That sounds like a great idea. What about an online mag (no waste, no publishing issues) like the one that Jingee from the garden diet started - although i feel like their online mag is a bit more like advertising other raw businesses sometimes - i didn't find it particularly valuable for me.
I also would be interested in wildfoods - perhaps an interview with aborigines would provide some useful insights into Australian plants/ berries etc. what about reviews of good books. Also just reading a book on soil fertility etc in Australia, which is really crucial if any of us are to have great health.
Like everyone else when i pay the extra for certified organic produce I want the real deal ......
...so I heard yesterday from a lady who spoke to one of the employees of Macro (whose wholesaler is Eco farms)) that the Bondi Junction store has been busted 4 times for selling non-organic produce as organic (so, what about the other xxxx times that they did not get caught?). This doesn't include the fact that i heard something similar from : (i) a farmer. (ii) an ex eco-farms employee, (iii) a retailer (not in competition with Macro)!!! So it does make you think....
Hi Paul. Can i ask where you are studying the Permaculture course? Also, when you use the raw eggs in your smoothies, do you add them to the fruit/green smoothies or some other type of smoothie. I've got 3 little ones 3 years old and under, and have been thinking about adding raw eggs and yoghurt or kefir into their diet.
Hadn't seen your posts before on this forum, but you are definitely inspiring for two young guys!!
I would avoid eco-farms as i have heard some dodgy stories about them (selling conventional as organic) from a couple of sources etc etc
eb and back to eden are on the same street (turn right at the street after the left hand turn off parramatta rd to Sydney Markets (sorry forgot what it is called)). Go down that street, which then turn left. Back to Eden is just on the corner there on your left (it has no proper signage, but name marked on shed with some paint). EB is on the same street, on your left - usually closes earlier than back to eden, which is open until 10am, that's why i like it as it is hard to get out there on time with 3 kids!!
Has anyone else read Weston Price's work on Indigenous cultures, showing pictures of tribes before and after the introduction of 'modern' junk foods. I now look at people's faces in a different light. Sheryl referred to his work in a post a while ago.
One of the things he mentions in his book (written in 1930s) is that he did not find any indigenous tribes without teeth carries/ some jaw abnormalities who ate only plant foods - that is he advocated some milk (raw, not pasteurised, etc) and /or fish and/or meat (preferably offal only). I realise this is a vegan forum (and I'm one of them), but i was interested if anyone had had any positive or negative experiances with eating raw milk/fish/meat/egg in their diet in an earlier life (so to speak). I thought this was an interesting obsevartion.
I also went to back to eden yesterday just before closing again (eb was closed already). This time I got a few bargains, like 13kg of ripe bananas for $10 and spinach for $1/each. I also got rockmelons, dates and sultanas in bulk - the rockmelons are biodynamic and taste fabulous.
Cee, have you thought about trying to get fruit and veg transported to your straight from the wholesalers. perhaps you can see if others living near you would be interested in this idea, that way you can split the freight cost.
Now that I'm thinking about this, is there anyone on this forum that would be interested in sharing freight cost to have fruit/ greens transported from the organic wholesaler to Sydney eastern suburbs say once a week? You can PM me if you like.
I went to Back to Eden on Monday and got a box of apples, oranges, 2 trays of mangoes and 10kg apricots! I will be going back next week for sure, although i don't think i got the fruit as cheap as you Harley - paid the list price.
I did ask about seconds/ too ripe fruit and they said yes they sometimes have this available but since i got there at 5 minutes before closing i did not want to be too fussy - better than paying retail the day before Xmas.
I have been getting wholesale boxes through a co-op I'm part of and also Cathie from Central Coast Organics but if i have the time I prefer going there myself to see what's available.
Hi Erthmum I was just reading your post on 5 Dec regarding your kids and your hubby. ...It sounds very much like my kids and hubby at the moment, which makes thinks a tad complicated, when you have to prepare raw and cook all for one meal!! He's very supportive of my choices and those i have made for the twins (100% raw, 1 year old) and my eldest (3 year old) who is now more than 50% raw, some days as high as 80%. It would be easier if everyone tried raw, i'd have more time to try new raw recipes, ideas and have more enthusiasm about it. At the moment things are very simple on the food front.
But its comforting to read I'm not the only one in that situation!!
Thank you so much for your reply. i will go and have a look tomorrow morning if I make it out of here on time with my 3 little ones.
I think I saw you walking out the front of Macro bondi junction this afternoon. I recognised you from the RP photo; but then you know sometimes you're not sure that's the person. Anyhow then i turned around and saw 'Raw Vegan' on the back of your t-shirt, which confirmed it!!
Anyhow, thanks again for the advice. Even the guy running the 'Dr Earth' shop down the road couldn't quite help me with the location of the wholesalers.
Where exactly within the Sydney Flemington markets is the organic produce sold? it is such a large place and I've only gone to the retail section in section D.
This topic may be a repeat of a previous topic, but....
wanted to find out if anyone other than Harley had experienced a change in their eye colour (i.e to blue) and if anyone had had their hair change colour since they've gone raw and if so, how long after going raw did this happen ?
Neither my husband nor i have blue eyes at the moment all 3 of our kids do - i'm wondering one of us is really supposed to have blue eyes which is masked by the junk we have eaten since we were born - bottle fed, etc, etc ?
My twins (now 11 months old) have been totally raw since birth (expect for a couple of meals here and there that the in-laws or my husband has fed them). They currently have 3 meals a day plus 3 breastfeeds plus a feed during the night.
95% of the time they have a mixture of green smoothies, cut fruit (watermelon is particularly popular at the moment), blended fruit, avocados, young coconut, a few vegies such as carrot, sweet potato, cucumber, capsicum pre-chewed by me or given as sticks for them to chew. I also make raw homous, nut milks and other nut based recipes the other 5% of the time. Sometimes they will eat things and other times they won't - depends on the day. The only fruit they have not liked so far is pawpaw.
These nutrient-dense Kalamata olives are recommended in the book "Raw Power!" as a strength-building food. They are packed in pure water, garlic, oregano, cayenne pepper and a little celtic sea salt. [Click Here to Learn More...]
