Hi, and congratulations on your pregnancy. I'm 32 weeks pregnant with my third child (exciting despite lots of nausea etc). My opinion (and is just an opinion) is that the body gets rid of any excess vitamins it doesn't need, so even if I take a supplement (which I choose to) then my body knows what to do with any excess. Folic acid and iron are the main ones that your prenatal carer will care about, and especially the folic acid has been shown to help prevent defects and the iron helps with your energy levels and to prevent excess bleeding (I think- during and after birth). Combined with your healthy diet, you can't go wrong. My other idea with taking their advice is that I make waves only when I truly think it matters (for me this is not immunising at birth and not giving me any drugs I don't want- I have 'easy births' so don't take that as judgement if you need or want pain releif ). Agh such a minefield isn't it?! Enjoy your pregnancy and read everthing you can get your hands on. Hope this helps you in some way.
Hi, I was just having a browse and happened on this site. Don't know if anyone else has already found and mentioned it, but thought it was worth a mention. I just watched a couple of raw chefs create some food. It was great to see it in action. Enjoy.
Hi, I'm a little dubious to write anything as at best I would label myself as "love to be raw" but constantly fail and eat anything. BUT, I am in Tassie, and I eat raw for stints of time and absolutely believe it is the way to be. I'm holding out for summer fruits at the moment. Apples can only do me for so long. Blood oranges have been around this year which has been great. Any particular raw goodies found by anyone else in the state? I'd love to hear about them.
I would suggest cutting up some beautiful fresh fruit, such as watermelon, grapes, bananas, strawberries etc. These might be appealing (especially for the youngest children) and will not be too heavy if they are very slight. I also agree simple combo smoothies would be great. What about some date/nut cookies? I use cashews wizzed until fine, a huge squeeze of lemon juice and maybe 8 dates. Process until clumped, then roll into biscuit shapes. Eat as is or dehydrate until chewy. These are pretty yummy and packed with goodness. Goodluck to your friend. Oh, what about taking the kids to a veggie shed (or the like) and letting them each pick a fruit they might like to try, gives them back a bit of power hopefully.
I haven't used it in the same way as wasabi, but I have purchased minced horseradish (raw???) which could probably be used in much the same way as wasabi. Does anyone know if it is hard to grow?
Nori filled with 1/4 an avocado and a swipe of wasabi, topped with finely shredded green cabbage, 1/3 julienned cucumberand MINT leaves. This was delicious and refreshing. Two of these was a perfect lunch. Enjoy.
Ages since I'v written. Going ok. Sticking with raw until tea and then having tea with a high proplortion raw. Last night had Sheryl's recipe of indian spiced broccoli. Utterly delicious. I was kind enough to share it as a salad topper with my family, but the boy's didn't enjoy it. That's fine with me, all the more for me. Shared my halvah with friends . . . who enjoyed it right down to the last morsel. Tempted not to share, no not really, I love seeing friends and family enjoy things that are good for them. It's also nice to be able to 'cook' for people. That was one of my main problems when starting out, how could I continue to be hospitable? I continued cooking cooked food, but then would succumb to eating it. My new tack is to 'create' and enjoy along side them. So far so good. My custard apple was a disaster. I thought i had been patient, but alas hard centre, soft near the skin and towards the core. Ate what I could, but still no good. I'll stick to persimmons. Woolworths couldn't find the code for them and ended giving me 4 for free today, even though I told them what they were and the price. Mangos are also in the stores. Being in Tasmania, tropical fruit is such a luxury. I thought I would try to grow a persimmon tree or 4. Not sure, have to research some more. Green smoothies of water, spinach, raspberries and a banana. Great. Didn't even need stevia or agave today. I'm finding if I have that then a piece of fruit later in the morning I'm good for the day. I also need to read a little every day to keep inspired and not get slack. Discipline. I read of everyone who seems to breathe through, I want to eat this way, no actually live this way, I so believe in it. Sunshine, prayer, praise, exercise, living food, love. It is so simple to write it. . .
Highlights: My Dad's figs! and alfalfa sprouts becoming a staple. Parsnip in sushi.
I have been listening to some teaching cds and sat down in response to write my purpose. Mine is to love God, love those around me and inspire others to greatness. My life has to line up with that. My life isn't my circumstances (tiredess!!!!!). The last part for me includes supporting others to become their best. I'm surrounded with great people, I need energy to support them. I need to eat to live.
I just made the ginger snap bars. The scrapings tasted delish. Bars are in the freezer. I added soaked dates, almonds (both ground and chopped, cinnamon and ginger and blend away. Yummo. I also made a raison and coconut concoction- not good, very sweet, I think the kids will eat them. I put them in patty pans so they look like party food pity about the taste! I kept adding things to try to make them better agh, what a waste. I also made chocolate halvah. The ginger snaps were my favourite. Highly suggest trying them if you are transitioning. Diabra
Thanks Sheryl, I will post my experiments. I like the idea of having easy treats in the cupboard to choose when I want something that isn't good for me. Also for the children. Thanks again, muchly appreciated. Diabra
I'm a little unsure as to the proper process for submitting a recipe sorry, haven't read whole thread. What about a filled chocolate? I have posted the idea before in one of Miss G's choc recipe posts. I make a basic choc recipe of cocoa, coconut oil and agave and pour into molds, swirling until coated and freeze. Fill shells with a mixture of avocado, cocoa, agave and grated orange rind blended. Then just top up with more choc and freeze. Alternatives, a little grated ginger, mint leaves ground to a paste, dried fruits(cherries mmmmm). I'm sure it would be better (not needing the freezer) with cocoa butter, but alas, I haven't tried it yet. A huge hit with everyone, especially with anyone who is partial to soft centre chocolates.
Welcome Arthur! Miss G, enjoy the honeymoon period, may it continue for a very long time and be a prosperous relationship. I look forward to the creative recipe posts in the near future. Enjoy your 'guided' reading.
I can't smell the custard apple yet, it is going black, the skin isn't pliable yet, no fermentation. waiting, waiting. . . .almost out of persimmons Today I'm going well. Started with pilates (husband and children went for a jog!) then peppermint tea. A green juice of celery, cucumber, 2 apples, and a lemon- shared with my boys. Bible reading, feeding my kids a pack of mini red capsicums (99cents- bargain). I feel like wonder mum this morning. Exercise, healthy food choices, time with God, parenting, can you hear my roar? Managed to keep focussed despite three phonecalls, and have had the neighbours child arrive for a play. Love it when I feel balanced. Better keep moving before the next lot of kids arrive. I thought i should prepare a platter of cut up fruit, so I don't find an 'easier' option later with many in the house. Hope everyones day is running as smoothly. Oh, AND the sun is finally shining, at least for now. Diabra
