Title: Protein intake for an average person Post by: stop on Wednesday 14 May, 2008 Hi, everyone!
I'm new here and new to raw eating too (have been eating raw for 2.5 weeks). I just wanted to ask you guys what your daily protein intake is (in grams), what kind of food you eat and how much of it you consume. Here in Australia the protein RDI is 1g per 1kg of body weight per day. So, if I'm 53kg, I need to eat 53g of protein a day. How true and realistic is this? Any kinds of thoughts on the topic are much welcome :) Thanks in advance for your answers :) P.S.: I've been a bit worried since I read about a girl whose hair started falling out in clumps after she's been on a raw diet for around 8 months or so. Title: Re: Protein intake for an average person Post by: Karenlovesraw on Wednesday 14 May, 2008 Well I am one of the raw fooders that believes in the importance of protein, we need it for growth and repair. It is easy to get adequate protein on a raw food diet as long as you are eating enough. Lots of greens, sprouts, nuts and seeds - best eaten without fruit though, have them with vegies and salads. And Spirulina which is the only Alkaline producing high protein food, it's protein quantitiy is equal to protein powders but it is natural and full of vitamins, minerals and efa's.
Hope this helps, also use Fitday.com every now and then to see how you are going with you macronutrients if you are concerned. Have fun and enjoy. Oh... and welcome! Do you take spirulina in tablets or in powder? What brand would be the best to buy in terms of purity of the product? Can you buy it at regular Health Food shops? Fitday.com is quite interesting, I've just registered there :) Thanks again :) Title: Re: Protein intake for an average person Post by: Karenlovesraw on Wednesday 14 May, 2008 Hi, I use the powder. I have aquired a taste for it so I enjoy it on salads, smoothies and in a porridge with freshly groundflax and maca etc
I think the most important thing is to find one that is organic. There are many around but some are quite expensive. Yes you can buy it at health food shops. Yes fitday is great to see how you are going nutritionally.. that's if it is acurate, but at least it give you an idea. I had a look at some powders and tablets at our local Health shop and they ARE expensive, especially organic ones. |
