Welcome Alegne,

Congratulations on your progress! How are you feeling? Are you happier? Do you have more energy? These are all great things to focus on.

For me exercise has always been a key. When I exercise I do MUCH better at weight loss. Especially when combined with raw foods.

We do have lots of raw food things happening in Australia. In fact if you look in the Australia section of the site we are now lucky enough to have someone putting on raw food dinners (everyone brings a dish to share - no cost to attend).

Piers and I are always here to support you - please visit often!

Cheers,
Sheryl

Hi Alegne!

What's wrong with 4kg ?  I think that's fantastic over 5 weeks.  I have lost 6kg over a period of almost 3 months and am happy with that.

I know how nice it is to have someone to talk to - I always have dozens of questions in my head.  If you would like to 'chat', let me know and we can email directly or even a phone call.  I am in Sydney and our second raw food potluck is on the 27th August.

Hi Alegne

I agree 4 kilos is fine but you are probably eating too much fat. It is common when someone first goes raw to replace cooked foods with high fat foods. Try eating more fruit to get the energy you need and satisfy your hunger, and then lots of green leafy vegies. Keep avocadoes, olives and nuts to a minimum and watch the kilos fall off and your energy levels soar. And yes exercise is very important. I am also in Sydney and would love to make contact. The more support the better. Keep up the good work.

:situps: Hi Alegne, congrats on your 4 kilos, that's a great start.Just focus on quick exit foods, not dense heavy foods,as the others have said-less nuts, keeps oils to a very frugal amount say 1 1/2 Tb per day,cut down on dried fruits, make sure your combining your foods correctly,as this will speed the food through quicker.Enjoy a good amount of fresh fruit, and dark leafy greens, and at least one very large green veg juice each day, helps to maintain homeostatis of your body.EXERCISE every day, depends on what you're use to doing to how you start off,if you can exercise before breakfast,as this will increase your metabolic rate and as you eat throughout the day ,you're digestion will work faster.Drink 2-3 litres of water per day,dry skin brushing is helpful too
Keep up the good work, and try not to be too focused on food, enjoy the journey,
Janita.

I have to second much of what's been said here.

Some of the most common mistakes when aiming to lose fat raw are:

1. Eating too many trouble fats and too few useful ones. Some fats are particularly troublesome such as those in nuts, whereas there is a great deal of research on coconut suggesting that it's fats may actually *help* us lose weight (look for our interview with Dr Bruce Fife ND soon for more info on this). Similarly research on fresh, non rancid omega 3's (such as in flax sed, chia seed and greens like purslane) are more easily useable by the body and so can be of use.
2. Exercising to little or not at all.
3. Focusing on losing weight rather than fat. Muscle weighs 3 times what fat does. Lose 30cm cubed of muscle and put on 60cm cubed of fat and you've lost weight. You'll look flabbier, fatter and have less energy though. Most body builders weigh in like a truck, but are lean. As you focus, so shall you recieve.
4. Expecting it to be a sprint rather than a marathon. Statistically, the weight you take off slowly you're likely to keep off. The weight you "dump" usually comes back when your bodies survival mechanisms kick in, so celebrate that you're losing it slow and regular - thats awesome!  ^_^
5. Not having enough fun. Anything you enjoy you'll keep doing and getting results from. For most people using "discipline" is anything but fun, ergo no results and the often heard moan "if only I had MORE discipline!..." I'd hazzard a guess in many of these cases that people saying this would do better if only they had a bit LESS discipline... and more creativity with finding ways of making their change fun!

Hope this helps!

Cheers

Piers
