31  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: recommended reading??? on: Monday 10 December, 2007
The two best books I have read are:

1. The Health Revolution by Ross Horne ( You can find it complete online at www.soilandhealth.org)

2. Eat to Live by Joel Fuhrman
(A qualified M.D. who has raised a vegan Family and focuses on the concept of nutrient density)

Both books will interest readers with a scientific disposition.

Regards,
Neo.

Thanks, looks interesting!

Can it handle whole fruits and vegetables like the Vitamix?

Brett.
33  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / A cheaper alternative to the Vitamix Blender? on: Saturday 08 December, 2007

Many talk about the Vita-Mix blender as the best choice but who can afford one?

Looking for a cheaper but comparable alternative that will feed my body without starving my wallet.

Has anyone tried the Power Mill blender?

I would be interested to hear of your experience.

Anyone know how the Power Mill compares with the Vta-Mix?

Thanks,
Neo.

Food for thought:

Personal Observations: All of our fruits have been hybridized to one end - to taste better - and where fruit is concerned that means more sweetness and less fibre. Mangoes are a great case in point. The generic "turpentines" are stringy, fibrous and relatively bland compared to hybrids such as the Kensington pride - relatively little fibre and beautifully sweet. I call them fruit candy. The nutritional value has become greatly diluted in those sweet fructose calories.

Also fruit is seasonal by nature and it is only our refrigerated transport and storage infrastructure that allows us to enjoy it year round wherever you may live in the world.

Raw does not mean natural and deviation from the natural archetype typically leads to undesirable health consequences. This is classically seen with cows milk and wheat products - a return to the original generic unhybridised form typically resolves health consequences often associated with these products. E.g. primitive type A milk and spelt breads.

Some researchers look at foods in terms of nutrient density per calories. Green grasses and vegetables typically score highest here providing the most nutrients packaged in the least amount of calories and therefore providing the most nutritional benefit.

Brian Clements of the Hippocrates Health Institute states that they have experienced a 3 to 6 times speed increase in the healing of patients since eliminating fruit from their menus. Instead he focuses on sprouts and green drinks and “superfoods” with the highest nutrient value and wheatgrass grows all year round.

He lives on this same diet himself.

Food combinig can also be a crucial factor. Eating different food types at one meal can interfere with carbohydrtae metabolism resulting in insulin spikes which tax the pancreas and results in a whole medley of undesirable matobolic consequences.

Man has altered the face of the planet so it has become lost in time. We live in an unnatural world and an unnatural environment living unnatural lives, consuming unnatural produce in an unnatural manner unlike the other animals of this planet which live in a simple manner in an environment that remains relatively unaltered.

35  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: favourite raw books of 2006 on: Thursday 25 January, 2007
smiley I am laughing in delight as I read this. Don't know how many of you guys (and gals) are Aussies but it it still tickles me pink to see book lists such as this posted on an Aussie Site. Well Done.

I lean towards documented scientific research in my reading. The Health Revolution is an old favourite and I still consider it to be the most well researched and comprehensively documented book I have ever had the pleasure of reading. I was instrumental in having the complete book published online at soilandhealth.org:

http://www.soilandhealth.org/02/0201hyglibcat/020121horne/020121toc.html

I consider the research documented in The China Study to be of critical importance. Animal protein 100 times more potent than the most powerful chemical carcinogen and elevates cholesterol regardless of fat consumption.

Ed McCabes books on Oxygen Therapies are really good as was Sea Energy Agriculture by Dr. Maynard Murray which was recently reprinted due to popular demand. These provide pivotal information on personal health, agriculture and the environment.

Hav just ordered the last 2 sets of vegsource DVD,s and am looking hard at the Hippocrates DVD set but that mght have to wait for another splurge.

Anyone have the Hippocrates DVD set and care to comment?
