Thanks for the info Jungle! I haven't looked at any raw gourmet stuff yet, I'm waiting for pay day as $$$ are tight right now.

Day: 8

The horrid bloat continues unabated and now I have thrush to boot. I am not a happy camper right now and I'm really tired too. I'm really struggling today!  detox
2  Go RAW! The Testimonial Section! / RAW Journals - Your RAW Experiences / Re: Sulis' Raw Challenge on: Tuesday 08 January, 2008
I eat more than what I post here just too lazy to record it all and the salads are quite big but I think I'm eating too much fruit!

Day 7: I feel awful, so bloated and sore and I think it's the fruit, breakfast this morning was a mango, an orange and a handful of spinach blended. I had a piece of toast at morning tea to bind me a up a bit, I've been running to loo a lot and this morning it was green, talk about Shrek-like!  detox

I'm going back to Bircher muesli for brekky tomorrow.

Had a plain salad for lunch and a couple of bits of roast spud, snacks today were celery & carrot sticks with hommus and I'm still bloated so I took an inner health plus capsule to see if that brings some balance back.

I have no idea what to eat for dinner and I really don't feel like any food right now plus I'm getting a bit sick of salad. huh Too sore and tired to drag my bum off to the gym tonight so I'm going to slack off in front of the tv.

*sigh* here's hoping tomorrow is better.

much better now thanks!

Day 6:

1st day back at work.

Started off with a green smoothie: baby spinach, frozen banana, 2 kiwi fruits and some water, quite tasty and filling but by morning tea I was peckish so I had an apple.

Everyone commented on how thin my face looked! must be shedding fluid as my clothes are still tight on me. I haven't really noticed changes in my face yet.

Lunch was a big bowl of tomato/mango salsa with some wheat & gluten free crackers.
Snack: 1 large banana. I saved that until the dreaded 3pm munchies hit, but 30 minutes after eating it I was hungry again, so I've had some cheese before heading off to the gym.
Fluids: Herbal tea, 2 litres filter water.

There was a huge pile of chocolate in the kitchenette at work, man was I eyeballing it for a while but I walked away. First time ever I've walked away from chocolate. I am hanging for payday so I can get some raw cacao & butter to make raw choccy, looking forward to that!

Dinner tonight will be a big bowl of salad and maybe some fish depending on how hungry I am after spin class. Lets see how I pull up after spin tonight!

Tallyho!

I'm really intrigued with Chia now after reading all the posts in this thread. I can't wait to try some in a smoothie!

Hi Jungle and welcome!

I'm new too and have been about 90% raw for the last few days, so far so good.

Congrats on your new bub and going raw!

Cheers!

I'm taking your advice Raw Sensation and not trying to overdo it, so no exercise today. I did swim yesterday but that was just mucking around at the beach so it doesn't count. laugh

Hi Jungle! I haven't tried the smoothie yet, tomorrow morning I think, after gym. I'm keen to see if it gets me through to lunch without the cravings.

Day 5:

Better than yesterday! I went to the beach with friends as it was sooo hot and we had fish 'n chips  Sad biiiig mistake I felt horrible afterwards and had to take some swedish bitters. Had a nasty case of the runs this morning too.

I did the fruit until midday thing although I find that after 30 minutes I get really hungry again.
Lunch: Big mixed salad
Snack: couple of gluten/wheat free crsipbreads with nut butter
Fluids: 1 1/2 litres filter water.

I'm feeling a bit light-headed and tired today so I'm taking it easy. Just lying around watching tv and drinking lots of water. I don't want to think about going back to work tomorrow, ugh!
7  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: to salt or not to salt? on: Saturday 05 January, 2008
I use couldn't go without salt, I use it sparingly though and not in every dish. It's really a matter of taste and I prefer salt on certain foods. I use Himalayan and celtic sea salt, nothing beats sea salt and cracked pepper on fresh avocado.  smiley

ok, I'll try the fruit only 'til midday approach and I love smoothies, still trying to get used to the idea of putting greens in a fruit smoothie, but I'll do that for brekky tomorrow. I don't have a big blender at the moment only a stick blender, hope it can handle spinach!

As I go back to work on Monday I'm going to make sure I'm prepared beforehand so I'll be getting up early to got to the gym, so no excuses for not preparing a salad to take for lunch.

Luckily for me there's a big fruit 'n veg place just across the road from work so I can pop over anytime for a top up, I am determined to stick to raw!

Cheers!

Day 3.

Woke up without the headache, yay! but still really sore in the legs from pump class. I struggled a bit today, for a change I was craving savoury rather than sweet, some celery with hommus took care of that but I ended up eating some cheese. The good news is I haven't had anything cooked today and I'm not missing it! I feel lighter and my bloat has gone but I have some gout twinges in my hands and right foot. It's been a while since the gout raised it;s ugly head and I used to be really prone to it a few years back so I'm not sure why it's come back. Maybe it's part of the whole detox thing?

