1  Go RAW! The Testimonial Section! / RAW Journals - Your RAW Experiences / Re: Greenmum Goes Raw on: Tuesday 22 January, 2008
Must admit I find it hard in the UK especially during the winter to be raw, although others may not.
Fruit when I'm hungry just doesn't fill me up and I don't want to eat fruit all the time because of the suger content.  I'm more inspired in the warm weather to eat raw and healthily.  I get fed up with salads when it's cold outside and avo wraps in romaine leaves.

Perhaps if i was higher or 100% raw I would feel better and more capable but for now I just carry on doing the best I can from day to day.  eg for breakfast I had a thick green smoothie at 9.30am after 30mins of yoga.  Then  6 dried dates.  Had some avo mashed up with coriander & lemon juice & salt with toms & cuke stuffed into romaines with orange juice at 12.30 when I was starving.  Now I just got home from work and stuffed with a slice of homemade vegan banana loaf and a cup of tea  Sad

Hello and welcome Greenmum!

I em enjoying reading your thread here and seeing your progress.

I am about 80% raw.  Raw all day with a cooked family meal.  Roll on the British summer (HAH!!  rolleyes) when it's much easier here to eat fresh and raw.

3  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: Supermarket fruit up to a year old on: Monday 21 January, 2008
In the UK there is a strong supermarket culture with the odd farmers market popping up perhaps once a month in a town.  There seems to be a real struggle to find local growers willing and able to sell their produce locally.

I have started buying my fresh produce from a local market stall - I don;t know if the produce is kept or stored any differently, and hardly any of it is organic unfortunately, but I just hate giving my money to these supermarkets that rule the world.
4  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Recipes - Drinks / Re: Icy drinks on a hot hot day on: Sunday 20 January, 2008
You should appreciate that heat guys!  Here in Blighty, its cold, raining and windy so I would swap you!  Mind you we have a roaring coal fire going so that is nice and cheery. laugh

I can't stand really icy drinks even when it's really hot - I prefer them cool or room temp.  Too cold and it feels like it chills my stomach.

I made some lovely watermelon smoothies last summer though, sometimes adding a strawberring or so and other times adding some grapes.  ohyeah

9  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Recipes - Meals & Snacks / Re: Inspire me with salads!! on: Friday 16 November, 2007
I made this for supper last night:

Kale & Avocado Salad
(Karen Knowler, UK raw foodist)

Cut stems out of kale leaves then shred into 1cm strips, fill a bowl, it shrinks down later.
Pour some olive oil over and massage into kale.

Add pinch of rock/celtic salt and massage again.
[The salt & oil help the kale to wilt and become soft and pliable]

Add 1/2 or 1 avocado and squeeze in with your hands.

Add chopped cherry tomatoes
Add some green onions chopped small
Add 1/2 lemon juice and stir in.
I also added some chopped cuke
You can add more of what you like celery, grated carrot??

Really tasty  ohyeah
10  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: Not 100% and want to be? on: Monday 12 November, 2007
I'm critical that way when it comes to raw too......when I achieve 100% raw, I'm wonderful; when I don't, I'm weak and a failure.

I just heard something on the radio saying that Americans hardly ever use the word 'failure'.
Replace failure with 'getting feedback'.

12  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: best place for raw (in the world) on: Monday 12 November, 2007
...It's not the UK imo.

From recent figures, by 2050, 50% of the UK population will be obese.
There is a huge obesity problem in the UK right now. Sad
13  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: your shopping trolley.... on: Monday 12 November, 2007
P.S.

I visit the fresh produce section first with my trolley and pile it in - then get demoralized buying other c**p that my family want to eat, crisps/chips, frozen waffles, fruit squash, chocolate, frozen veggie mince etc etc.
Then of course there are the essentials, kitchen/toilet paper, cat food, cleaning products, toiletries..... those are the things that send my grocery bill flying.

15  FAQ - Check Here for the most common Answers! / Raw Food FAQ / Re: Omega 3 on: Monday 12 November, 2007
Omega-6 fats are found in vegetable oils, such as corn, soy, sunflower and safflower. The richest dietary source of omega-3 fats is cold-water fish, such as salmon. There are plant sources, and flax seed is among the highest.

I found the above.
