Hey, wow!! That is excellent  yahh

Thanks so much - I practically live on Google and didn't even think to look - smart thinking!

Well, that's wonderful. I'm glad to hear a bit of processed is ok to try to get going.  Those recipes sound really good and I'll try a few variations until I get just the right taste/consistency. Man, I could live on Chockie Crackles at the moment but I know they are doing me no good. So if I can switch to raw/raw-ish I'll be much happier.

Really glad I posted here.

Thanks rawconnection!!!

Hi everyone,

I haven't been on here for ages... I know chocolate crackles don't exactly fit in the raw food category  rolleyes but I was wondering if it might be possible to make them 'pretty much raw' or if that's just not possible. Of course when you are using cooked ingredients like rice bubbles well they just aren't raw but... I'm trying to shift gradually and have been making the proper ones and wondered if you could swap ingredients to get an almost raw version.

For example.. the recipe is for 4 cups of Rice Bubbles, 1 cup icing sugar, 1 cup of desicated coconut and 3 tablespoons of cocoa and then 250g copha just melted over a low heat and all mixed together.

So I was wondering what I could put in instead - could I use Coconut Butter in place of the copha or can you not heat/melt it at all? Would it work as well do you think as the copha?

I could put maybe some raw cacao for the cocoa and I guess real coconut shredded for the desiccated one (not that I even know what desicated is...)

The sugar... hmm. I know that's not a good ingredient. What could go in instead?

The reason I started making chockie crackles was to stop myself eating cadburys chocolate, but raw would be better - I wonder how raw I could get with crackles and not lose the yumminess.

4  FAQ - Check Here for the most common Answers! / Raw Food FAQ / Re: Which raw chocolate? on: Friday 06 July, 2007
Thanks everyone for your help and advice.

I am on 2 weeks holidays at the moment and decided that I would go raw while on holidays so I have a head start when the normal routine starts again, but then I just got stuck every day with the same old coke/chocolate thing and that just blew the raw food for me cause I would go eat all kinds of other food as well as the coke just makes me want all the other bad food to go with it.. .maccas and kfc, chips, you name it...

The receipes you've given me sound great and I will give them all a try.

I have come down with a really bad cold since I wrote my initial post, so I'm gonna try going cold turkey with the coke and chocolate and been making almond milk banana smoothies and trying to eat lots of oranges and bananas, apples and some strawberries to help get over my cold faster - and hopefully this will be my chance to quit the junk food as I don't feel too much like it right now.

I hate having a cold, but figure that I may as well try to get off the coke as my taste buds are out of whack now.

I am glad to know that I am not the only person who's had/having troubles with these kind of addictions. I didn't want to write about it at first as I thought people will think I am nuts, but your kind answers made me feel like I am not so nutty at all.

So, thanks again folks, I will keep on with as much raw food as I can and just hope the head cold makes the cravings weaker.

5  FAQ - Check Here for the most common Answers! / Raw Food FAQ / Which raw chocolate? on: Tuesday 03 July, 2007
Hi everyone,

I have a life-long addiction to chocolate and coca-cola and I've been trying to change to raw food for ages but can't seem to give up the coke & chocolate downcast.

I was thinking that maybe if I buy some raw chocolate it might help get me past the addiction to cadbury's.  I am not sure what the raw chocolate tastes like but I did read that cacao is more like dark chocolate, which I don't like too much. I wondered if someone can tell me if any of them (powder, butter, nibs etc) is like milk chocolate in taste and, if not, is there something I can mix together with any of these forms of cacao to get the same kind of taste as milk chocolate to help with cravings?

If anyone has any ideas on helping get off the coke as well I would appreciate it. Been drinking it for years and it's almost as bad as trying to quit smoking to give it up.

Thanks

6  FAQ - Check Here for the most common Answers! / Raw Food FAQ / Can I still use Almonds soaked for a week? on: Sunday 03 June, 2007
Hi all,

I haven't made any raw food for ages because I just got too busy. Lately I decided to try to get back to it and started making some raw recipes again. I am not really sure about what I can and can't do with raw food in regards to storage. I am never sure if the food need to be refrigerated to keep after the recipes are made and how long things will keep. Usually I do put everything in the fridge just to be sure anyway. But I do realise that raw foods probably keep better and don't get affected by the elements quite as badly as cooked foods.

Anyway, my question today is kind of related to the whole storage and longevity thing. I put some almonds into filtered water to soak for the day about a week ago and was going to make almond milk but I was too tired to bother so they just sat in the water (out of the fridge) for about another day.

Then I ran more water through them and got rid of the old water and then re-filled the container with more filtered water and this time I stuck them in the fridge. This is where they have stayed until today when I pulled them out.

So they've basically soaked outside the fridge for say 2 days, had the water changed and then in the fridge without having the water changed again for another say 4 - 5 days.

They seem ok (a little slimy before rinsing) but I'm not sure if they would have been affected in a bad way from soaking for that long. I don't really want to throw them away BUT I don't want to make anything out of them (nut milk or the pulp) if there's a chance that they are not going to be ok to use now.

Would these almonds still be ok or is it better to throw them out? I'd rather chuck them if they are "iffy"

Thanks for any answers to this one.
