2  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Recipes - Drinks / Re: Almond Milk made me sick!!! Why??? on: Tuesday 19 August, 2008
i'd be very careful with the almonds you choose. i bought some from mrs flannerys that seemed ok but were a good price and i'm quite sure they were rancid after straining it into a bowl because the liquid looked different to usual very oily and just different.from now on i'm only going with really good fresh organic almonds. i don't have a nut milk bag either so i use a teatowel and it works well.

good point fbi. i wonder about really small insects that eat only greens? maybe greens and soil bacteria provide enough for them because they're so small?
4  Locally RAW / Australia & New Zealand / Re: Australia Raw Food and Raw Friendly Restaurants - please share on: Wednesday 06 August, 2008
well now it seems that there's spoil me raw at miami. the magic apple on the gold coast highway right next to burleigh heads mcdonalds has some raw salads, a raw fruit salad and juices. i really wish people were more educated in the hospitality industry on things like veganism.

the other night i had a cooked dinner, some teppanyaki and they cooked my tofu on the hot plate right where some chicken had just been and i asked them to do it again and i felt a bit bad but i thought at least i've educated them. i mean is it seriously not obvious that you wouldn't want your tofu and veges mixed with chicken fat!?!?!? shrug some people i've talked to honestly haven't heard of the concept of vegetarianism let alone veganism. i was at dinner and a chinese girl was telling me when she was younger she didn't even realize that there were people who didn't eat meat.

it would be nice if fancy hotels and all those chefs like jamie oliver ect learnt about raw cuisine and added it to their repertoire so major cities and restaurants all had raw vegan food options. not that you can't go to a fruit store but since the raw movement is growing it would be nice to be able to eat out with friends and get decent salads ect.

The Orignial Question

KK.. on your original question.. "does any one monitor their B12 levels?" I do.. with MMA and TcHy tests every couple of years.. I'm borderline, and this has not improved over the years on raw (it hasn't gotten very much worse either), so now I take a supplement. But I should say, I'm 48, and we all know that B12 absorption diminishes with age. With Vitamin D, you just have to brave the cold.. get out in the sun.. you only need 10 or 15 minutes and your vit. D is good for the day.

even in winter when the sun is out in the middle of the day the cold is bearable on the gold coast. sorry that's probably not much help for you though. i couldn't live in an extremely cold environment

8  FAQ - Check Here for the most common Answers! / Raw Food FAQ / Re: Can raw foods be frozen? on: Tuesday 05 August, 2008
personally myself i wouldn't freeze raw soups, nuts i'm not sure, hummus i wouldn't but almond milk you can i think because in raw food real world i remember reading about places selling frozen nut milks. i freeze fruit for smoothies often but i wouldn't thaw it and use it like it was fresh. anything with high water content will usually burst eg greens. i'm sure somebody will be able to answer your questions more fully soon. as a rule of thumb though fresh is best, freezing can somewhat deactivate enzymes.
9  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / water.......what do you drink? on: Tuesday 05 August, 2008
lately i've been asking myself alot of questions about water. i've heard various things like botted water,
something about the droplets or someting or other being to large to be absorbed properly by the body
so ionised water is better. some days i can just keep drinking water and my mouth still feels dry but i'm not sure
if i'm really thirsty or not. i'm not sure if its a water thing but sometimes on those days i get can get really bloated and
i'm yet to make a connection to a possible cause. i'm not sure if i'm going through a detox when it happens or what but sometimes it seems like drinking water unnecessarily causes it. i'm also curious, what do you all drink? bottled water, tap, filtered, fresh from the creek shrug

11  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Off Topic Chat / Re: Did anyone see raw food wife swap this afternoon? on: Saturday 26 July, 2008
i've seen one about a year and a bit ago. i think there's been two. one with a vegan raw foodist and a raw meat eater. i saw the vegan one. she ended up eating cooked food again which is a shame i thought. they really try to present them in a negative way. the other wife tried to make the vegan daughter who was raised a vegan, choose a piece of meat for a bbq. i thought it was really thoughtless of her. anyway the only way to be normal on tv is abnormal i think, i wouldn't want to be average burger eating american joe.
12  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: Calcium! on: Saturday 26 July, 2008
i may be wrong so somebody please correct me if i am but other minerals like magnesium and silica i think, are important for strong bones if not more important than calcium? david wolfe spoke about excess calcium in the diet being bad. rawconnection, are the calcium tablets you're taking organic calcium? i'm not big on supplements if they because i've heard they're not the kind of mineral that is really absorbed by the body in most supplements.

14  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Recipes - Meals & Snacks / Re: What do you use your dehydrator for? on: Sunday 13 July, 2008
google russell james raw chef and check out his Mediterranean almond bread. great for sandwiches! you could try a sweet one using maybe apple and banana instead of the zucchini and tomatoes in that recipe. just add some nut butter and blended berries and agave and you've got a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. its a good way to get rid of left over almond pulp from almond milk.
