"Eat a minimum of 2% of your diet as animal foods, preferably every day for maximum effect. Vegans who have not replenished their stores of animal fats and proteins have often slowly gotten into trouble, sometimes first showing as bad moods and depression, sometimes as dry scalp & hair, sometimes loose teeth & receding gum-line. Serious lack of B12 has caused brain damage, pain and paralysis, so be careful. (Supplements are a must if you are a true vegan, e.g. vitamin B12, D and omega-3. But of course, Natural Hygiene not in favour of supplements - they can never mimic the real thing. A truly adequate diet is better.)" i've got to say i think these studies are all a bit dodgy. all raw diets are different and not all of them are good but so many vegan foods are full of omega 3 like flax, chia (the richest source of omega 3), nuts, seeds and oils. i can see where vitamin d is a problem if you don't get enough sun and there's alot of opinions about b12. every-time i see one of these articles talking about deficiencies and ill of raw food i think of all the raw vegan athletes who have good muscle tone, have improved their b12 status on a raw vegan diet, people who've cured all sorts of ailments with raw food and so on. i fail to see how good quality plant food is deficient. i remember reading about all the vitamins and minerals and deficiency symptoms and i've found the more raw food i add to my diet the fewer ailments i have.
wow that looks great. so does the presentation. pumpkin soup is an old favourite of mine. i noticed the recipe says to blanche the almonds. obviously not necessary but i wonder that the go is with that?
just over a bout of an upset tummy. so glad that was quick. i wonder does anybody know how to deal with an upset stomach from overeating or eating poor combinations or do you just have to wait it out? i was so tempted to have yoghurt because i've heard it's good for stuff like that but i didn't no if that would make it worse. glad i didn't. dam i was gonna go for a run too if it weren't for my stomach. that can wait till the morning. what does catmom put in her nori rolls neet? i love avocado, cucumber and greens but i'm thinking about expanding and adding sundried tomatoes, celery and maybe even beetroot. i've got this thing for beetroot. it's so great raw in salads.
i've often heard people talk about rancid fats with things like nuts and other fats so i wonder if anyone can answer some questions about it. like can you tell by taste or appearance if nuts are rancid and how long after buying them in the store do they keep? same for seeds. what are the implications of eating rancid fats? also how long do chia seeds last? i remember hearing they last quite a while and don't go rancid really for some reason. if not i've got some chia eating to do.
hmm not sure if they're raw now. i emailed spiral foods who do the one's i buy, quite a while ago, and they said they were raw but nothing abou vinegar. i read about umeboshi and traditionally they just use sea salt and shiso and they make ume plum vinegar from the liquid which is not an actual vinegar. these days they do sometimes use vinegar. i can always ask if they use vinegar. if i could get ume and just have them without salt that'd be even better. what happens when you do have them jen?
i don't mind a politics vent or any vent in my journal at all meta. i welcome anyone to stop in. true it's all about the masses and most people are probably thrilled with fluoridated water.
mmmm i just had a nori roll from my last sheet of raw nori. filled it with avo, lettuce, cukes, shiso and umeboshi. i wasn't liking seaweed for a while but now i don't seem to mind it again.
the certainly are determined to make things difficult for health orientated people like everyone on here. i'm really disappointed in Kevin. He seemed a little less backward than Johnny but it seems they all just suck. when will the greens get in?
i just had an awesome smoothie with strawberries, blueberries, raspberries maca and raw honey after coming home from the new bigger and better wray organic. i love food shopping. i got some umeboshi plums which i'll have with nori, avocado and lettuce. after having a bit more cooked food lately i'm now craving more raw food. especially salads.
where does one hunt for spring water? i think spring water is definitely better than tap water even if it's filtered. i was listening to an interview with david wolfe on we like it raw today and he only drinks spring water. i've been buying spring water for the last week. the only thing is plastic bottles aren't good either?
i love rosehip oil on my skin. some interesting stuff there neet. do you only use natural products for you makeup work? bit embarrassing being a guy but i used to use miessence's natural makeup when i had really bad acne to hide it and it was great.
thanks rgg. i've been making progress i think. i read an old health book from ages ago and i'm sticking to that quite well before i add more raw food. its a bit too much doing it all at once. so i'm having whole grain cereals from millet, steamed veges and that. i think i need them to transition and focus on other things. still eating salads and fruit as always. at the moment focusing on exercise everyday i think its really important to have fitness before i change into raw foods completely. i got up really early yesterday and did some stretching a run and some strength work. it kind of happened by a fluke. i went to bed really early on sunday after work at like five. woke up at like three in the morning and charged my ipod did some yoga went for a run ect. it was such a good start to the day so i'm going to bed early as every night and becoming a morning person again. its much easier to face the day after starting it positively.
i am also getting bulk spring water now for two reasons. 1 is that i realised i need to have quality water and two as of yesterday qld now has fluoridated tap water. mum told me that on the radio they were talking about it being a by-product of aluminum or something like that. so glad i won't be drinking it.
anyway such a nice day outside i'm off to the beach.
hey christian. i used proactive years ago when i was trying to get rid of acne. in the long run i ended up having huge lumpy blime pimples underneath my skin. it was really harsh and nasty stuff. miessence have a range of products that are really good. they have a natural gel you can put on overnight cleansers and moisturizers, some lotion which is really hydrating and a facial mask. i use clay masks which really help my skin much more than conventional products and they aren't so drying. maybe you could try something like that? also fruits like mango, grapefruit and papaya are really good to rub on your skin with the leftovers. good luck travis
