121  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Beauty / Re: Facial treatments on: Monday 07 July, 2008

niqi, you gave up on the jojoba and went back to coconut oil? Can I ask why? Maybe you could answer that in the other thread, so your jojoba is great to I stopped the jojoba is all in one place?

Yep - I'm a stubborn git and I am reading Elaine Hollingworth's book again; she swears by coconut oil, so I thought I'd experiment AGAIN and give it another try. It worked beautifully for a week (again) until I started to dry out (AGAIN). Some people never learn or like to experiment again and again just to make sure. A bit like tasting wine just to see if you get drunk or not.  uhuh uhuh uhuh !!!

So the merry-go-around. I stopped the coconut oil -- although I am still eating it --and went back to jojoba. Yes, jojoba is great. Yes, it is with great regret that I can't put coconut on my face. Yes, I am a silly git. Mea culpa!

I can't really give this a rational explanation. Coconut oil works for about a week on me and then I need to recover with jojoba. I think the experiment now will be how long I can work with jojoba before I get bored again! (My issue, not the delightful jojoba seed's!!!)  rofl

But as we are speaking of experimentation, I will say that the jojoba oil does work well as a cleanser too. I have gone over your posts again Melb to see how you explained it before and have been trying that; rub it in, massage with water, wash off with face cloth. It does take a lot of dirt off.

So begging your pardon for being inconsistent!

hugs and shrugs, Niqi

however there are big corporations who are hell bent on controlling our food source and they are in league with big pharma. that is a consipracy and it is pure evil.

monsanto is the tip of the ice-berg!

dusting off che t-shirt  Sad

Could not agree with you more. I once knew a wonderful woman who was a dairy farmer (I know, I know, but she was  producing biodynamically) and she had some true horror stories about monsanto. The minds boggles.

Just to really wig out on conspiracy theories; Jen your point is a good one -
How close is this Codex to the marketing of these foods? Who is in who's pocket?

 kookoo bomb

Well this one makes me gibber, it's from www.celiac.com (just to get the citation correct)
and says that this Codex Alimentarus has been experimenting on 'thousands, maybe millions' (How's that for scientific evidence-based statistics???) of people to ADD an ACCEPTABLE amount of gluten into food products THAT COELIACS ARE SUPPOSED TO TOLERATE???

FOR HOW LONG?Huh Coeliacs and Non-Coeliac gluten intolerant people (LIKE ME!!!!) BUILD UP to gluten intolerance!!! IT doesn't have to kick in the moment you eat it! It took me years to build up to a level of allergic reaction, although the signs where there in lesser manifestations!
How much of this 'tolerable' gluten am I going to have to eat before I someone is going to sell me predinosolone again because I'm not legally allowed to grow my own veggies?

I don't like conspiracy theories, but this one is a worry! *dusting off my Che t-shirt!*

from: http://www.celiac.com/articles/205/1/What-is-the-Codex-Alimentarius-Commission---Is-Codex-Wheat-Starch-Safe-for-the-Gluten-Free-DietCeliac-Disease/Page1.html
"Q: Why would people with celiac disease want to eat Codex wheat starch?
A: Most people who have tried products made with Codex wheat starch feel that they are far superior to gluten-free products that do not contain the ingredient.

Celiac.com 06/25/2000 - The Codex Alimentarius Commission was created by the World Health Organization and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. It currently provides the only international gluten-free food standard for manufacturers. Its members include the Unites States and Canada in North America, and most European, Latin American, African and Asian countries. It is worth noting that European countries which currently conduct the most cutting-edge research on celiac disease in the world, namely Finland, Norway, Italy, Sweden and the UK, are also members of the Codex, and they currently accept the Codex standard for gluten-free foods that specifies a limit of 500 parts per million (ppm) of gluten in foods. This incredibly low level of gluten is considered safe by the Codex for people with celiac disease, as our products that contain specially made wheat starch with levels of gluten under this amount. Most manufacturers of gluten-free food use wheat starch that falls below 200 ppm, rather than the higher accepted limit of 500 ppm, and the current Codex gluten-free standard is in the process of being revised to the 200 ppm level.

The acceptance of the Codex wheat starch by most European countries is based on years of research and the follow up care of hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of people with celiac disease, whose doctors found that they recovered fine while eating it. There is currently much clinical research being done in Europe on the safety of Codex wheat starch, the results of which have further reinforced the concept that Codex wheat starch is safe for people with celiac disease. Most people with celiac disease (excluding extremely sensitive individuals and people with wheat allergy) should be able to eat Codex wheat starch without any damage or problems associated with the disease. .'Dr. Wheatgrass' ...its a spray and has a very pure extract of wheatgrass antioxidants and have been using it on my face and problem areas...its so amazing..like nutrition for the skin and i mean real nutrition.

