2  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: Raw Foodists Malnourished? on: Wednesday 24 September, 2008
Hi Brett,
I absolutely agree with you 100%.
I guess what you're saying is that as long as you feel healthy and balanced with a rawfood diet, then thats the main thing (?)
Its all too easy to be swept away with all the information out there about raw, and its all a matter of opinion.
Perhaps a lot can be said about spending that little bit of time with yourself each day and getting to know what your true needs really are Smiley

Thanks naturalrawmama and CarmieJ,
Its so nice to be able to find out a little about you both here. I hope other forum members feel comfortable adding a little about themselves here too.
Fruitbat is a knickname I've had for a VERY long time. Nowdays, as old(er) age creeps in, I'm starting to feel a little fruity(crazy) and batty!  crazy...so I guess Fruitbat fits better now than ever!
I'm sure theres still hope for me though with my transition to raw and then great health.
Hopefully I'll have the courage to post a journal here at Raw Pleasure over the coming weeks with my aweful before pic.  detox BLAGH!

Hi Organic_Girl,
That's fantastic!
I went to your website and emailed the address you have there.
I hope this is the right one. If it is, please email me back and I'll send you my contact details Smiley
Thanks heaps

Hi Everyone,
I'm not sure what everyone's opinion is on genetically modified foods, but I personally think they're dangerous and will be the undoing of mankind in respect to diet and health.
I believe that the human body has its own intelligence and knows the difference between what is good nutrition and bad nutrition.
I believe the body recognises these foods on a cellular basis.
If the dna of a food is changed to something that is not natural, I can't see how our body can recognise it as 'food'. Genetically it just wouldn't be 'acceptable' to our bodies.
I'm sure that this may be an opinion that some would disagree with, however, my opinion remains absolute, as does my faith in Nature.
For those who are interested, here is a link to just some of the genetic research plots around Qld. Mind you, this is data from 2001, so I am guessing that these plots have increased considerably since then.
http://www.genevar.com.au/seedsavers/news/48.html
Already genetic modification of strawberries (I've been told modified with fish dna) is now out in the 'field' so to speak, and is so uncontrolled that there is no way of telling which strawberries on our shelves are modified and which ones are not.
A great arguement to support organic... and heirloom seeds Smiley
Hope this is of some interest to someone on this forum Smiley

Hi Kebbster,
I don't know if this will help you, but with all my reading on raw, the best way I've found to reduce the 'hunger' in a raw diet is to increase greens.
Green smoothies are awesome and I've found that my hunger goes away almost straight away after having one. The more green I use, the less hungry I am.
Mind you, I've only just started my journey to raw too, but this is a very valuable (and proven) little tip I'm taking with me on my way Wink
I also remember reading that true hunger is felt in the mouth...not the stomach.
Do you think that its true hunger you're feeling or just the effects of the transition to raw?
I hope this helps Smiley

8  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: Wheatgrass Juicer Needed Please :) on: Tuesday 23 September, 2008
Thanks for your great suggestion Sweetpea, but I've already got a Champion, Juice Fountain and a Panasonic juicer.
I just find that none of them are suited to juicing single serves of wheatgrass properly.
I need something that is smaller and much more efficient at extracting grass juices and I think the stainless steel wheatgrass hand juicers would last the longest and would be the best thing for this specific job.

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering (for those of us who don't know everyone here) if you would mind saying a little about yourself and your raw life ?
Thanks

Fruitbat:
So far, I'm not raw. I've been reading everything I can get my hands on for the past 8 years or so and have a lot of information going around in my head. I feel like I know a lot about  raw food and the lifestyle, but haven't been able to put it all together yet and put it all into practise.

Yesterday, one of the amazing people from this forum phoned me and gave me some awesome advice (THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH...it was just what I needed  ohyeah) Now I'm feeling even more focussed and ready for a 14 day raw challenge on Friday.

I was raw about 6-7 years ago for only 3 months. In that time I got enough taste for the raw life to want to make it a part of my life, for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, I procrastinated for one reason after another.
I figure that I've run out of excuses and its time to ....Just-Do-It !

I've been reading the forum here for the past week and I've realised how hard some of you have to work to get good quality food...and yet many of you still stay raw.  You're amazing!
In many ways I have it so easy...I just have to walk down to the garden and pick most of my food. I don't have to seek out a source of good pure water...I have rainwater on tap.
I hope that everyone here finds this too. I feel truly blessed Smiley

Thanks to Jenergy's help, I can now post pictures on this forum. So, I plan to keep a running record of my transition to raw and what hopefully will be an amazing weightloss.

I'll finish off by saying that I hope you all have the time to include a little about yourself here. I for one, would love to get to know you all a little more.

juiceup  (yes.. this IS juice NOT beer)

So far, the cheapest I can find a stainless steel wheatgrass juicer is $175.
I think this is a pretty good price, but still way out of my price range.
Hopefully one will come up soon Smiley
11  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: raw as by media on: Monday 22 September, 2008
Hi Kebbster,
I know what you mean.
I sometimes don't know whether to laugh or cry myself.
Tonight this lady's middle child had Twisties for dinner...for the same reason as she gave me before.... "cheese has calcium".
I've taken lots of organic fruits over to her in the past, but she just tells me not to bother as her kids "don't eat fruit" and her "kids can get everything their bodies need from the foods they love"
I feel for her kids, they are always sick and always constipated.
I wish I could do something more, but I guess sometimes things just have to take their course.
12  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: Gold Coast fruit and veg? on: Monday 22 September, 2008
The best quality organic produce I've found  so far is at Beechmont Mountain. It's held each Sunday morning at the old school Smiley
For those interested in organic, this is a great place to check out an absolutely gorgeous organic garden.

They hold some amazing workshops!
Definately worth a Sunday drive in the mountains.
13  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: Weekly shopping list on: Monday 22 September, 2008
Hi Rawgreengodess,

The mandarines are my favourite. There are heaps of seed (which I prefer) and this year there was enough frost to get them really sweet.
I really don't like seedless fruit much. There just seems something wrong with food that can't reproduce.
I could be wrong, but there seems so much more vitality in food that's the way Nature designed it.

The amazing green on the right of the picture (the one with the purple vein down the middle) is one of my favourite greens. It's a variety of kale that tastes very much like peas to me. Smiley

As for the celery at the top right of the pic... it's incredibly strong. Dark green all the way to the roots!I'm not raw yet, so its too strong for me to eat too much of it  straight. I'm taking the easy way out and juicing it for now.  The leaves taste incredible though.

I haven't tried the cabbage yet...I'm reserving that for breakfast Smiley

I sure have heard that Jenergy.
That's a good point too. It'd be interesting to find out if there's been any study about this Smiley
