1  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Raw Pets / Re: Cats cannot taste sweet on: Sunday 21 October, 2007
Hi Freedom

Thanks for that. When I was an oats for breakfast person, I had to be careful to put my breakfast up high otherwise it would be devoured by my sneaky cats- who seemed to really have a thing for porridge!
2  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Fitness & Health / Re: Sore knees & cycling on: Saturday 20 October, 2007
I'm amazed at how sore my IT bands get. I have been getting this dull, sticking around pains down the outside of my knees. It seems to go from my hips to my knees. I have been massaging it- I'm not sure if its doing any good long term. Apart from not crossing my legs which I think aggravates it- is there any specific ITB stretches?
3  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: how safe is non-orgainc produce on: Sunday 14 October, 2007
If I was able to, I would definitely buy organic over non-organic, but I try to look at the overall picture and say to myself: "Non-organic fruit and veggies MUST be better than going back to eating meat, or having Macca's", blah, blah, blah.  It's what you can do with what you have.

I agree Rita, there is no point being broke & not being able to afford enough food for the day if you can onlu afford insufficient amounts of organic food. I agree that organic is better, but if you can't afford it, you just can't afford it. I heard that bananas & oranges & things which may be peeled/ are covered by a thick skin are a bit safer

Freedom- thats great- thanks so much for the link!
5  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Beauty / Re: ethical clothing on: Sunday 14 October, 2007
I have a very big ethical dilemma purchasing cotton because it is the worst product environmentally, especially if grown in Australia. But, if it is grown elsewhere, the amount of carbon that is used shipping negates any benefits of growing in suitable climates. Buying from op shops is great because it reduces the amount of virgin materials which are used.
What about trying local up & coming designers because they create all the clothign themselves..you would have to check where they purchase their material from though- I know in Brisbane in the Valley local designers are there on a Sunday. Is there something similar near where you live?

Thanks Emi- do you use when your skin is dry?
An absolutely fantastic face and body exfolient is Fine Himalayan Salt mixed with jojoba oil.
Would this work with table salt Organic Mama?
And toranchanau- yes the coconut oil smells delicious & I want to eat it!!

Ok, so I invested in some coconut oil and have used some kiwi fruit, and I did like their impacts- but what is a good natural exfoliant? I have a disgusting amount of bulging pores on my chin and on my nose.

FROOOOOOOOOOOOT ROCKS!!!!
Ha ha Rawgreen goddess- that will have to be my new signature me thinks!!! Thanks Dani for clearing that up for me, I thought it was probably one of those beliefs with no substance!
Dani- that sounds so good!

Well I just had a bewtiful punnet of strawberries for breaky- I think the best way to eat strawbs is to have them whole- I love the process of eating the little green bits off- feels like I am being a bit romantic! Tongue with myself!
Have a wonderful dayxx

Thanks BB and Dani for stopping by- yes free fruit does seem a little bit sweeter!

Ok, my new motto now is Fake it till I make it- with confidence I mean, and just keep telling myself that I rock until I start to believe it!

So I had a really good day today- I didn't bother trying to explain my dietary habits to people who I knew wouldn't understand. And I also had a fantastic weekend- and felt so much better for it. Although I am very aware now of the importance of being organised when going out- there is barely ever any real food in cafes etc in touristy areas. Just craziness!

I had the yummiest smoothie on the weekend- 1/2 a rockmelon & a punnet of strawberries- mmm yumm
For breakfast this morning I had a beautiful juice- pineapple, orange, apple, carrot. It was soooo refreshing. And then mid morning I had a watermelon & strawberry smoothie. I Lurve Fruit! But as I was drinking the smoothie I noticed the cut up bits of watermelon seeds & I had a flashback to when I was little & somebody saying not to eat the seeds as they are poisonous... Can anyone clarify this, or debunk this preferably?!

Anyhoo- I'm now onto my third orange and think I might have another for dinner! Oh and another thing- altho I had always known it is better to feed my cats raw, I was always a bit lazy, giving them bikkies still. So since I have been raw- they have been too, and they haven't had any of the slip ups I've had. And, they have lost weight!!!

Very happy household (household is such a funny word when you think about it!)

Hello

Is the Byron Bay event the closest raw foods event to Brisbane, or is something happening in Brisbane too?
14  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Fitness & Health / Re: I'm running!!! on: Monday 01 October, 2007
Hi Jen,
Huge congrats on running & so consistently  and increasing as well!! Just thought I would mention that if you are still experiencing a sore upper back/ neck- it may be that you are hunching over, or up, or moving your upper body too much when you run. In that case, you might want to think about doing some core strenghtening exercises- strengthening your deep abs & maybe your lats. I'm saying this, because its what I experienced- the larger muscles were picking up the slack for the weaker ones & hence a lot of inbalance & pain..
I know some pilates exercises are helping me, as well as being conscious of where my shoulder blades are & specific back-lat- notsurewhichmuscle- exercises.

Just a thought... happy running!

Hi Kylie

Just wanted to say hello- I'm new here too. Don't worry if you keep falling off the "raw wagon", you are making a positive change in your life, you may have to take it slowly to break all the addictions of the past. Even if you just increase the amount of raw in your diet a small amount-  you are making huge positive changes.

I know what you mean about when you go home- I am presuming to your parents farm? Whenever I used to- it was like an eating contest, I would shovel as much food in as possible. I know it was to suppress emotions- just not sure what they were though..

Anyway- keep posting!
