31  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: Edible Wild Foods in Australia on: Thursday 21 September, 2006
My dad and i went for a bushwalk today .... we havent walked like that in years
i walked beside him .....listening, he always has so many stories to tell ... we would stop by a shrub and examine the leaves, or marvel at a flower.... flowers like little purple tipped trumpets all lined up together
my dad always picks sweet looking flowers and tastes them for their nectar, he's always been in the habbit of tasting wild plants... taking little nibbles of things along the way .... and always offers me one too!
it was a special day

From childhood Ive always been in the habit of eating apples and pears whole ... core and all ..right up to the stem (which i would then proceed to clean my teeth with)
My grandmother use to say i would grow trees from my ears .....
this hasnt happened (yet) Smiley

Im reading a fascinating book called 'A philosophy of Healing' by Judy Jacka .. just read a chapter on Rudolf Steiner and his philosophy, thought id share this relevant snippet ….

"Steiner was particularly concerned with the effect of planetary cycles in plant growth, and many experiments were undertaken to show the effect of different phases of the moon on plant growth. For example, it was found by repeated experiements that quick growth and healthier plants are obtained by sowing a few days before the full moon. Carrots, tomatoes and many grains such as wheat, oats and barley were tested. A 25% increase of crops was obtained with cereals planted three days before the full moon. In the book “Agriculture of Tomorrow”, unfortunately now out of print, the Koliskos reported hundreds of painstaking experiments in which are described planetary factors on plant growth, and the effect of homoeopathic preparations on plant growth.”
WOW!!

... "No book on healing should leave untouched the subject of healing of the soil and plants, for our very life depends upon the balance in nature at this level."
Indeed. I dream of pottering about in a garden, or in a field one day .... I think I will have a worm farm, lots and lots of happy worms Smiley
.....sending happy vibes to everyones plants!!

alfalfa house is the best! I regularly volunteer, washing, restocking etc -  you get an extra 25% off your bill for every 2 hours of work you do. (10% if you're a co-op member) the people there are super friendly, and its a great way to know where your produce comes from. They have a pretty fast turn over so you know everything is fresh - the nuts are great!! Its best you bring you're own containers, although little bags and glass jars are available. Almost everything is sold by weight. refill your shampoo, soaps, oils .. even scoop your own coocnut oil, they have maca root, goji berries, seaweeds, all the grains, seeds + seeds for sprouting, nuts, dried fruits, jars and jars of dried herbs & flowers. And of course fresh fruit and veg - everything is organic!! Its only a tiny shop but they are planning to expand ... (this year was the first time they made a profit in 20 years - extrodinairy!! but a good sign that people are finally catching on to the goodness!)

It rocks all over Macro because its real! nothing is packaged in plastics .... back to basics = scoop your own food!

I also buy my fruit and veg from a local shop on regent st,redfern - run by a fiesty chinese lady .. she knows her greens!!  and although she is not organic, she has her own supply from local farmers -: her spinich looks closer to the organic spinich than any Coles bunch ive ever seen, and Ive sometimes pondered over the exhuberant prices of organics when Ive spotted identical fruit/or veg at her shop for a 1/3rd of the price!?! mmmm
- so Im usually pretty happy with the cheaper prices - and she always makes me a juice on my arrival too Smiley

40  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / Re: Iron + B12 on: Wednesday 06 September, 2006
when the doc says eat lentils, he probably means you can eat them sprouted too?! (or is that being too cheeky?!)
Ive stayed away from all beans on raw - but Ive eaten sprouted lentils, they are yummy in salads. Alfalfa, sunflower seeds and english spinich (popeye to the rescue!) come to mind that are high in iron. also best absorbed with vitamin C. big hugs to you miss g .....
