541  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / RAW Chat / my scary kids... on: Sunday 09 April, 2006
i made a slaw for lunch today that i totally did not expect the boys to want anything to do with and they LOVE IT!!! i'm scared huh maybe it's just the lack of junk in the house... even Ry- mr. anti-anything-green- is eating it up! i am in shock... i mean, it is really good but my opinion about raw foods is usually a major contrast to theirs smiley
i am not complaining... just a tidge worried cheesy
(they're eating raw veggies!!! oh that's too cool....)

Miss G~ they may be entirely too little but if yr limited space-wise you could try sprouting in jars... that's what i plan on doing once we move- setting a bunch of jars on the kitchen windowsill and sprouting (and clamoring after the cats once the sprouts pop up! little devils... evil)

Joss is right about those "old timey" remedies often working. look at aspirin- it contains the same pain reliever found in willow (tree). people in the south (us) chewed willow twigs when they had pains, headaches, toothaches and such. my father and i are both salt water users when it comes to different mouth ailments. i give my kids spoonfuls of honey and lemon when they have itchy/sore throats &/or coughs. works great smiley

were they the ones with the dip included? we got those at the hfs i worked at just before i left. i made fun of the manager for getting them and this customer came up and said she agreed with me- they were ridiculous! that was the only time he got them in;)

my uncle dealt with skin lesions (well, still deals with...) from his days in vietnam w/the army. my lovely country is famous for putting it's children in harms way for the sake of "spreading democracy" (talk about a cancer! honestly, government isn't a disease. it is diseased by those who run it! okee, off my pedestal *jump*) apparently, agent orange wasn't a new way to get vitamin c into our soldiers! surprise! ugh...
Cee- i am sorry to hear about your *unhappy spots*. the sun can heal or hurt (i think it hurts us because of how much we've hurt the earth... not you but us humans... we muck up everything!) well, i feel like all my good intentions are being mucked as well... i'm an american- forgive me! i need a bumper sticker that says, "i'd rather be canadian" or something. at least until the next election!
anyway, are you seeing just conventional meds or naturopaths or a combo? what have they said? sorry about the personal ?s- when i hear something i don't know anything about i try to educate myself.
love and light as bright as bright!

ooo, does this include us non-Aussies? (is "aussie" okay or is that just something the us made up... lol. it is entirely too difficult being a conscientious american...lol)

'Neet~ makes sense about the heavy foods muddying the mind. i'll see if i can cut down- i know i can't cut them out altogether (at least not right now...) but cutting down shouldn't be a prob! really can't picture you cranky...

journal update....
i had some cinnamon jordan almonds for a snack yesterday along with the rest of my manna (i'm thinking about leaving it off the list for this week... concentrate on wraps and veg noodles and soups) my supper consisted of lemonade (AWESOME- making more today....) and carrot juice. i followed it with some chocolate pudding (almond butter, agave, cocoa, salt... out of cocoa so i can start grinding the cacao nibs i have and use that in its stead) today i've only had a few sips of water as i've been a bit busy (eldsest has been throwing up so i've been cleaning the floor a lot. he just asked me to slice up a mango for him so i hope he's feeling better.) planning a slaw for lunch today. hope to get the opportunity to make it shortly as i'm a bit hungry!

i am having trouble remembering things lately...
snack last evening was my carrot juice, supper was a soup that i could not finish (or make myself finish either...) very tasteless... probably because i was really wanting a cucumber or tomato soup and neither was in the one i made!
breakfast today was the water from a coconut- i love that stuff!!! it's waiting in the fridge for hubby to get the meat out. i just had "mashed potatoes" & broccoli for lunch. really good cheesy it's grocery day!!!! yayayayayay!!!!

what does your fam think of your rawness?
i'd never come between my boys and those bananas smiley unless there's only one left...

let's see... i cannot remember what my lunch was yesterday.... huh oh, zucchini & carrot noodles with a parsley/sd tomato sauce. delish! my afternoon snack was a think!organic bar. supper was boutenko's garden burger wrapped in cabbage leaves. i added spinach to the garden burger because it turned out very sweet. i had cinnamon-date manna w/almond butter on it for my dessert. a bit later i had my carrot juice.
today's breakfast was a water/mango/fr banana/sesame meal smoothie. the sesame gave it a nice nuttiness but i wish the banana had been more ripe. it was the last of the 3 bunches i bought last week! thankfully, grocery day is just around the corner... snack was manna and relish. lunch was a peeled, small cucumber dipped in leftover garden burger. the boys and i are talking about hitting another park today so i'll take a think! bar for my snack. maybe a baggie of almonds and raisins also to share with the boys.

