Ok, i know this isnt technically about raw food but my skin isn't excellent yet. its improving but i still like some coverage for redness, etc especially for nicer occassions. ive heard that mineral makeup is better than conventional stuff. any experience with this?
the reason i brought this subject up is bc i have been on some forums where the people are as i described: entranced by raw laws and everything else. i like these forums because the people here seem to have a healthier mental approach.
i personally try not to get caught up in everything by avoiding labeling myself too much. i call myself a vegetarian mostly because ever since i was little i have not liked meat that much, it grosses me out, so at one point i gave it up all together. i also think its more responsible to eat a plant based diet because of world hunger issues, etc. however, i am not a vegetarian in the sense that that is not who "i am". i am me, i am a human being. i guess technically one could call me a vegan. eating dairy for the most part makes me sick to my stomach (lactose intolerance, and i dont like eggs) but occasionally i have some dairy or something. i dont call my self a raw foodist as some people do either bc i eat cooked food now and then. most people dont call themselves cooked foodists. heck, it sounds kind of weird even to call oneself a "foodist." all human beings are "foodists." we all need food to survive. so essentially i just like to say i try to eat a lot of whole, natural foods. i'll more likely have an aversion to the eating habits of a vegan who eats all packaged, processed stuff than a non-vegetarian who uses lots of whole foods, makes home cooked recipes, etc.
ok, i think raw is a great idea. i feel better on it and there are a lot of things we can learn from the raw food movement. however, does anyone get the feeling that some people treat it almost as like a religion?? i mean, yea, they dont come right out and say "i worship you raw God" but they act as if it is the answer to all their problems, that they are now better human beings, more spiritual and superior than other human beings. they chalk up every problem they have had in life to "evil" cooked food and plan, calculate, measure every percentage of what types of raw foods they eat. yea, they likely have healthier bodies, but they are making so much of their new found happiness come just from their new appearances and health. they promote the lie that eating raw will make you eternally happy and that you could never be happy eating cooked food. i have my days where i feel low and depressed regardless of what im eating. im not saying ALL raw fooders are like this, but many are. what do you guys think???
breakfast: usually a berry smoothie w/ milled flax seed, raw honey and raw cacao powder. snack: fresh fruit or veggies, sometimes nuts, raw granola bar lunch: raw burrito: raw guacamole, raw salsa on sprouted corn tortillas dinner: raw fruit and nut salad w/ raw honey or sandwich on sprouted grain bread or raw "pasta" and sauce or raw pizza or something dessert: raw chocolate pudding or raw chocolates or fruit or something else
and some days i eat like 90% fruit and some nuts. i just eat mostly pretty much what i want as long as its raw and vegan. i try not to be obsessive/fanatic about it. i used to have an eating disorder so its good to have non obsessive relationship with food now. i know some raw foodists who basically have orthorexia (obsession with healthy eating). they "have" to eat a certain percentage of fat, they calculate the percentages of everything all the time, are fanatical about food combining and chalk every life issue up to what they are eating or as an indicator that they should be eating better. i feel like all they talk about it raw food and exercise! anywho, live, relax, enjoy good healthy raw food and don't make it the center of your life.
Has anyone experienced improvements or elimination of stretch marks and cellulite with the raw diet? I have some cellulite, and i believe it is slowly going away. Anyone know how long it generally takes? i would love it to be gone by summer (in like 5 months). I have white stretchmarks that aren't too noticeable on my bum but i would love for them to clear up or improve as well. should i rub some oil on them to help? thanks for any help.
thanks for the welcome everyone. just wanted to update.
one reason im liking raw is because its helping me to overcome my physological issues with food. when i was eating cooked food i had disordered eating. in high school i was on/off starving myself and had binges every so often. it didn't really affect my weight. however, when i got to college i was binging nonstop. it was really driving me crazy. i would eat like 4 desserts after a full dinner. i remember i ate like 7 desserts one day. i would range around the dorm asking people if they had food saying how "hungry" i was even if i was full. i would eat and eat even if i was painfully full. i never felt like i could get enough. i even wanted to binge on so called healthy stuff like tofu, cooked pasta, etc. i couldnt comprehend how people could be satisfied after one dessert. i just wanted more and more. i think its because yes i was eating a lot of volume and calories and fat but nutritionally i wasnt getting much. since going raw i haven't had a single binge. im just so satisfied nutritionally. heck, even if i eat something and still have a big of a hungry feeling in my belly, my urge to eat stops because nutritionally im satisfied. when im done eating now, food leaves my mind, im not constantly thinking "when can i eat next, when can i eat next!" maybe my blood sugar levels have stabilized?? idk. its nice to be able to think and focus and devote myself to other things than food though. honestly the binging made my 1st semester of college really difficult. it affected my grades and everything i just felt so disgusted with myself. and it didnt help that i had a roommate that had issues with eating too and she was like my best friend. me and her would both eat large amounts of unhealthy food. i remember me and here would go out to restaurants all the time, eat large amounts of food and then go the grocery store and buy pies, candy, etc and just eat sooo much....
I eat ezekial/genesis bread/ tortillas, etc fairly often. I don't know how raw they are considered but im sure they are better than regular bread. I haven't experienced any issues with them. If anything i feel incorporating them has made me more regular in the bowel department. anyone have any issues for against them?
i eat oats, i havent experienced any odd feelings, bloat etc. however when i eat cooked oatmeal i do get bloated, and often binge on it too.
i eat old wessex ltd. 100% natural whole grain irish style oats. actually i dont even think they are rolled. it just says 100% natural whole irish oats on the label so i figure they are raw.
im on my 8th day raw. i'm 5'4, 125 lbs, 18 years old. im a freshman in college. why am i doing this? i have had acne and skin issues since 9th grade. plus i gained like 15 lbs at college. im still at a healthy weight but i have a very small frame and it doesnt look so good (a.ka. cellulite, belly flub, etc). im trying to get back to 110 but am doing it the healthy raw way. i want to be healthier and happier.
i eat mainly: raw fruits and veggies, raw nuts, raw seeds, dried fruit, raw coconut, raw oils like coconut, flaxseed, etc, raw honey, raw cheeses once in a while, raw chocolate!, rolled oats, and whatever else i desire as long as its not cooked. so far i feel more energetic, less depressed, not bloated, better bowel movements, improvment in skin and cellulite. and my cravings for junk are going away.
