Title: raw sunscreen? Post by: ShannonOfDoom on Monday 21 January, 2008 is there anything i can use from mother earth as sunscreen? I don't usually go in the sun a whole lot but i was playing tennis on the weekend & i am as red as a capsicum (stick me in the spiraliser im ripe!*lolz @ my little raw joke*)
ive never had to worry about my face because i use mineral makeup which has its own sunscreen, is there somethign i can use other than the old banana boat? Title: Re: raw sunscreen? Post by: FreedomB on Monday 21 January, 2008 Lots of people say that once you have been raw for a while you stop getting burnt and I have noticed this is true in myself (18 months 100% raw) though if I'm out in the heat of the day, especially when it's 38 degrees as it has been for over a month here in Perth, I do still burn a bit. My advice is to avoid the sun in the middle of the day (good old 11 to 3 stay under a tree, lol!) and wear light cotton shirts/pants to protect yourself.
Once the burning has actually happened, nothing is better than fresh aloe gel straight from the plant. I've done a comparison when I had burnt shoulders - the one with the aloe returned to a normal colour and didn't peel while the one without aloe took a while to get back to normal and peeled heaps. Title: Re: raw sunscreen? Post by: erthmum on Monday 21 January, 2008 st John's wort infused olive oil whipped with aloe gel (fresh from the plant) is reputed by traditional herbalists to be an effective sunscreen (depite popular scaremongering that SJW causes sun sensitivity)....however I echo Freedom's experience. Since going raw I find that I don't burn as easily...I personally think that because we consume more greens we are actually consuming liquid sunshine so we kind of immune ourselves to it's negative effects..(well, I like that little theory anyway) :)

Title: Re: raw sunscreen? Post by: durianrider on Thursday 31 January, 2008 a tan is like fitness. we can use chemicals to let us go further than we naturally can or we can build up slowly and in accordance to our bodies desires.
for me im out riding whatever the weather. 0c to 48c. if im in the sun with not much tan i just hit the shade or cover up with some light clothing, sand, mud or leaves.. and yeah you tan better on sweet fruits. its like the fruit that doesnt get enough sun wont be sweet enough... also i find that not eating much before extreme heat does give the skin better chance. as does being hyper hydrated. Title: Re: raw sunscreen? Post by: Alegne on Thursday 07 February, 2008 I have found the raw coconut oil I get from RP works a treat but as Freedon said avoid the sun in the middle of the day. I have a really nice tan with coconut oil and it lasts too.

Title: Re: raw sunscreen? Post by: melchoir_magik on Friday 08 February, 2008 You could make yourself up an aromatherapy blend of various oils. Off the top of my head, as it was some years ago I learnt it, a blend using mainly carrot and avocado oils was the recipe base. These are carrier oils which would protect and nourish the skin, so therefore wouldnt burn as easily and you would have to reapply alot unless you blended a cream which can involve some heating. But you could also do on a hot day and melt it. There are some essential oils which will also help protect against burning but youll have to investigate as my texts are hidden well in depths of my cupboard. Sorry this info is lacking in detail but its a thought for you.