i'm pretty tired today. also irritable. eldest has been driving me bonkers!!! he started the day with a pear and immediately afterward started in on one of his brothers.

ooo... park's out. well, looking forward to the end of today

Joss~
guess what fam got me for my b-day... a blender with a food processor attachment! nothing commercial but i can finally have my smoothies again cheesy  now, if my boys would just stop eating all the bananas... and i get to try pates and other yummo rawness. hurrah!!!
i cannot take credit for that awesome (and dangerous to any blender...) fudge. i found the recipe on www.greenchefs.tv. i am going to try and make a kindler, gentler version so i don't kill another unsuspecting appliance evil
554  PleasureTalk - The Discussion Area / Raw Pregnancy and Kids / Re: question from a lactator :-) on: Friday 07 April, 2006
Merridy~
this is my first raw bf smiley he was also my 1st vegan preg. i wanted to go raw during pregnancy but thought it might shock my system to have so many changes occuring at once (i realize now that i should have gone ahead!) there was a huge increase in my mobility and raw intake this preg, however!
i've never felt it necessary to go through any fasts that lasted more than a couple days. i have no reason currently (health, spiritual or otherwise) to fast but was curious if anyone else had any ill effects with it.
i absolutely love massage but don't treat myself enough (hubby rubs my back if i beg him, which is really annoying) i think all mothers should get massages (i got one before i left the hospital- it wasn't bad but you could tell the poor woman was tired...)
my older 2 were bf only about a month or so collectively, then both were form fed. #3 was solely bf (and is still nursing, happily! he is also the only person in the house who requests raw bell peppers for his post-supper "fruit" and circles me like a shark when i have an avocado in my hand *lol*) and Will is fat & happy on my milk (which has been raw minus manna for 4 days- YES!) i have noticed that his fussiness has really declined and that i tune into him more easily w/o cooked foods blocking my natural instincts (we practice natural infant hygiene with him). i'm looking forward to seeing what his food preferences are when he's older smiley
how many children do you have now? (and congrats on your wee one!) they grow so quickly...

Sheryl~
as soon as i can get an updated pic of this little walrus i'll send it! thanks cheesy
555  Go RAW! The Testimonial Section! / RAW Journals - Your RAW Experiences / Re: trying transitions on: Thursday 06 April, 2006
thanks for the b-day wish, R'g'N smiley  the itch has subsided slightly- mostly just my back now (sort of a crawly feeling... yuck...)
so, last night we had my b-day supper. the boys had spaghetti. Sam had a plum and Ian had an orange for their fruit. hubby and i enjoyed a variation on his awesome salad. i was a bit surprised because he did not have pasta along with the boys... the kicker is that he claimed to be full on the salad alone! Sam made me a beautiful *cake* out of legos cheesy Papa (hubby) put a plate of sliced banana on top of it and put b-day candles in the slices for me to blow out (got them all in 1 breath- the boys were duly impressed lol) everyone enjoyed my b-day banana slices. my dessert was a chocolate-banana pudding made with almond butter, cocoa, vanilla extract, a mashed banana, a dash of salt and some agave. a bit lumpy but perfectly delicious! the boys each brought me a present (one of their toys wrapped in a play cloth smiley) then Papa brought me my card and present. and my present??? wanna know?Huh
a blender with food processor attachment!!!   part of the reason we went in the red (not all, just part...) it isn't commercial or anything but the blender has a glass jar and the processor is a thick plastic w/s-blade so i will be able to make pates and such as long as i am careful... i was able to have an oj/banana/flax smoothie for breakfast today that was simply delicious/filling/invigorating! i'm a bit ashamed that i didn't share with the boys- who were looking forward to it almost as much as i. i'll be adding blueberries to our shopping list this week cool
my carrot juice hadn't thawed by the time i got in bed early this morning but i'll be able to enjoy it today! i told hubby i wasn't able to have any so he said how crappy it was that i was addicted to carrot juice now because of the price (we do not have a juicer so we get the juice from our natural foods store @ $5.50/quart.) he did the math and says, "oh, that's not bad- you drink $2.25-worth every day?" me- "yeah. it would be a lot cheaper if we had a juicer. then i could just juice it myself" him- "how would that be cheaper? we'd have to pay a lot for a good juicer + carrots..." i just sighed. he really doesn't understand how much we'd save! ugh, he's such a doof. whatever, i have a blender/food processor. i am going to have a blast!  and no more raw fudge!!! i've learned my lesson rolleyes
