Title: Is sunbathing the devil?
Post by: aguacate on Thursday 15 November, 2007
I know a lot of you love to bask in the sun.  I do, too.  However, my skin is so fair, and I don't want to damage it...  If I am ever basking in the sun, my family is sure to tell me that I am going to get wrinkles or something.  Very confusing.  It feels so good, but at the same time I definitely do not want pre mature wrinkles or skin cancer or anything horrible like that...  =/

i don't like sunscreen.  it dries out my skin and generally smells and feels discusting and suffocating.  My parents always tell me to wear it.  they feel like i'm playing with fire if I don't.  I know my parents don't know everything, but at the same time I don't know what is wrong with sunscreen.  after all it is supposed to protect you.  it's just nasty.  I can't stand the stuff.

people talk about how sunbathing is healthy.  my parents and other people i know in real life (as opposed to virtual life and literature) say it is the devil.  I'm not sure what to believe or why?

well we'd surely be in hell with the devil if we had no sunshine,lol...

babe everything in moderation...im a firm believer of getting sun early morning or later in afternoon...i dont like frizzling in the sun,and i go very brown...i think one hour at least of exposed skin in the sun is a must, daily! otherwise i cover up or just dont go out in it...wear a hat etc...

there are more natural sunscreens, but im not a huge fan of them either, just use your intelligence, and i know you have lots of that....*smile*

I did the 'Walk Against Warming' last Sunday in 36 degree (C) heat. Normally I just try to keep out of the sun in the middle of the day but the walk was scheduled to start at 1pm so I had no choice. My Mum slathered on the sunscreen but I didn't want to, because it is (probably) tested on animals, it's full of chemicals, it's unnatural etc etc... So I didn't wear any. I was wearing a relatively skimpy (for me) dress, and I put a big white cotton shirty thing over the top, plus my wide-brimmed hemp hat. I was walking in the sun for at least 20 minutes with no protection to my legs at all. Then later in the afternoon, at about 5pm, I rode my bike home. I was in the sun most of the way and it was still really hot, it took me 2 1/2 hours. The next morning I woke up expecting to be burnt but I wasn't!   :yahh: Well, there was this little burned patch on the back of my left calf  but apart from that, nothing. I was very happy!  :ohyeah:

do a personal experiement..eat no overt fats like avo, nuts seeds etc. eat your fav fresh fruits and greens. no salt..lots of water. lots of sleep..enough sun..just like when we start training, we ease into it.

eating foods that aid hydration..that creates skin glow. when it comes to super skin..90/5/5 is better than 80/10/10.

agreed....i find 90/5/5 actually sits better for me,inside and out...some may view it extreme...to me 30% fat intake is extreme...and i would never leave my bed,id feel dead!

Freedom we got matching burn patches!  hehehe

I was out all Saturday at the picnic, most of it in the sun & was in a knee length skirt, so my legs were in the sun.  Strangely they didn't get burned, apart from one small oval patch on the back of my left calf.

My face went a little pink too on cheeks and forehead - but I put some oil on it before bed & when I woke it was better.

Seems I still have to take care of the face a bit, as well as staying out of the sun in the hotter parts of the day. I should invest in some hats for this summer.

It's the first summer I would have had in 3 years, I really think my skin is going to get a shock - and me, from the heat!

I use Soleo Organics sunscreen if I am going to be out all day in the sun or at the beach: http://www.soleoorganics.com/default.asp?V_DOC_ID=861

But I do like to get some sun without suncreen, sometimes sunscreen feels like it's closing your skin up and it's very oily. Soleo is very thick too, but atleast you know it's doing it's job!

I've been using my son's UV Natural Baby sunscreen on myself recently and found it to be tremendous, and definitely not drying or suffocating to the skin. Really beautiful stuff.