What is this like on dry skin? I am having dry-up problems using coconut oil; I don't want to go back to anything that's not pure and/or raw and hate the drying up of my skin.

Thanks for your feedback!

Cheers, Niqi

Thanks RGG!

I think what strikes me the most is that even if what I had (it cleared up in 2 days. Usually took me 7+ days to get rid of a cold) was bacterial (PLUS toxic; bacteria that make us ill MUST be pretty toxic!LOLOL!), my body just seemed to cope better than ever before.

It feels as though all the GS's, the veggies, even sporadic high fruit moments (I recently read 80.10.10 diet and tried to combine some of the principles into my eating), built a solid health foundation within that the toxicity and bacteria couldn't grind down; I'm sure that before my body was so exhausted by dead foods, grains and lactose I had no reserves left to cope when toxic germs did attack.

It's pretty amazing!

It's also a pity that the medical industry can't promote this adequately enough to actually make a difference to general humanity's health. Oh no, I forgot; then the pharma companies couldn't make any money. evil
The farmers could, though.

*damn! changing the world again!!!*

 yahh yahh yahh

thanks!

Thanks Pinky - I am finding it pretty out of my 'standard' experience, since I'm used to getting the 'normal' 5-6 colds per year.

Looking forward to going cold free!!

Hi everyone - I just want to share my experience with the common cold and wonder if anyone else has had a similiar thing happen to them?

Before even transitioning to raw, whenever I would have a cold (NOT virus, bacterial in origin) I would phlegm up beyond belief, cough, sore throat, sometimes fever, and at least a day in bed (resulting in OTC medication, self-medication, panadol, tissues, I'm sure you know the drill.) The headache, the sore muscles etc etc etc... poor me!

Well, my and my two daughters  have all just had a cold, and none of us down for the count. I had a scratch in my throat, a bit of a runny nose and NO down time needed! No panadol, no aches, nothing. I didn't even really lose appetite, just kept on eating greens & fruits.

Is this what happens when gone raw?
Has anyone else had anything like this happen to them?
This has never happened to me before.
it's amazing!  yahh

BEst cheers, Niqi

Hi RC - I don't mean to be a pain, but is there something that triggers your craving for chocolate? Would it be a possibility to see someone and talk this out?

Can you associate any emotion that makes you crave chocolate?  shrug

It might be worthwhile a bit of a think.

Lots of hugs,
Niqi

Niqi, coconut oil as a cleanser?  Interesting.  Do you remove it with a facecloth or something?  Do you use a soap as well?

Very interesting what this does to the skin! I rub in on, massage it in and take it off with a warm, damp washcloth. No soap - my skin and soap do not get along - my skin is serving soap divorce papers ... LOLOLOL!!!

Afterwards my skin feels soft but not oily, so I think the washcloth works as a GENTLE exfoliator. I slop on jojoba oil afterwards as moisturizer. Coconut oil as mosturizer doesn't work for me, it dries my skin out, but the jojoba is a little goldmine - it's better than anything I've ever used before. I use it on both my daughters as well, who both have very sensitive, reactive skin.

I also have begun using the coconut oil instead of soap on my body, with the washcloth. I find this has dried all the cracks on my heels and elbows.

I found it really surprising how much dirt this cleanser takes off. It's actually better than the Clinique scruffing lotion (number 2??), and a lot less harsh on the skin in the long term.

Hope this helps!

all the best cheers, Niqi

My last post for today - don't worry, not taking over!!!  nope

A week ago or so I decided to try the coconut oil as a cleanser inspired by this thread/discussion and see what happened. I use jojoba oil as a moisturiser at night and don't even want to look back. It's amazing. But I never thought of using cocnut oil as a cleanser.

Well, I've got to report that my skin has NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER been so soft, clean and above all, FINE. The texture has gone from ok, to incredibly soft and lustrous. I massage the oil into my face, wash it off with a warm cloth, put some more on in the shower and let the steam do its magic then wash off again, followed by jojoba oil as moisturizer.

My goodness it's incredible! Not even my old $60 'deep moisturizing mask' made my skin feel like this. Am doing the same with all over body cleansing, using coconut oil as 'soap' and brushing off with a body mitt. I've NEVER had results this consistent.  yahh yahh yahh

Thank you Melb for this advice. I'm off to throw away the last of my old mass produced junk!

best cheers, Niqi
