17  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Raw Pregnancy and Kids / Re: Breastmilk and food combining on: Sunday 29 July, 2007
I can't imagine why what you give her after bm should be a problem but I would steer clear of anything too heavy, ie. fats, grains, and stick to fresh fruit. How long after feeding does she want food? This  could make a difference to the digestive systems ability to cope if she is sensitive in this way. Breast milk is the most balanced food there is, imo, but I guess being a liquid should have a digestive time like anything else. I cannot see that  to give her cooked food instead would in any way improve her dental problems so I would personally stick to the raw.

Hi,

You probably have plenty of ideas to try but here's another one anyway, you could use a flat bread and include an increasing amount of greens over time with other veg that she likes, then remove the bread, just giving her a salad here and there so she is gradually getting used to less bread and more salad and greens, etc ? May be worth a try? Keep us posted on what you try and what works for you.

Well, I made a variation myself today. ohyeah
I used 1/3C lemon juice and 1/3C apple juice, zest of 1/2 lemon, 5 medjool dates, 1C sunflower seeds and 1 1/2t curry powder, 3/4C water, 1T olive oil, 2 cloves garlic, 1 bunch dill frills and a handful of loose baby spinach and salt. They aren't dehydrated yet but taste very yum!! Not all the fam liked the lemon so hopefully these will suit the rest.  If not I know for sure that I will def enjoy them. Have not seen a lot of these posts and will have to try some of the other recipes too. These are such a hit, Jen! I'm thinking of trying spinach leaves too as they are very nutritious also.

24  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Raw Pregnancy and Kids / paediatrician help on: Monday 25 June, 2007
Hey there,
Does anyone know of a good paed in Brisbane or someone you trust who could recommend one? My doc is concerned DJ has early fontanel closure and wants me to see someone. She has faxed the public hospital but I don't really want to go there, would rather do my own thing. So if someone could help that would be great! laugh
25  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Raw Pregnancy and Kids / Re: baby sleeping help! on: Friday 22 June, 2007
Hey Katie,
For what it's worth, your babe will only be bf for so long and then it's all over so does it really matter? My little man will often go to sleep on boob but almost as often will refuse as if saying I'm not hungry I just want to sleeep!!! and will drop off in my arms, and often sleep there too or I put him in the sling so I can get some things done! He sleeps well at night from about 8:30/9:30pm.
Remember too that number of hours sleep varies from baby to baby as do all other things about them vary. Just go with what she needs in the here and now keeping in sight your optimum for your family. What suits one family won't suit another. Love and respect your needs too. If she sleeps 2hrs in the arvo then make sure you do too if in need then you can handle the later night it may bring. On occasion I have had to lay David in bed with me and turn out the light. He will wriggle for a bit and mostly drop off on his own. Next thing I know it's morning.
Relax most of all. You will never have all the answers and that comes from a mother of 8. You just try different things till something works. Hindsight is a marvellous thing.

Actually, I don't feel I have the energy I could. Yes I know I have 8 children but you still expect to function reasonably well. My inside eyelids are pale which I have been told about b4. How is one not able to absorb the iron in gs's?? huh Must say I agree about the 'norms' of doctors. I asked about B12 tests and she wondered if there were any other issues she needed to know about rolleyes
Sorry to hear bout the court papers, og. Is e'thing going ok? Hugs anyway, we can all use them, eh? Party was gr8 thanks.

Jen, no nettles in my diet. What do they do? Are there any other symptoms of iron lack that you could know without getting it checked?
28  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Green smoothies and iron levels on: Thursday 21 June, 2007
Hi everyone,
I had to visit my doc today and she told me that my bp is extremely low like 80 s'thing over 50 s'thing and is probably related to baby birthing which lowers the iron hence bp is affected. I have no problem understanding this, however what doesn't make sense to me is that I drink 1 3/4 to 2 litres of gs each day with a heap of greens in it. It is jam packed with a selection of lettuce, kale, celery, parsley, spinach. Nothing else fits till I blend that with water then in goes the fruit. Should my body not have absorbed plenty of iron already? Any help from you knowledgeable folk would be appreciated.

For what it's worth I always was aware of kale as a calcium rich food. Would this be right, Jen?

Well I'll be at the Brisbane one with hubby. Anyone else going to make it to that one? Would have come to the Gold Coast one but already have plans for that night.
