16  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: Australian Raw Lifestyle Magazine on: Tuesday 22 January, 2008
Hey Erth,

the website of the person I mentioned (Anna) is www.purelydelicious.net and her contact details are on the site. I believe she has at least a couple of kids and also does the magazine.

I guess it's too early to say congratulations?? But I'm saying it anyway. All the best with the family and the magazine venture!

Erthmum,

this sounds like a wonderful idea!

When I saw the title of the thread, I went 'wow! there's a raw food mag and I didn't even know about it' and clicked on the link to see where I could get it.

I would love to see this happen! And I'd be happy to contribute articles as well. I used to write for Vegan Voice years back and recently had an article in Aduki, a Melbourne based vegan mag. I've also recently been asked to do vegan food reviews for an upcoming Melbourne food guide, and would absolutely LOVE to find a place that had raw dishes to review!

I'd suggest asking Sienna (editor and publisher of Vegan Voice) for any tips on starting a mag, and also the editors/publishers of overseas raw mags for any hints and tips. Emily of Aduki might also be able to help out there, though she recently took the magazine online as she had so much work with distribution and advertising revenue generation etc. Both Sienna and Emily are ABSOLUTELY lovely people!

I can't remember the name of the magazine, but there's a stay at home mother who publishes a raw mag on another forum I visit, I could get her contact details for you to chat to.

What an exciting idea! I'm guessing it won't be easy going, but I'm sure there would be a small core of dedicated people willing to help you get it off the ground!

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!! And keep everyone updated!
18  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Kombucha culture in Melbourne? on: Sunday 16 December, 2007

Hi everyone,

my housemate cleaned out the fridge and chucked my kombucha culture out!

Admittedly it does look like something gone wrong in a bottle, but now I'm left with no precious culture!

Is anyone here from Melbourne, and if so, do they have any kombucha culture they could share with me?

At my mum's request (I love her dearly!) we are having a raw vegan christmas and I wanted to introduce her to the delights of a kombucha lemon ginger *tail.

So if anyone has any, or knows anyone who does, can they let me know? I originally got it from someone at a one of the raw food gatherings we have up here.

Cheers and thanks!
19  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: Alternative to plastic trays and mesh in excalibur dehydrators on: Sunday 11 March, 2007

Hi Eve,

I use baking paper in my round tray dehydrator, I find this does the trick really well. I can get crackers and things like semi dried tomatoes off easily and use the paper a number of times before throwing it out. Just make sure the paper is BAKING paper and not wax paper. I mistakenly used wax paper once and all the food stuck to it!

Don't know if this would help with the IBS though, but it's worth a try. Dehydrated foods are fine, but it is possible to overdose on them, so maybe going without for a while to see if there is any improvement might be a help?

cheers.

20  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: info from melbourne vegetarian/vegan night 4/3/07 on: Saturday 10 March, 2007

Hey guys,

I'm one of the organisers of the Melbourne raw gatherings, we meet up roughly once a month, and I've just emailed one of the other organisers regarding the next gathering date. I'll post it as soon as it's figured out!

There is HEAPS of enthusiasm here in Melbourne for raw food, it's great to see. I'm certain we can build up the networks and hold regular (perhaps even major) events down here, despite the less than encouraging weather in the colder months!

And if any raw Melbournites would like to share their raw skills and hold a demonstration, please let us know. I think sharing of raw information is a VERY important factor in strengthening the raw community.

And I got some kombucha culture! How's that for a score! People often bring stuff along to share (besides food). Next time I'm going to photocopy an article I've found that shows how to make a solar dehydrator... really easily!

cheers everyone!

21  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Recipes - Meals & Snacks / Re: Brownies!!!! on: Saturday 10 March, 2007

Ha ha!

I just came in to the recipe bit to post this recipe!

Should have guessed someone would have beaten me to it!

I love this recipe, so simple and delicious! I've given this to mothers of kids in my son's grade and they love it. It's a great way to get some omega three into kids too.

I cover these in dessicated coconut as a topping, press it down and keep the tray in the freezer.

I'm thinking of using this recipe as one of the recipes I'll demo at the Coop I work for, along with nut milks etc.

He he!

Hello Rawduchess!

I think I met you at the Irene Raw Gathering?? So lovely to talk to everyone, so much enthusiasm! And 16 people turned up, with lots of new faces!

It's actually at IRENE Community Arts Centre, not at someone called Irene's house, but everyone gets that mixed up!

We hold them usually monthly, there's been a bit of a break between the last one last year, and the first one this year, but the momentum has certainly kept up and another one is being planned, thanks so much to everyone who came!

Yes, there seems to be quite a few rawbies in Melbourne, I'd love to make a big effort and unite us all into some kind of loose network to meet socially and maybe even organise some larger events.

I'm so glad we have the gatherings, it can be so hard to be isolated and have no one understand your food choices. I'm vegan, but at least there are heaps of other vegans out there, and many restaurants now cater to vegans. But the raw revolution has yet to kick off for real here in Aust. I'm hoping our raw gatherings will help kick start it.

Cheers everyone!

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum, but I saw this thread and had to answer.

Invita at the Victoria Market in Melbourne now regularly serves a raw cake (the type varies from day to day) and is very open to more raw food. I've tried their cakes and some of them are delicious.

Apparently you can call up and pre-order a raw lasagne a couple of days in advance and enjoy it there. Haven't done it yet, but am looking forward to eating out raw!

They do seem to use carob powder (which probably isn't the raw version) but I can forgive them for that! I think it's wonderful that ANY restaraunt is getting into the raw thing!

Also, the owner has told me he'd like to get people together for a raw banquet, I think we need about 20 people. We have raw gatherings down here (16 people at the last one) so I think it's a possibility.

If you are in Melbourne and would like to be on the gathering mailing list (and aren't already) then let me know and I'll pass your details on.

Cheers!
