20k. That's inspiring Grant! Well done. Tell me, do you still break a sweat for that or after your 100km runs is it like a walk in the park for you?

Well I cheated. I ran 7km in the morning and evening and 6km speed/interval running at lunchtime.
Only broke a sweat during the intensity at lunch time Smiley

remember running 20 kms and 30km in thailand

I don't recall you having a problem with leg length, moreso with those crazy dogs Smiley

Today I'm a bananavore!
Banana/green smoothie this morning, bananas late afternoon...hmm what for dinner...I'm definitely getting up an appetite and am about to run back from work.

2. Is all imported food in shops irradiated? Durian from asia etc?

The rumour is that the imported Thai coconuts and durian are dipped in formaldehyde.
Not sure if it's true but they definitely taste different to what they do in Thailand, they certainly aren't fresh and the quality ranges from average to inedible.
Several of us had repeat experiences where imported durian affected us in numerous ways:
- heavy legs running the next day
- dry mouth (even when loaded up on juicy fruits and smoothies)
- dry/itchy eyes
- interrupted sleep

3. Where do I start sourcing locally grown organic durian/coconuts/goji/cacao/noni etc. Are they all available from within the country?

Ask Harley (aka durianrider) which electric fence he recently jumped over near Darwin to get a durian which was apparently good eating.
I just bought a tray of organic mangosteen from the Sydney wholesalers.
Steve recently ordered a pallette of organic coconuts from "Sunrise Coconuts" to the Sydney markets. They worked out about $3 each for around 170 to 200 coconuts. Most were more mature than we would have liked, but the water was good drinking.
Goji, cacao and noni...I've never seen grown in Australia.

4. Anyone have ANY ideas/contacts for where to find someone to teach about identifying/harvesting local wild foods

Bill who runs the shop at Soldiers Beach, Norah Head on the Central Coast knows a lot about bush tucker in the local area.

as i dont do superfoods...the no fruit eating,is impossible
Don't want to get off topic but how would superfoods ever be considered a substitute for fruit?

(He...he...I just remembered a joke someone once showed me on a whiteboard where you insert letters into the word "superfoods"...
       S-t-UP-id-ERFOODS
Sorry if anyone finds that offensive, just playing with letters Smiley

80/10/10 definitely works for me as an athlete.
Will have to wait and see what I'm doing in 10 years, but in 2 years I've taken 5 hours off my time for the first 100km of the GNW100s race.
This was with low km training.
I attribute the improvements to:
- better hydration
- fueling exclusively on low fat, simple carbs from fruit and greens; and
- "almost" getting sufficient sleep (I get a lot more than I used to and am sure that a little more would help).
When I tried racing on avocado I didn't feel very good or perform well.
When I haven't had overt fats and eat fruit during a race, I feel energised within minutes and the energy lasts.
I used to overeat on calories in races, but now await early signs of hunger to appear before eating again and don't have the digestive or fuel issues I used to come across. I think my weakest link is that I still need more nerve energy from sleep leading up to the race (or ideally, to never fall behind on sleep in day to day life).

My race report from the GNW100s on 8-9 Nov is at:

I am just sorry for new people who read 811 and will suffer by lack of quality fat.
My understanding is that in the same way you don't eat eyes to improve your eyes, or eat shark cartilage to improve cartilage, you don't need to eat fat for all the uses of fat in the body (like myelin sheathing). The body creates fat. I understand the body converts sugar to fat quite efficiently. So I don't agree with the logic behind eating undamaged fats and protein to the exclusion of carbs.
Such a diet wouldn't leave much for us to eat in nature, especially given the seasonal nature of nuts, seeds & fruit.

Quote
Doughy is basicaly just Pritikin gone raw, nothing else.
I find this is a ridiculous unqualified statement.
If you believe this, you need to reread "The 80/10/10 Diet".
Pritikin promoted grains. Pritikin didn't promote natural hygiene. The list goes on...

I find belittling language unnecessary like:

Doughy

The names he goes by are Dr Graham, Doug, Dr D.

I am genuinely interested in the results of your undamaged fats, no carb experiment, but will be more interested when you have been doing it successfully for years (like Doug has with the 80/10/10 lifestyle).

Keep us posted on what you achieve.

Thanks! I sorta thought this might be the case, but will try cutting quantity. I hate not having the fibrous bits, they look at me with all the loving energy in them and cry 'don't throw me out, eat me! eat me!'

It was liberating the day I finally learned that it is better to compost excess food in nature than to compost it in our bodies.

Wow, I ate nearly 5kg of cucumber yesterday!!!

Right now I'm practicing breatharianism...until my next meal Smiley

Oranges got so round because of Darwin's law of natural selection of course.
The rounder they are the further they can roll from the tree to find fertile soil to grow a new tree.
...no dependence on seed spreaders. Humans are redundant. That's why we're dying out. Nature has no purpose for us anymore.

Orange ya glad I didn't say the orange god/dess Smiley

Ouch. Hitting the forum? Giving it a punch!!! What's wrong with a loving caress Grant? LOL.

Bliss balls and a choc fudge bar. Yum!

I dusted off my juicer and decided that I will juice my greens for a while instead of blending them.
Blending greens so far has made me a little nauseous.
But I never know what to do with the left over fibre - it seems like such a waste of good stuff!

Maybe cut back slightly on the quantity and you won't feel nauseous?
When you throw out the fibre you also throw out other good stuff like antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and various phytonutrients (plant nutrients).
I think juicing's alright time to time but it's refining of food and I find that always leads to imbalanced nutrition (like omega 3/6 out of whack, etc)...but of course there can be reasons like compromised digestion where juicing can be optimal at least for the short term (...oops, gone off on a tangent)

Bananas!

...and I'm up for cucumber soup straight after work!
(work = hitting the raw pleasure forum Smiley

That was so funny. Once the little fish got the taste of durian they almost turned into pirahna and started munching on everything! ...well maybe not everything Smiley

Wouldn't it be better to be the licker than the lickee?
I reckon the salty taste would go really well with mango  laugh
15  Locally RAW / Australia & New Zealand / Re: Leb Cucumbers at bargain price in Sydney on: Monday 17 November, 2008
Much nicer to get the nutty flavour in a crisp, juicy form without all the fat Smiley
