Yes, timely! Tonight here in Chch we have a raw vegan potluck dinner, and you're welcome to come. I've done some of the organising for it, and I've also arranged some car pooling to it (it's at an organic veganic farm 25min drive from the centre of the city), so if you want to be there, let me know asap... I'll check for a message from you before I leave to go to it (I'll leave at about 4.45pm local NZ time).
Christchurch (New Zealand) potlucks this Sunday 2 Nov, Saturday 8 Nov, Saturday 22 Nov.
--------------------------------
2 Nov: This Sunday at 1pm there'll be a RV potluck picnic lunch in the botanical gardens. (The weather is forecast to be good.)
8 Nov: Saturday night, in Chch city, at the Refugee & Migrant Centre, a raw potluck dinner.
22 Nov: Saturday night, at Vanya's organic veganic farm, a raw potluck dinner.
--------------------------------
We have some good raw & health related documentaries on DVD that we plan to show soon, probably at one of our upcoming dinner events.
If you have suggestions for events for us to do as a group, let me know. I'm keen to do a "weed walk" - a wild edible tour, to learn about wild greens in our city and nearby. Wild edibles ("weeds") are generally more nutritious and sustainable and much fresher than most or all commercially grown greens. Someone else has suggest an edible seaweed walk/tour/workshop. Let me know about other ideas. Our group is as good as our contributions to it, so if you contribute, you yourself and others will get more out of it. All ideas and/or help is appreciated.
--------------------------------
You're welcome to bring interested friends & family, just bring enough food to share that's raw and vegan.
Simple food is fine, no need for an extravagant gourmet 7 course meal. Examples of some simple food are finger food, salad, sprouts, raw dessert, fruit salad, and whole fruit (bring a knife if the fruit needs it).
It's fine if you're not 100% or even 50% raw vegan. Just being interested in the lifestyle and keen to share and find out more is wonderful. The purpose of this group is to provide support for anyone exploring this way of eating, and to share ideas, resources and food with each other! It's a relaxed, social thing, nothing formal.
--------------------------------
Contact me if you want more info. (I'll give you my cell number if you want to contact me / find us in the gardens this Sunday.)
I can add you to our informal Chch RV email list if you want to be informed by email about our events. I may not always post on this site.
wonderful... is there a growing number of raw-foodies in NZ or still bit to cold...?
wish you a good potluck,
Kia Ora...
Kia Ora, No-Frontiers
There is a growing number of raw-foodies that I know about in NZ. Here in Chch (where I'm based at the moment) our local raw vegan group has grown in member number. I'm sure that here in NZ (and elsewhere in the world) there are more individuals now that know about or try a raw food / RV "diet" (lifestyle) compared to 10 years ago - which is when I first learnt about it and started living it.
It may be easier in a warmer/hot environment to eat a high RV / high raw fruit diet, but I and some others I know have managed successfully even through our winter. (NB: here in NZ there's a range of climate; from cool-temperate to warm-temperate (mostly from south to north respectively). Knowing about & sourcing & eating foods are warming rather than cooling helps, as does exercising (warming yourself up) when you're cold, I reckon.
Do you or other readers have experience of a high-RV diet in a cold climate? What are your suggestions?
Christchurch (New Zealand) raw vegan potluck dinner, Sat 18 Oct
Hey everyone
I hope you're well, and doing well.
We've had some good potluck events since our first potluck in June, here in Christchurch (NZ).
Our next raw potluck gathering is this coming weekend, Saturday 18 October, 6pm, at Vanya's organic farm (Wyenova) (Waterholes Road). It's just south of Templeton, and is only 20 minutes drive from Riccarton. (I can email you a map showing how to get there.)
Bring some raw vegan food suitable for sharing - finger food, salad, raw dessert, fruit, anything that you enjoy making and sharing with others, as long as it is raw and vegan. Something simple is fine; there's no need for a gourmet dish.

You're welcome to bring interested partners, family members, or friends.
After dinner we may watch a raw-related DVD. Bring along a suitable DVD, if you have one and think we might like it.
We look forward to seeing you there,
Contact me if you want to share a ride with someone.
RSVP to me (send me a "Personal Message") if you want to attend this event, or if you want to be informed about future events.

I would like to contact anyone in NZ especially in Auckland who is into raw food.
Hello Kat :-)
I'm here in NZ. I've usually been living in the South Island, but I'm in Auckland sometimes.
(Yes, I realise your post was 14 months ago now...)
Also, I want to shout out: I'm also interested in communicating with NZ'ers who eat raw/living foods. I'm keen to learn more about where/how you obtain your raw/living food. At the moment I'm buying certified organic produce, sprouting myself cert org legumes & nuts/seeds, and growing a small amount of greens & herbs. I'm keen to learn more about the local wild greens & flowers, so I can know which are safe to eat (but I realise that that "safe to eat" depends on the quantity eaten).