I was a bit slack with the diet today:

Breakfast: 1 bowl of Bircher muesli
Lunch: 6 gluten free corn crisps with half an avocado, cherries and celery
Snack: 1 small banana
Dinner: Handful of organic cornchips, 2 cheese slices, celery sticks with hommus

I didn't have any salad today (naughty!) but I've just re-stocked the fridge so no excuses tomorrow.
I think desert with be a mixed berry smoothie and some strawberries, yum!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!

I'm onto day 2, didn't sleep well last night though as my body temperature was up, has anyone else experienced this while starting out raw?
11  Go RAW! The Testimonial Section! / RAW Journals - Your RAW Experiences / Re: Sulis' Raw Challenge on: Thursday 03 January, 2008
Day 2:

Woke up feeling a bit blah this morning, did not sleep well at all last night as my body temperature was up and I tossed and turned like a rotisserie chook all night long. I'm really sore from the pump class but I expected that. I'm going to try the Bootcamp class tonight. There's no point beating about the bush it's time to jump right and get my fitness level back up.

I made some Bircher muesli and loved it, I think Bircher will be my new fave brekky treat, I am sooo sick of toast!
The other thing I noticed was that I was really gassy last night and feeling bloated but that's gone this morning, previously I had tested negative for wheat intolerance but when I cut it out of my diet I always feel lighter and not bloated so wheat's off the menu. permanently.

Breakfast: I bowl Bircher muesli
Snack: celery sticks with hommus
Lunch: salad with avocado, red capsicum, carrots, lettuce, pumpkin seeds, cucumber and flaxseed oil
Snack: cherries & a nectarine
Snack: 2 slices of wheat, gluten & yeast free bread
Fluids: 2 1/2 litres of filter water

Turns out there was no bootcamp class tonight so I did 45 minutes of solid cardio instead, I have a headache and am still gassy, guess my body is adjusting to the new sugar free me and that's probably why I've got the headache, no daily dose of sugar!

I'm not really hungry after my workout so I'll have some fruit later on if I feel peckish.
I think day 3 is going to be the toughest, just a feeling I've got.

Thanks guys!  so far I'm really enjoying the recipe section and there's heaps of info so I'm confident I can do this. Can't wait to try some cacao powder and Agave nectar, I just have to try some of those raw choccy recipes. smiley

I've survived day 1 and feel good, I have the sugar craving though so I'm off to whip up a banana smoothie.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! as predicted the after dinner sweet tooth has kicked in so I might go for the smoothie option, I've got a banana in the freezer but unfortunately I don't have any Agave nectar or cacao powder (yet!)  so I'll put some maple syrup in it and I've got some fresh coconut as well.

I love the idea of green smoothies so I can see I'm going to have to get a decent blender, my current one won't be able to hack the pace, LOL!

I survived the pump class and foot is ok so far.
14  Go RAW! The Testimonial Section! / RAW Journals - Your RAW Experiences / Sulis' Raw Challenge on: Wednesday 02 January, 2008
After reading Shazzie's site on and off for about a year and being intrigued about raw fooding, I'm giving the 10 day raw challenge a go. This is a huge step for me, a total sugar and white carb addict but it's time for some changes.
I've already given myself a mental makeover now it my body's turn and despite dropping a 15 kilo weight on my foot at the gym last week, I'm raring to go so I'll be doing a Pump class tonight. I'm aiming for 75% raw during the challenge.

Starting weight:  (will weigh myself at the gym tonight as I don't own scales) update: I weigh 84 kilos, yikes!
Measurments:    Bust: 110cm (without bra on)
                        Waist: 94cm
                        Hips:   108cm
                        L upper thigh: 63cm
                        R upper thigh: 64cm
                        L upper arm: 31cm
                        R upper arm: 32cm

Day 1: Lunch: mango & tomato salsa (yum!) 1 small bowl of cherries
Dinner: Large salad with peptitas (soaked) 4 greek lamb meatballs (the only cooked thing I've had all day)
Snack:4 slices of gluten free corn crispbread and fresh hommus
Desert: Banana & cocont smoothie made with rice milk
Fluids: 2 litres of filtered water
          Exercise: 1 hour pump class

I really enjoyed the salsa, will probably go a big salad tonight, the big test will be after dinner as I am always looking something sweet at that time.
I'm missing the diet softdrink but too bad, they're full of crap anyway so water it will be from now on. That and herbal teas and my black chai which I adore.

Breakfast tomorrow will be Bircher muesli which I'm soaking right now. I'm determined to get some discipline and stop giving in to my cravings all the time, I have to break this sugar addiction.

Hi everyone! I've just started the 10 day raw challenge and thought I'd introduce myself, I'm Sulis, I'm 43 years old and instead of doing the usual NYE resolution diet I'd give raw a try.

I became intrigued by the idea of going raw about a year ago when I came across Shazzie's site and was inpsired by some of the transformations I read about there. I don't have any major health problems, just overweight from years of fad and yo-yo dieting and what used to be mild patches of psoriasis is now becoming major. I'm a big sweet tooth and addicted to carbs (the white processed kind) I often wonder if I can ever overcome those cravings, guess I'll know in 10 days time!

Cheers!

Sulis.  smiley
