the job .... much slower than a Vitamix sure, the biggest issue is the plastic drive gear, after a couple of months of daily use it's starting to wear.  So it's time to look @ "a real" blender.

Having done a google search and the Cafe series comes up on another forum, great motor, apparently heaps of problems with the jug - leaking, cracks, etc and some of the posts are from only a couple of months ago.

I'm going to give the Breville 800 blender a crack.  1500w 2yr warranty (5yr on motor) $220 on ebay (incl delivery)

Sure, you get what you pay for but @ $600 for a blendtec, & $1000 for a VitaMix, I'll just have to save up a few more dollars to be able to make that investment.

I bought a sunbeam about 6 months ago and happy with it so far. I'm pretty sure they are 2000W now, which was I thought was good value for money.
Would have loved a blendtec but just couldn't justify the cost...maybe one day   :)
